DEFINITION

Under the supervision of the Plant and Equipment Maintenance Manager, does skilled mechanical work in repairing and installing equipment in the Water and Wastewater systems; and performs other duties as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Installs, replaces and repairs pumps, motors, generators, and auxiliary equipment; levels and aligns equipment to prevent vibration; installs and connects instruments, gauges, tubing, pipes, instrument panels, switches and valves; dismantles pumps, compressors, motors and generators for inspection of worn or broken parts and makes appropriate adjustments, replacements and repairs; keeps written and computerized records of repairs and maintenance services performed; furnishes Plant and Equipment Maintenance Manager with information for parts and inventory control; assists operators and maintenance personnel in the general maintenance of equipment and facilities of the Department of Water and Wastewater Resources; may be required to work under adverse conditions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:           The installation, operation and repair of pumps, compressors, motors, generators and related equipment; mechanical ability and skill in the use of tools and materials involved in the installation, maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical equipment; use of welding equipment and cutting torch; knowledge of pipe and pipe fitting installations; use of appropriate safety equipment and tools and principles of safety and accident prevention.

DEFINITION

Under general supervision, the Plant Operator II during an assigned shift is responsible for operation of the wastewater treatment plant and for maintaining a variety of machinery and equipment.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

THE POSITION: The San Mateo Public Library has an opening for 2 per diem Librarian I positions with regular schedules (schedules listed below). This recruitment will also be used to fill on call per diem Librarian openings. On call per diem librarians in this role do not have a regular schedule but pick up shifts on an as-needed basis to fill coverage gaps on the Library’s service desks at the Main Library (adult and children’s desks) and branches.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Refuse Truck Driver II

This is a journey level class and is distinguished from the Maintenance Worker I classification by the ability to perform the full range of duties assigned with only occasional instruction or assistance as unusual or unique situations arise. This class is distinguished from the Senior Refuse Truck Diver in that the latter provides technical and functional supervision over assigned staff or division programs and responsibilities.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED

Receives general supervision from a Public Works Supervisor. May receive technical and functional supervision from a Senior Refuse Truck Driver.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Include but are not limited to the following:

• Drives and operates a variety of collection vehicles and equipment including one or two-person-staffed refuse collection truck, front, rear and side loaders in the collection and transportation of residential and commercial refuse; responds to afterhours call-outs if assigned.
• Maintains assigned truck by regular cleaning and washing, including inspecting for mechanical or other operating problems; reports mechanical or related problems for maintenance; may perform minor maintenance as appropriate.
• Operates hydraulic/mechanical controls to load, compress, and dump refuse; collects and disposes of debris on assigned route; transports refuse to/unload at appropriate landfill sites and/or sewage treatment plant.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. The need to lift, carry and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing 25 pounds or more is also required. Additionally, the incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions including wet, hot and cold. The incumbent may use cleaning and lubricating chemicals, pesticides or herbicides which may expose the employee to fumes, dust and air contaminants. THE POSITION

Reporting to the Director of Administrative Services, the Management Analyst (Risk Management) provides professional support to risk management programs including: workers' compensation, safety compliance, review and approval of contracts and Certificates of Insurance, risk transfer, and leave and disability administration. 

In addition, you will have the opportunity to coordinate and oversee workers' compensation claims administration including monitoring accepted claims and providing information to claimants, attorneys, and the workers' compensation carrier. You will also serve as a consultant to City departments and employees on Risk Management (workers' compensation, safety, contract insurance) problems and communicate regularly with internal and external parties to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of assigned programs and activities, minimize risk, and advise of claim developments. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Possession of a bachelor's degree with major coursework in public or business administration, finance, human resources, economics, or a closely related field;

AND

Three (3) years of increasingly responsible professional experience performing public administration, finance, housing, or human resources functions; or

One (1) year of experience at a level equivalent to the City’s class of Associate Management Analyst or Administrative Analyst.

When assigned to a specific functional area as noted above, additional knowledge and experience in such area may be desirable.

Public sector experience is preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

• Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid California Class C Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record is required. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

WORK HOURS:  The Library is open seven days per week, some evenings until 8:00 p.m. Hours vary and may include evening and weekend shifts.
