• Cuts lumber for concrete forms to proper size and place stakes.
• Breaks up and remove concrete.
• Spreads and level base rock.
• Mixes concrete; pour concrete into forms, tamp, jitterbug surface.
• Applies concrete finish with trowel, screed, float or other tools.
• Patch holes with fresh concrete.

 
Traffic Safety Assignment

• Replaces, maintains and repairs guard rails, traffic dividers, signs, and similar traffic control devices.
• Assists in determining color of paint to be applied to street markings.
• Selects proper stencils for street markings.
• Applies stripes and intervals for new street markings.
• Places stencils over old street markings, start compressor and spray inside stencils.
• Cleans and maintains spray equipment, including stencil truck; place and pick up traffic cones during the operation of the striping machine.
• Prepares traffic signs.
• Applies sheeting to metal sign blanks for background color, numbering and lettering.
• Trim sign edges.
• Assists with street sign installation.
• Participates in the installation of raised pavement markers.
• Operates striping machine.

Street Sanitation Assignment

• Controls and remove litter.
• Removes drain outlet cover.
• Cleans storm drains and lines using hand and power tools.
• Under supervision, operates storm drain cleaning machines.

Marginal Functions

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This entry-level classification in the Program Leader series is responsible for providing child development services in Youth Services programs. Incumbents at this level are not expected to function with the same amount of knowledge or skill level as positions allocated to the Senior Program Leader level, and usually exercise less independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods. Work is usually supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern. Exceptions or changes in procedures are explained in detail as they arise. As experience is gained, assignments become more varied and are performed with greater independence.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Management reserves the right to add, modify, change, or rescind the work assignments of different positions and to make reasonable accommodations so that qualified employees can perform the essential functions of the job.

1. Provides support duties for child development services in Youth Services programs; assists children in activities; prepares and serves snacks based on established guidelines; performs clean-up and food storage duties.

2. Assists in preparing instructional, craft, and other materials; participates in, and encourages, play activities with the children; may assist in providing tutorial and/or remedial activities in small groups.

3. Uses positive reinforcement strategies to maintain order and discipline within the classroom; handles disruptions as needed.

4. Opens, secures, and cleans program areas before and after program use; prepares program areas for scheduled activities and events.

5. Assists in the implementation and monitoring of District procedures with respect to participant safety.

8. May participate in public relations, outreach, and community education activities.

Education and Experience:

•  High School Diploma or GED, or currently enrolled in child development Regional Occupational Program (ROP).
•  Experience working with children in a childcare or educational setting is desirable.

Knowledge of:

• Child development services, operations, and activities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must possess: mobility to perform medium physical work; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio. The classification supports indoor and outdoor programs requiring frequent walking, running, conducting exercises, and related physical activities. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard, calculator, or tools and equipment used in assigned program area. Program activities may require sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping, and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties; the ability to lift, carry, and push tools, equipment, and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds or heavier weights with assistance and/or the use of proper equipment.

ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS

Incumbents work in both indoor and outdoor environments with moderate to loud noise levels. May work in controlled temperature conditions, cold and hot temperatures, or inclement weather conditions. The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Camp Maintenance Mechanic (Non-Career Intermittent) in the Parks, Recreation and Waterfront Department! In this role, you will have the opportunity to keep our camps running smoothly by performing both routine and heavy, physical work in the construction, maintenance, repair and cleaning of camp facilities. You'll operate a variety of hand and power tools to perform preventive maintenance and repair.

Our two overnight camps are located near South Lake Tahoe and Yosemite. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Participates in the removal, repair and replacement of storm drainage pipe. Due to variety of outdoor settings, needs to be able to work in all weather and terrain conditions. Due to 24-hour maintenance needs, needs to be able to work at all times of day and night. Operates light and heavy motorized construction and maintenance equipment including grappler, rollers, VacCon trucks, street sweepers, backhoes, compressors and pneumatic tools. Drives equipment to and from job sites. Loads and unload equipment; inspect equipment. Excavates, backfills, grades and rolls construction and repair sites. Cleans work sites and equipment. Perform preventative maintenance, adjustments and minor repairs on equipment. Cleans equipment. Greases, lubricates and fuels vehicles. Changes backhoe buckets and teeth. Perform various Sanitation tasks including drain inlet cleaning, storm line inspection and street sweeping. Desirable Experience: Experience in high level complex, high volume recruitments, and compensation analysis. The Department

The Human Resources Department is responsible for the following program activities:
• Recruitment and selection
• Classification and compensation
• Employee and labor relations
• Organizational development
• Employee benefits and payroll administration

The Position

The Human Resources Analyst I/II will perform a wide range of responsibilities in the Human Resources Department. The current vacancy will primarily focus on recruitment and examination responsibilities. This recruitment may also be utilized to fill an additional vacancy to support the benefits function within the Human Resources Department.

Examples of job responsibilities may include, but not limited to the following:
• Compile and analyze HR metrics and data from a variety of sources and HR systems (NEOGOV and PeopleSoft 9.2) to make recommendations.
• Prepares reports with data results, including presenting and explaining findings/recommendations related to human resources policies and processes.
• Assists in the interpretation and application of human resources rules, policies, legislation and MOUs.
• Recruitment & Examination:
− Plan, develop and administer the full cycle recruitment/selection process and activities.
− Provide analytical support with position classification/compensation to support client departments’ hiring/staffing needs.
− Identify and implement industry best practices for hard-to-fill positions.
− Utilize social media and other recruitment marketing sources to attract and increase candidate pools.
− Implement efficiencies that will result in reducing the time to hire.
• Benefits Administration:
− Provide analytical support with the administration of benefits programs, including the City’s retiree medical reimbursement program, deferred compensation governance, leave administration, Affordable Care Act (ACA) and the City’s annual open enrollment process.
− Support HRIS (PeopleSoft 9.2) testing activities to support benefits programs and processes: open enrollment, ACA, CalPERS, including the development and implementation of new functionality (e.g.., onboarding) within PeopleSoft 9.2.
