We are seeking an innovative and proactive Building Official (Building Division Manager) with a positive, forward-thinking perspective.  The Building Official (Building Division Manager) will manage all building division functions (building permit issuance, plan check and building inspections).  The position reports to the Deputy Community Development Director for Planning and Development.

The Building Official (Building Division Manager) will assist in integrating the City’s vision and goals with the business strategy of the Community Development Department; managing, planning and organizing Community Development services, programs, and operations; developing and implementing policy; crafting and accomplishing department and City objectives, goals, and performance metrics within guidelines established by the City Council and City Manager.  The Building Official (Building Division Manager) must exercise a high degree of judgment and discretion along with political acumen and an understanding of the needs of the community.

Senior Planner

The City of Sausalito seeks a highly-motivated person who, under direction of the Community Development Director, administers specified planning activities including current planning, zoning and subdivision ordinance, advanced planning and the General Plan; complex professional planning activities, such as serving as project manager for complex development and land use applications. This is a lead position in the Community Development Department and will participate in advanced, multi-department initiatives. The Senior Planner also:

• Reviews applications for residential, commercial and other land use development; evaluates alternatives and conformance with City policies, ordinances, the General Plan and state and federal laws; prepares and presents staff reports to the Planning Commission and City Council regarding such applications;
• Serves as project manager for complex planning projects, including analyzing and evaluating site and architectural plans, performing technical review for project plans and applications and making recommendations;
• Manages consultant contacts including determining scope of work and budgets, tracking budgets and approving contract payments;
• Updates and creates long-range planning documents such as the City’s General Plan and other assigned plans; prepares modifications to specific General Plan elements;
• Serves as staff liaison for review boards, ad-hoc committees and elected officials, including providing technical advice and giving presentations;
• Confers with and provides information to property owners, contractors, developers, engineers architects and the public regarding conformance to standards, plans specifications and codes; explains codes, requirements and procedures and evaluates alternatives;
• Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service;
• Ability to deal with the public under stressful circumstances in a fair, calm and understanding way to obtain positive results;
• Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

The City of Larkspur is seeking an experienced planning professional looking to join the Planning & Building Department and work in a dynamic team environment in a small-town setting. This is an exciting opportunity for a professional looking to advance their career and work on a wide range of projects with a high level of responsibility and accountability. The ideal candidate is an experienced urban or regional planning professional, ready to bring outstanding customer service and professionalism to our Planning and Building Department. The position requires a high degree of interaction and coordination with various city departments, outside consultants and agencies, and the public. In addition to current and advanced planning duties, this position will be the primary staff member responsible for promoting sustainability and resiliency initiatives as well as serve as the City liaison to the Marin Climate & Energy Partnership (MCEP). The Associate Planner is expected to readily develop the skills and knowledge necessary to serve as the Zoning Administrator for the City.

• Assist and answer public inquiries at permit information counter.
• Review building permits and business license certificates for conformance to current zoning  regulations.
• Process administrative permit approvals (e.g. Exception Permits, Second Unit Permits)
• Process discretionary permit approvals; analyze planning and planning-related development projects; ensure development proposals conform to General Plan and other applicable plans and regulations.
• Assist in preparing amendments to the General Plan, Municipal Code, and/or other policy and procedure documents as necessary.
• Provide technical and professional advice; respond to questions and concerns from the general public; provide information as is appropriate and resolve complaints.
• Attend City Council meetings, Planning Commission meetings, and other boards, commissions, and committee meetings as needed and represent the City to outside agencies; participate in preparing and managing community workshops; take notes and prepare summary reports.
• Gather, interpret, and prepare data for permit application review process, studies, reports and recommendations; coordinate department activities with other City departments and agencies as needed.
• Manage and participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies and priorities for assigned programs; recommend and administer policies and procedures.
• Use a variety of software to maintain and update the Department’s website, electronic forms and databases, and records.

• Possession of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in urban or regional planning or a related field
• At least two years of professional-level work experience in urban or regional planning or related  field

In addition, qualified candidates must:

• Possess a valid Class C California Driver’s License by date of appointment
• Be willing and able to work occasional evenings as needed for required meetings
• If necessary during an emergency or disaster, work as Disaster Service Worker (DSW) as required of all public employees in the State of California
