The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Traffic Maintenance Worker I in the Public Works Department! In this role you will have the opportunity receive on-the-job training in traffic maintenance. You'll learn to paint and install traffic control markings on pavement as well as design, fabricate, install, repair and maintain traffic warning signs, parking signs and other signs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills and abilities for this position is: 
Equivalent to graduation from twelfth grade and six months of work experience as a laborer in construction or maintenance work.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

• Must possess a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record.
• Must possess sufficient strength and stamina to lift and carry objects weighing up to 60 pounds and to perform sustained physical labor.
• Must be willing to work out of doors in all weather conditions and to work with exposure to heavy traffic.
• Must be willing to work overtime and off-hours shifts in emergency situations. 
• Possession of a Level I IMSA Sign and Pavement Markings Certificate within 6 months of hire. 

This position will perform a variety of responsible law enforcement and crime prevention work, including patrolling assigned areas, answering calls and complaints, investigating crimes, serving civil papers, and providing court room security; enforce all federal and state laws and local ordinances related to public safety and welfare.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Performs routine patrol duties, including but not limited to patrolling assigned areas of the County; responding to emergency calls and/or public calls for assistance; investigating disturbances, prowlers, burglaries, thefts, vehicle accidents and other crimes; checking buildings for physical security, etc.

• Administers first aid in emergency situations.

• Issues traffic citations.

• Serves warrants, subpoenas and civil documents.

• Apprehends and arrests suspects and violent persons; transports prisoners; seizes property and/or criminal evidence; interrogates suspects, witnesses and complainants; gathers and preserves evidence.

• Assists with County search and rescue operations.

• Prepares various reports on investigations, including arrest and unusual incidents observed.

• Assists with criminal investigations as required.

• Prepares case files; testifies and presents evidence in court.

• Works with other law enforcement agencies in matters related to the investigation of crimes and apprehension of offenders.

• May serve as special duty officer as assigned, including responsibilities such as serving on the narcotics task force, serving as Deputy Coroner, providing court security, serving as school resource officer, serving as K-9 handler, serving on gang task force, etc.

• Participates in other special projects and programs as assigned.

• Performs duties related to crime prevention and community relations.

• Performs general administrative work, including but not limited to attending meetings, preparing correspondence and reports, entering computer data, maintaining files, answering the phone, etc..

• Performs related duties as assigned.

We are seeking two outgoing and community-oriented individuals to join our Public Works department as temporary, part-time and/or substitute Crossing Guards. This rewarding and impactful position safely assists school children in crossing busy intersections by halting vehicles through the use of mechanical signals and/or hand-held stop signs; maintains order among children waiting to cross the street at street crossing points; permits street crossing only when safe to do so; reports the license numbers of vehicles violating school crosswalk-related traffic laws to Community Services management personnel or the Simi Valley Police Department; and, instills an awareness in school children of safety measures necessary for safe street crossing. 

Pay rate for this position is $16.00 hourly

• Must be 18 years of age or older, have open availability, and be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Must be able to remain calm and use good judgment in emergency situations.
• Basic first aid knowledge is desirable.
• Must possess good hearing ability across a frequency range from 500 Hz to 3,000 Hz. Hearing levels meeting these requirements in the better ear either with or without a hearing aid will be acceptable. If an individual meets the criteria by using a hearing aid, then he/she must wear that hearing aid and be in possession of a spare power source for the hearing aid.
• Must possess corrected vision of 20/40 minimum, with no color blindness.
• A medical examination may be required prior to appointment and as a condition of continuing employment with the City.

The Extra Help Employee - BH (Harmony House Coach) position provides support, education, and advocacy to persons receiving services through the Mental Health Services Act. The Harmony House Coach may also provide a variety of services related to the operations of the Harmony House Drop-In Center and the Full-Service Partnership Program. This position will provide welcoming and supportive activities, as well as perform tasks in support of facility operations at the center. The Security Manager plays a pivotal role in overseeing and coordinating organization-wide security services at Valley Water. Reporting to the Assistant Officer of Emergency, Security & Safety, this mid-management position is responsible for planning, managing, and executing strategic security initiatives to protect Valley Water's infrastructure, assets and staff, and the community. The Security Manager provides expert guidance, formulates policies, and fosters partnerships with local, county, state, and federal agencies to ensure the highest level of security preparedness. The Security Manager is entrusted with the strategic development and implementation of security programs, plans, and processes. This role requires extensive professional expertise, strong leadership skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
 
 Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Plans, manages, and oversees all functions, operations, and activities of the security unit, including contract security services, physical security systems and technologies, un-housed abatement, shooter awareness program, threat and vulnerability assessments and communication protocols.
• Develops programs, strategies, and solutions for security to ensure effective planning for accomplishment of organizational objectives, safety and security for employees, the community and Valley Water’s infrastructure and assets, including water supply and distribution systems, and compliance with all applicable policies, regulations, rules, and laws.
• Develops, implements and manages strategic vulnerability and threat assessments and mitigation plans to protect water supplies, distributions systems and all District facilities from including acts of terrorism; performs vulnerability studies and analysis of disaster and security response capabilities, including Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), Risk Assessment Methodology for Water Utilities (RAM-W) and Dam Assessment Matrix for Security and Vulnerability Risk (DAMSVR) assessments; assesses and determines appropriate level of security needs. 
• Leads efforts to explore new tools and technologies to improve existing physical security and add security assets to new facilities and property.
• Works collaboratively and engages with appropriate social service and law enforcement agencies to address un-housed abatement in Valley Water creeks and other properties; fulfills security requests to support field work.
• Administers contracts for security and security related services; reviews and evaluates compliance of contractor services with Valley Water’s contract standards and provisions; recommends improvements as required in procedures, techniques, and training.
• Provides staff leadership, oversight, guidance, and daily management of assigned unit; develops and implements goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for assigned programs; manages budgets and forecasts resource needs.
• Plans, directs, coordinates, and reviews the work of assigned staff; provides staff and performance reviews and implements discipline measures and manages the Security Office on-call program.
• Oversees, makes recommendations for, and approves the acquisition of security system hardware and software purchases. 
• Develops and delivers effective communication and training programs and activities, such as the Active Shooter Awareness program, to promote security and emergency awareness and preparedness for Valley Water staff, contractors, and the community.  
• Establishes ongoing relationships with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, including the Northern California Regional Intelligence Center (NCRIC); monitors notifications of intelligence, information and alerts from the Office of Homeland Security, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Energy, Department of Transportation, U.S. Bureau of Reclamation and the Awareness National Security Intelligence Reports, as well as the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies and American Water Works Association.

The Yuba County Sheriff’s Department is currently accepting applications to establish an eligibility list for the classification of Correctional Officer.  Under continuing supervision incumbents perform a wide variety of support in two areas: corrections, in which incumbents ensure the security, safety and care of individuals in custody; and bailiff, in which incumbents ensure the safety and security of the courts and their personnel during court proceedings; and perform related work as assigned.
