Job Description

Under general supervision, the Tool Room Mechanic and Custodian is responsible for keeping, issuing, receiving and repairing tools and equipment utilized by the Airport’s Custodial Services unit; preventing minor losses through the safeguarding of tools and equipment; and keeping records of items received, issued and on hand; performs related duties as required.

1. Inspects tools and trouble-shoot equipment used in the cleaning maintenance program at San Francisco International Airport 
2. Maintains and repairs tools and equipment including assembly, disassembly, cleaning, ordering new parts and reassembly, including electrical and mechanical equipment.
3. Performs safety checks on tools and equipment.
4. Checks on tools and equipment returned for defective parts; orders replacements of supplies and stock items as required.
5. Repairs/replaces hoses, belts, electric plugs and electrical extension cords, on/off switches and replacing equipment fuses.
6. Repairs/replaces various wheels, filters, squeegee assemblies and squeegees on equipment.
7. Maintains custodial equipment through assisting/training staff regarding regular maintenance of janitorial equipment.
8. Performs and maintains custodial preventive maintenance program.  
9. Provides data to update tool and equipment repair database.  
10. Provides input regarding necessary replacement cycles and inventory of necessary repair parts.
11. Works in cooperation with current vendors and other repair facilities with regard to repair of larger pieces of cleaning equipment.

Nature of work requires some physical effort and dexterity in the use of fingers, limbs and body; intermittent exposure to working conditions where minor injuries may occur.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Requires completion of eight (8) years of elementary school, supplemented by at least one (1) year of experience in general mechanical maintenance and repair work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Position Summary

Under general supervision, the Ferry Mechanic performs preventative, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, trouble-shooting, repair, and modifications on structural, mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, piping and control systems found on ferry vessels and passenger terminals; performs related work as assigned. Responsibilities include record keeping and written verification of work accomplished.
 

Essential Responsibilities

• Working with computers on a daily basis for work scheduling, work order entry and work order reporting on the Districts electronic maintenance system in addition to notifications and communications.
• Conducts tests, analyses and measurements as directed to diagnose any unusual, erratic or malfunctioning occurrence in any shipboard or terminal system or component.
• Reports any unusual wear patterns, noise, pressure, temperature, or changes in voltage, current, cycles, resistance or any other indication of potential malfunction.
• References manufacturer schematics including blueprints, drawings and specifications to resolve maintenance issues.
• References parts catalogues and other sources to determine correct parts for specific applications.
• Performs inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs and overhauls as directed.
• Documents and records work performed and parts and materials used in the electronic maintenance system. 
• Reports all safety hazards and corrects unsafe situations immediately where possible.
• Immediately reports to supervisor any potential maintenance problem or condition which could cause a possible schedule delay.
• Maintains all work areas, special tools and equipment used in performing maintenance function, in a clean and orderly manner.
• Operate a forklift and other equipment/vehicles safely.
• Interacts on a regular basis with vessel operations personnel.
• Adheres to the safety and health rules and safe working practices applicable to job.
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with District employees, customers, vendors and all others contacted during the course of work using principles of excellent customer service. 
• Performs additional related duties as assigned.
• Regular and reliable attendance and performance required. 

Minimum Qualifications

Education and/or Experience: 

• Completion of a four (4) year apprenticeship program, or approved equivalent as a heavy equipment or marine mechanic OR four (4) years of progressively responsible journey level full-time work experience performing to the maintenance and repair of heavy equipment which should include mechanical, electrical or welding repair, and at least one year in an industrial environment.
• Experience in corrective and preventative maintenance records using a computer-based maintenance management information system
• Experience in utilizing MS Windows based software for data entry, work order processing and materials requisitioning

Required License:  

• Must possess and maintain a current, valid California driver's license and satisfactory driving record (Operates District Vehicles).
• No DUI’s or Reckless Driving codes within the last 7 years. 
• No more than two moving violations within the last 3 years.

Required Tools:

• Must have a full set of journey level hand tools to accomplish assigned work.

Hours:

• Shifts are scheduled based on seniority.
• The Ferry Maintenance Department operates 7 days per week, except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s day.
• Must be available to work all shifts; some overtime maybe required to handle emergencies.

Physical Requirement:  

Requires frequent and extensive physical activities such as: lifting and manipulating up to 50 lbs., bending, standing, stooping, kneeling, twisting, climbing, gripping, and other movements related to essential duties. Work around fumes, odors and dust in an occasionally high noise level environment with appropriate personal protective equipment. Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner. Ability to wear a respirator and be fit tested. Must wear hearing protections when performing certain duties.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of:  

• Occupational health and safety rules and working practices applicable to this position. 
• Monitoring and inspection of propulsion and auxiliary machinery and other supporting systems (i.e., electrical, plumbing, electronics, hydraulics and HVAC in a commercial application.
• Maintenance and troubleshooting principles and best practices.

Skill in or Ability to:

• Understand, read and communicate (both orally and in writing) in Standard English.
• Interpreting and applying oral and written instructions in a consistent manner.
• Reading and reasoning skills to aid in troubleshooting equipment, understanding manufacture and engineering schematics and system drawings.
• Maintain corrective and preventative maintenance records using a computer-based maintenance management information system.
• Perform tasks with limited direction, and minimal supervision.
• Demonstrate ability to make logical decisions and sound judgments using common sense.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Machine shop fabrication skills, familiar with lathe and mill use for the purpose of modification and fabrication of components.
• Welding, steel and aluminum, in shop setting and on-site.
• Electrical/electronic systems, motor controllers, power distribution, PLCs, and ability to troubleshoot the same.
• Off-highway and/or marine diesel engine operation and maintenance

THE OPPORTUNITY

The City of Pacifica is recruiting for a Public Works Superintendent within the Department of Public Works. Under direction of the Field Services Manager, the incumbents will be responsible for the field services of the Public Works Department. They will plan, organize, and direct the work of field personnel and perform related work as required. The incumbents will be assigned to oversee various subdivisions such as Streets, Streams, Storm Drains, Street Lighting, and Motor Pool programs.

THE DEPARTMENT

The Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining and repairing the City’s infrastructure and wastewater treatment operations in an efficient and cost-effective manner while providing a high level of customer service and a safe work environment for city employees. The Department maintains parks, playing fields and medians and keeps streets and trails clean and well-maintained. The Department also coordinates the tree program, cleans beaches and coordinates the City Beautification program.

The Public Works Department is organized into three divisions including Wastewater Treatment Operations, Field Services and Engineering. The Wastewater Treatment Operations includes the operation of the Calera Creek water treatment plant and management of the collection system. Field Services oversees the maintenance of city streets, parks, trees, vehicles and public facilities. The Engineering Division manages public infrastructure projects, transportation planning and maintenance and repair of the City’s infrastructure. The Public Works Department is supported by 56 full-time staff and an annual operating budget of $4.6 million, along with a FY2023-2028 CIP appropriation of $ 8.6 million.

The Air District is currently accepting applications for the position of Principal Staff Specialist in the Strategic Incentives Division (SI) Division. This is an open recruitment for one (1) full-time, represented position.

The Strategic Incentives Division supports the Air District’s mission by implementing incentive programs (grant programs) that achieve voluntary reductions of air pollutants and greenhouse gases, primarily from on- and off-road vehicles and equipment that operate in the Air District’s jurisdiction. In 2023-2024, the SI Division is administering more than $90 million in new revenue to fund programs and projects that replace older diesel-fueled vehicles and equipment such as school and transit buses, marine vessels, locomotives, trucks, construction equipment, agricultural equipment, and other mobile equipment, with newer, cleaner alternatives, including zero-emission technologies, and install refueling/charging infrastructure that supports the accelerated adoption of zero-emissions vehicles and equipment. Other programs administered support the reduction of single-occupancy vehicle, provide cash and mobility options to residents for turning in their older vehicles, and provide grants to reduce pollution from woodburning devices. The Division develops programs to meet community identified strategies for reducing air quality disparities and that benefit the Bay Area’s most overburdened communities.

About you in the position

The Principal Staff Specialist (AB 617 role) in the SI Division will coordinate the division's efforts in bringing greater equity to grant programs through program development, collaboration with other divisions, and engagement with communities under the AB 617 program. With your in-depth knowledge of the Air District’s emission reduction grant programs, you will lead the division's participation in internal and external AB 617 engagement, including communicating the role of the division; analyzing, reporting, and presenting information about air quality improvement incentive programs and mobile sources, participating in community meetings, proposing and guiding discussions on incentive-related emission reduction strategies and actions, developing plans/programs to implement action, and soliciting feedback on strategy implementation. Examples of other tasks include preparing written materials related to grant programs, reports and plans; proposing recommendations for updates to current incentive programs; developing and supporting the development of new programs; assessing impacts of regulatory actions on mobile source categories; presenting to the Board of Directors and other stakeholders; and leading and training staff. This position will require working nights and weekends on occasion to attend community meetings and public events. About Detention Services & Yuba County:

Our Campus provides youth detention services to the communities of Yuba, Sutter, and Colusa Counties as well as several contract counties through our Camp Singer program.  We operate 24 hours a day, 365 days per year, and includes the Tri-County Juvenile Hall, Secure Housing Unit, and Maxine Singer Youth Guidance Center (Camp Singer), under a Joint Powers Agreement between the three counties.
