The City of Brisbane will be sponsoring up to four summer internships this year.  Our internships are project-oriented and designed to give college students a good general overview of future employment opportunities and current issues in the Public Sector.  You will have the opportunity for exposure to various areas of City Administration during your internship and to network with fellow interns and participate in professional development activities in San Mateo County and/or Santa Clara County.

Projects for 2024 include:

• Communications – Assist with developing innovative and relevant content for posting on City-administered social media sites, research and work with departments in developing articles for publication on the City’s website and print newsletter, and assist with aspects of video production including storyboarding, camera work, and script-writing.

• IT – Have some familiarity with programs such as Windows, Active Directory, Office/Microsoft 365. Must be able to disassemble and reassemble a PC. Projects will consist of adding and editing AD and email accounts and sorting and organizing hardware components. Some daily tasks will include responding to help desk requests and making basic equipment repairs and replacements.

• Human Resources - Offering learning opportunities by following a full recruitment and onboarding process. Assist with website updating; maintaining employee records; the conversion of physical records/forms to electronic format; and conducting research and analysis on HR-related topics.

• Public Works (Utilities) – Provide support to the City's Public Works Department - Utilities Division with various engineering projects in drinking water distribution, water resources, sanitary sewer collection, and storm drainage. Primary assignment will focus on mapping and geolocating drinking water facilities to comply with new state regulatory compliance.  Secondary assignments may include field engineering support on construction of capital utility projects and assisting on various engineering reports and studies.

Applicants must be college students currently enrolled in and pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree at an accredited college or university in a related field (e.g. public administration, public policy, business, planning, library science, environmental studies, engineering, sustainability). Undergraduate candidates must have a minimum of 48 semester units or equivalent completed.  Applicants should also be self-motivated, have excellent interpersonal skills, able to use Microsoft Office software, demonstrate good research ability and have the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. 

SALARY AND HOURS: The salary range for Interns is $20.00 per hour, 15-18 hours per week over a 12-week period.  The start date is flexible depending on the student’s availability.

Waterfront Resilience Program (WRP)

The Waterfront Resilience Program (WRP) is a multi-decade, multi-hazard Program led by the Port of San Francisco with the goal of adapting the Bay waterfront along the Port’s 7.5-mile jurisdiction to address multiple hazards including coastal and combined flooding, sea level rise and earthquakes. The Port and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) released the San Francisco Waterfront Coastal Flood Study Integrated Feasibility Study and Environmental Impact Statement (Flood Study), including a $13.5 billion Draft Plan for adapting the waterfront for public review in February 2024. The Port is also implementing construction to mitigate risks that can be initiated in the near term (Early Projects) funded by Proposition A, the Seawall Earthquake Safety Bond, and other sources.

Job Description

Under the direction of the Waterfront Resilience Director, the Waterfront Resilience Program (WRP) Deputy Program Manager - Environmental develops the programmatic strategy for planning and execution of nature-based adaptation strategies, investigation and remediation of hazardous materials, and permitting and environmental review for all WRP activities through 2030 and beyond, including managing staff, consultants, and public and resource agency engagement.

This position is a key leadership position within the WRP, working collaboratively alongside the WRP Deputy Program Manager – Engineering & Project Delivery, WRP Deputy Program Manager – Planning, and WRP Flood Study Project Manager.

The essential functions of this position include:

• Oversees the planning and execution of nature-based adaptation strategies, including the Living Seawall Pilot and the Engineering with Nature Working Group in coordination with the Waterfront Resilience Program Deputy Program Manager – Planning and the Flood Study Project Manager. 
• Oversees the planning and execution of investigation and remediation of hazardous materials related to specific Early Projects and the USACE Flood Study.
• Oversees the planning and execution of environmental studies, including environmental review and analysis required under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).
• As a Program leader, sets the example of the Program culture of caring including, but not limited to, safety, inclusion, diversity, and equity.
• Coordinates input of Port staff into all relevant Early Project and Flood Study permitting and environmental review.
• In consultation with the Deputy Program Manager – Planning and the Flood Study Project Manager, develops and oversees the Engagement Plan for the Resource Agency Working Group, which includes a broad range of regulatory and resource agencies with jurisdiction over construction activities in San Francisco Bay.
• Collaborates with Deputy Program Manager – Engineering and Project Delivery to develop messaging and strategy with the permitting agencies (name them) related to Early Projects.
• Coordinates with City Planning Department (Environmental Planning) to conduct CEQA/NEPA for the Early Projects and the Flood Study and subsequent design and construction.
• Manages and approves the deliverables of environmental consultants.
• For the Flood Study, oversees the analysis and selection of the Least Damaging Practicable Alternative (LEDPA) under the Clean Water Act.
• Ensures strategic coordination and consultation on resilience permitting and regulatory issues for individual projects.
• Oversees the CEQA/NEPA effort for the USACE Flood Study which will be managed by the Flood Study Project Manager.
• Oversees environmental team input to design and environmental compliance during construction.
• Works collaboratively with all members of the WRP team to identify and resolve issues promptly, escalating issues for resolution to the Waterfront Resilience Director, the Assistant Port Director and the Port Director as required.
• Provides support and guidance to USACE Flood Study team members to deliver the Study.
• Supervises environmental and permitting staff assigned to the Waterfront Resilience Program.

THE POSITION:

The City of San Rafael is recruiting for a Child Care Director.  Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, this position will perform responsible work in administering and managing a state-funded preschool program.  The incumbent in this position will independently oversee the program and staff at Pickleweed Preschool located in East San Rafael. 

This position performs the following essential job duties: 

• Assist with the establishment of the program budget
• Hire, train, and supervise staff
• Supervise timely completion of annual ECERS
• Supervise completion of DRDP assessments twice annually
• Supervise timely completion of parent surveys
• Supervise timely completion of two parent conferences annually
• Supervise timely ongoing child portfolios
• Supervise and implement systems for creating and maintaining regular written child observations
• Complete annual June 1st report to Department of Education
• Schedule staff and ensure appropriate staffing levels are maintained
• Facilitate parent nights for families four times per year
• Liaison with parents and school districts
• Function as classroom instructor
• Approve Child Care Instructor II curriculum and plans

Working as part of the Benefits team, the new HR Tech will provide daily customer service support to County employees and retirees by answering questions about the generous benefits that are offered and conducting trainings and presentations to educate employees and retirees about their benefit packages.  Call center experience is extremely helpful, though not required. The HR Tech will be responsible for reconciling benefits reports and assisting in the development of dashboards. Benefits Division
The Employee Benefits Division, led by the Human Resources Benefits Manager, coordinates and administers benefits programs, providing assistance and technical support to County employees and retirees, benefit partners, and insurance providers.

Out team supports a workforce of over 6,000 active employees and 3,000 retirees.  We operate a customer service call center, conduct one-on-one and group benefits education, and facilitate large benefits-related training sessions.  We assist employees with benefit concerns, work closely with administrators and insurance providers to resolve County coverage issues quickly, and process benefit changes efficiently.

Qualifications

Experience and Education:

The Emergency Dispatcher I/II position in the Sheriff’s Department performs a variety of difficult work in the provision of 24-hour-per-day, seven-days-per-week public safety emergency dispatch service, including all 911 communications. Emergency Dispatcher I is the entry level class in the Emergency Dispatcher series.  It differs from Emergency Dispatcher II in that the II level is fully trained as a dispatcher and may provide training for the Dispatcher I. This position is scheduled for forty (40) hours per week.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Receives incoming calls from the public; determines type of assistance required, including law enforcement, fire or ambulance personnel, etc., and dispatches emergency and non-emergency radio and telephone communications to appropriate jurisdictions and agencies.
• Operates a law enforcement 911 communications network.
• Maintains radio communications with field personnel as necessary to relay messages and information, and to determine the location and safety of field personnel.
• Performs a variety of clerical duties as required, including but not limited to answering business telephones; processing and/or maintaining department records, including case files; compiling information and statistics for reports; preparing criminal history reports; entering/cancelling/retrieving data on computer; ordering supplies, copying and filing documents, etc.
• Processes civil, misdemeanor, juvenile and felony warrants.

The City of Sunnyvale is accepting applications for a Human Resources Analyst to work within the Risk Management Division of the Human Resources Department. This position is responsible assisting with the development, coordination and administration of the City's Workers' Compensation Program including facilitating claims investigations and serving as the liaison between the City, injured worker and third-party administrator in workers' compensation related issues.
