Community Services Division: Safe + Clean + Engaged Neighborhoods

Empower and support residents, schools, and local organizations to make the City more livable, safe, and clean.

Project Hope is a neighborhood engagement and empowerment initiative focused on nine neighborhoods in San Jose. Organized into operational teams, Project Hope staff are assigned to specific neighborhoods, where they assist residents to address the conditions and circumstances that exist due to systemic racism such as crime/violence, blight, lack of trust, marginalization, and inadequate services. Project Hope supports residents to create new neighborhood associations or reinvigorate existing ones, develop the organizational and capacity building skills to better utilize and reach key City, and other public/private resources to address ongoing quality-of-life issues.

License or Certificates:

When only assigned to recreation duties, the following is required and must be maintained during the course of employment.

THE POSITION

The City of Rocklin is looking for two Maintenance Workers to assist in the Parks Division of the Parks and Recreation Department. The Maintenance Worker is a temporary position and incumbents work on an as-needed basis, not to exceed 28 hours per week and up to 999 hours per fiscal year. Temporary employment does not provide any guarantee of continued employment and the City of Rocklin may end the assignment at any time. Temporary employees are not eligible for any other benefits except where required by law, and there is no guarantee of future permanent employment.

An example of duties are:

• Performs flood control measures by clearing creeks of obstructions, keeping drains clean and clear, and preparing sandbags in case of emergency.
• Performs crack sealing of asphalt, and backfilling trenches and excavations on City streets; performs repair, maintenance, and construction of sidewalks, curbs, and gutters.
• Removes concrete, builds forms, pours concrete, and performs other concrete work around City buildings as required.

The Human Services Department (HSD) delivers and supports services by forging long-term community partnerships; engaging with and building the capacity of the community to do its own problem- solving; and leveraging financial and volunteer resources. 

The Aging and Family Services Division (AFS) of HSD specifically supports older residents and their caregivers to live active, healthy lives in the Tri-City community. With input from local, older adults (age 55 years+) as our guide, the AFS team provides a continuum of supportive services, from health promotion activities to home-based end of life care. AFS has a Senior InfoLine that is answered in 4 languages (Farsi, English, Spanish and Chinese) that is often an entry point.

DefinitionUnder administrative direction from the Human Services Director, plans, organizes and directs a Division of the Human Services Department which provides specialized family services; and serves as a member of the department's management team.

Class Characteristics
This professional management classification in the Human Services Department may be assigned as Youth and Family Services Administrator, Aging and Family Services Administrator or Family Resource Center Administrator. Incumbent follows general guidelines or professional and administrative standards in accomplishing assignments; it is characterized by the responsibility to develop and implement mental and physical health and other social services that support self-sufficiency, strengthen families, help children achieve their optimal development, and help older adults remain independent and engaged in the community for as long as possible. Supervision for the Family Resource Center Administrator is jointly provided by the Human Services Director and leadership team of the Family Resource Center. Review of work is occasional or on a problem basis with incumbents presenting alternative courses for policy decisions. Routine and unusual problems are handled within the context of general plans, broad policies, budgetary limitations and professional standards. Successful performance is measured by total results. This classification is distinguished from Human Services Director by the latter's responsibility to plan, organize and direct the work of the Human Services Department, and from Clinical Supervisor by the latter's responsibility to supervise counseling or social work staff, to monitor the implementation of professional standards, and to provide training and direction to professional staff and interns. You will lead and contribute to the successful preparation and implementation of community-scale air quality plans in partnership with Air District staff, community members, partner organizations, local governments, the California Air Resources Board, and other state agencies. You will work to support community steering committees and other community partners determine how to best improve air quality and reduce health disparities while centering equity and addressing environmental justice. To be successful in this role, you must be a strong team player, have strong communication, project management and analytical skills, and be able to work with people of varied backgrounds and perspectives, including low-income communities of color and communities overburdened by air pollution. You will leverage your knowledge of land use, transportation, air quality, equity and environmental justice to lead and conduct research, analyze issues, prepare community centered planning materials including preparing and delivering presentations, writing summaries and plan documents, and craft recommendations to support community and Air District decision making.
