The City of Livermore is currently accepting applications to fill one (1) Mechanic vacancy and one (1) Senior Mechanic vacancy in the Fleet Services Section of the Maintenance Division.

Mechanics at all levels perform maintenance and repair services on heavy/light City vehicles/equipment, such as fire trucks, automobiles, construction equipment, street sweepers, lawn mowers, stationary generators; and perform other duties as assigned.

The Mechanic is a journey level classification in the Mechanic series. The Mechanic performs a range of skilled tasks requiring journey level mechanical ability and aptitude. Work assignments are performed according to established rules and procedures.

The Senior Mechanic is an advanced journey and lead level position classification in the Mechanic series and may be distinguished from those in the Mechanic class by the broader range of responsibilities and leading a crew. Senior Mechanics provide lead direction and training to section staff.

The Thousand Oaks Library is in search of a Library Assistant who will be a key player in the Technical Services of the Access Services Division. Primary Responsibilities:

• Instruct, coordinate, and schedule Library Pages or volunteers on library procedures; assist with scheduling and overseeing activities. 
• Participates in overseeing the day-to-day operations and services of Technical Services from acquisitions, receiving, and invoicing to cataloging and processing. 
  • Acquisitions: place orders with vendors, ensure orders are received physically and in Sierra, the Library Services Platform; resolve damaged items issues; manage canceled titles; find alternate vendors to fulfill the order. Liaise between vendors and staff to meet the needs of the library. 
  • Perform bookkeeping tasks to ensure invoices accurately reflect goods received; post weekly to update the Fund Report in the integrated library system. 
  • Perform copy cataloging of physical materials, including books, DVDs, or Spoken Word, following existing procedures based on industry-established cataloging standards to update bibliographic records. 
• Ability to interpret general library policies and procedures and apply knowledge using sound judgment 
  • Establish, maintain, and update accurate records and files  
• Technical knowledge 
  • Learn and effectively utilize various computer applications, including but not limited to MS Office365, and Sierra, the Library Services Platform

The Wastewater Collection Systems Worker performs a variety of routine to skilled work in the construction, modification, maintenance, and repair of City infrastructure, including wastewater collection, stormwater and drainage, and related systems. The successful candidate will use and operate a variety of manual and power tools and light to heavy power-driven equipment to perform skilled and specialized work on drainage, collection, and related systems, and appurtenances, and perform related work as required. The department is seeking to fill one (1) full-time Power Resources Specialist I/II position to support the Regulatory Compliance and Policy Division.

The ideal candidate is a skilled and highly motivated individual, with creative problem-solving skills, the ability to learn quickly, and the desire to work both independently and collaboratively. Good judgment, initiative, and cooperation with other staff and outside stakeholders are assets to this position. Under general direction of the Deputy Director, this position will be responsible for supporting the division's engagement in state regulatory affairs to protect and advance San José policy, business, and community interests.

Typical duties of this position may include, but are not limited to:
• Monitor, review, interpret, and explain to a variety of audiences regulatory proposals and other policy issues with an eye toward impact on SJCE and its customers.
• Respond to compliance and data requests by gathering relevant data, drafting reports, and receiving approvals within designated timeframes.
• Support the preparation of comments, position papers, testimony, and the like related to a variety of technical regulatory proceedings impacting SJCE energy procurement, energy management, and electric rates.
• Work independently and with stakeholders to influence state policy.
• Build and maintain stakeholder relationships including non-profit, business, and government entities, and where appropriate build regional and statewide coalitions to support the interests of the department.
• Work closely with technical experts and external regulatory counsel to develop effective and persuasive communications before state agencies as required.
• Represent SJCE in work with other CCAs and with SJCE's state trade association
• Manage a portfolio of regulatory proceedings and/or compliance reporting, including tracking issues, analyzing potential impacts, engaging with stakeholders, and communicating with other internal divisions.

LIBRARIAN I/II – COLLECTION SERVICES- CATALOGING- HEADQUARTERS

FULL TIME – 40 HOURS PER WEEK

 
THE POSITION:
This benefitted, full-time position in the Cataloging Department performs original and derived cataloging for materials in all formats and languages; creates metadata for special collections materials; creates and updates authority records; compiles and reviews records for monthly authority control processing; interprets cataloging policies to staff; and serves as back-up for all copy cataloging tasks and other related duties in the Cataloging Department as needed. The position reports to the Librarian III in the Cataloging Department of the Collection Services Division, located at the Rohnert Park Headquarters.

TYPICAL DUTIES include, but are not limited to:

• Performing original and derived cataloging for special collections materials in all formats, local government documents, local author books; local musician/musical group sound recordings; world language materials and other materials in the circulating/reference collections lacking records; assigns Dewey classification numbers
• Researching names, birth dates, street names, etc. in the Library catalog and other databases to create and update authority records and digital projects metadata
• Entering metadata for photos, archival collections and other special collections materials into Excel spreadsheets
• Loading new records and correcting existing records in the Library’s integrated library system (Horizon), digital asset management system (Quartex), archives system (ArchivesSpace) or other platforms
• Compiling information on new records from a series of monthly reports; investigating problems such as missing or malformed call numbers; and searching WorldCat via OCLC Connexion for replacement records
• Preparing and exporting monthly batches of new bibliographic records to Marcive, Inc. for authority processing; retrieving, importing and troubleshooting processed files 
• Managing retrieval of vendor-provided shelf-ready MARC files via FTP, importing files into Horizon and trouble-shooting problems
• Participating in maintenance and enhancements to the public catalog

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Experience working with OCLC Connexion, Horizon, Quartex, ArchivesSpace or similar systems
• Knowledge of metadata standards, digital asset management systems
• Multilingual (Spanish especially helpful)
• Basic programming/scripting/Regular Expressions knowledge helpful

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
 
Education and Experience: Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS), Master of Library Science (MLS), or Master of Science in Library Science (MSLS) degree from an accredited college or university. The Librarian II requires two years of appropriate professional experience working as a professional librarian, preferably in a public library. Must have a valid California driver’s license. Spanish bilingual skills preferred.
 
SALARY RANGES:              Librarian I -   $36.09/hour to $45.08/hour
                                            Librarian II -  $37.90/hour to $47.34/hour

Per Diem Librarian I

THE POSITION: The San Mateo Public Library has an opening for 2 per diem Librarian I positions with regular schedules (schedules listed below). This recruitment will also be used to fill on call per diem Librarian openings. On call per diem librarians in this role do not have a regular schedule but pick up shifts on an as-needed basis to fill coverage gaps on the Library’s service desks at the Main Library (adult and children’s desks) and branches.

The library is looking for someone who embodies the City of San Mateo’s shared values of respect, creativity, inclusivity, transparency, and integrity to perform a wide variety of library work.

Responsibilities include serving at the Library’s information desks at the Main Library and branches; researching and responding to difficult or technical reference questions; advising and assisting Library patrons; demonstrating the use of on-line library catalogs, databases and other user aids; performing bibliographic searches using online and/or print resources; and performing other tasks as assigned such as assisting with programming and collection management.

SALARY:             $36.90 per hour (Step 1). This position is considered part time and offers limited benefits after working a specified number of hours.

HOURS:              Below are the schedules for the Per Diem Librarian I position. These schedules may be changed in the future to meet the operational needs of the Library. A Sunday shift (1:00-5:00 pm) is required each two-month period.

The City of Foster City is recruiting for a part-time Public Works Maintenance Worker in the Public Works Department. The is a part-time non-benefited position working approximately 20 hours per week, and no benefits are provided. 

Important and Essential Responsibilities 
Operates hand and power tools, light and heavy construction equipment and specialized wastewater equipment. Handles and applies chemicals. Maintains, operates, inspects, repairs and installs water distribution system facilities including piping, storage tanks, meters, hydrants, valves, pressure reducing stations, pumping stations, pumps, controls, measuring devices, cathodic protection systems, communication systems, and related appurtenances.

Education and Training Guidelines: 
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way would be:

Education: Completion of a job or technical training program in maintenance or construction; completion of high school or the equivalent. 

Experience: One year of experience in general maintenance or construction. 

Licenses, Certificates, Registration: 

• Possession of a valid California Class "C" Driver’s License and maintain license and a good driving record.

Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed for relevant education, experience, training and other job related qualifications. Based upon a review of employment applications received, a limited number of the qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the examination process. 

The process will consist of an Oral Panel Interview. An eligibility list will be established from those who pass the examination process with a score of 70% or higher. Current and future vacancies may be filled from this list. The list will remain in effect for at least one year unless exhausted sooner. 

The department will invite the most qualified candidates from the eligibility list to a final department interview. The Public Works department will make the hiring decision.
