INTERIM PROFESSIONAL-TEMPORARY STAFF FOR

THE ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT

Pay: $30.00 - $90.00 Hourly

Interim Professional is a temporary employee hired to meet a specific, short term need to perform complex professional level and/or advanced technical responsibilities, which may require the application of technical skills and/or knowledge of detailed or specialized activities related to the functions of the Engineering Department.

For this assignment the City of Sebastopol is seeking an engaging, inclusive, collaborative, and talented leader who is well-versed in engineering principles and practices, project management, facility and infrastructure maintenance, water distribution and wastewater collection systems, public parks and facilities maintenance, laws, regulations, and safety standards. The incumbent serves and coordinates assigned activities with other departments and outside agencies.

This position plans, organizes, directs, and reviews the full range of activities and operations of the Engineering Department, including engineering design, public works construction and inspection, repair and maintenance of City infrastructure and streets, and transportation programs. THE POSITION

To perform a variety of skilled and semiskilled horticulture tasks in the construction, maintenance and repair of parks, pools, recreation, and cemetery facilities and buildings.  The purpose of this recruitment is to hire multiple temporary/part-time positions.  Candidates who do not currently meet the minimum qualifications for the Park Maintenance Worker I position may be considered for an Intern position instead.

Temporary/part-time employees work no more than 130 hours per month and 960 hours per fiscal year.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Performing general grounds cleaning, including emptying trash receptacles, mopping, sweeping, and raking City park and recreation sites as needed. Water, mow, cultivate, prune, weed, renovate, and fertilize grass, plants, trees, flowers, and shrubs. Operate power mowers, chain saws, rototillers, aerators, hedgers, spreaders, front-end loader, edgers, air compressors, and other equipment. Utilize proper safety precautions related to all performed work. Drive vehicles and equipment as required. Prepare and maintain athletic fields and related facilities, swimming pools, and cemetery/interment operations.  Regular and consistent attendance.

 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Install, maintain and replace playground equipment and fences; assemble tables, benches and bleachers. Works as a member of the City pest control crew spraying various fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and other related chemicals in City park and recreation areas. Respond to inquiries from the general public. Install, maintain and repair irrigation systems. Assist in setting up community services and special events. Maintain, repair and replace plumbing systems and fixtures such as light switches, motors, wall receptacles, conduits, faucets, drinking fountains, water heaters, water closet, urinals, water regulators and pressure valves.  Work cooperatively with others. Work any shift including weekends and holidays. Perform related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Park Maintenance Worker I

Education:  High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience:  Six (6) months of experience in the care and maintenance of landscapes or facilities.

License and Certificate:  Required upon hire, possession of a valid California Driver’s License

 

THE ABILITY TO SPEAK AND UNDERSTAND SPANISH IS A DESIRABLE QUALIFICATION
FOR ALL POSITIONS.

 

WORK HOURS

Work hours vary by assignment and may be required to work evenings, weekends and/or holidays.  Position typically works 25-30 hours per week.

Per diem librarians may support a combination of the activities below depending on the needs--location of service may vary. Schedules vary based on the needs of the library system. Both Menlo Park Library locations are open on Saturdays and Sundays, and until 8pm three nights per week. The General Maintenance Worker is essential to maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and overall appearance of our community spaces. This role involves a wide range of responsibilities, including:

• Field Preparation: Setting up and maintaining sports fields, including mowing, watering, infield grooming, mound/plate repair, edging and chalking the field
• Groundskeeping & Landscaping: General grounds maintenance, such as weeding, fertilizing, watering, pruning, and renovating landscaped areas.
• Facility & Equipment Maintenance: Performing minor repairs on facilities like fences and benches, ensuring all maintenance equipment is in good working order, and utilizing a variety of hand and power tools.
• Cleaning & Waste Management: Cleaning restrooms, emptying garbage cans, and removing weeds and trash from parks and walkways.
• Event & Equipment Support: Assisting with the setup and teardown of events, moving and installing park and recreation equipment, and handling heavy objects related to maintenance.

The Position:

The Literacy Technology Assistant helps Read Santa Clara's adult learners gain basic digital literacy skills. The person helps adult learners 1:1 or in small groups learn how to use the literacy program's laptops and iPads as well as how to use literacy software on their own devices. The Literacy Technology Assistant may also be called on to support volunteer tutors or Read Santa Clara staff, as the need arises. The Literacy Technology Assistant is a patient, empathetic individual, who can teach basic technology skills to adults who have little or no digital literacy skills.

 

As an as-needed employee, this is an "at-will" position and there is no guarantee of hours. Hours are limited to 999 in a fiscal year or 960 hours in a fiscal year for retired CalPERS annuitants.

The Town of Los Gatos is recruiting for a temporary/hourly Code Compliance Officer as part of the Town's Code Compliance team in the Community Development Department. Under direction, the Code Compliance Officer performs a variety of duties and assignments including patrol, which is principally the performance of a variety of routine, nonhazardous municipal law enforcement duties for which sworn personnel are not required.

This position reports to and is supervised by the Town's Building Official. The successful candidate will receive appropriate training in the collection of information, the use of noise meters and other equipment, compliance tactics and strategies, and other matters consistent with the Town's high degree of respect and courtesy to all parties.
 
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The Code Compliance Officer must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with the public and exercise sound judgment, tact, and integrity. The Code Compliance Officer must possess a calm demeanor and remain alert and coherent while under routine or stressful situations. The successful candidate must understand how to respond appropriately to changing field situations and work well with staff from Police, Community Development, and other Departments.

TEEN CENTER/ KIDS NIGHT OUT PROGRAM STAFF

Salary Range: $17.37 to $28.95/hour depending on experience.

 

This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefitted position; 15-20 hours per week (not to exceed 950 hours per fiscal year); predominantly afternoon/early evening schedule with some weekends and concurrent with the school year.

 

SUPERVISION

General supervision received from the Program Coordinator. May exercise supervision of other staff depending on position.

 

GENERAL DUTIES

Responsible for general oversight of and ensuring the safety of the after-school youth programming. Specific responsibilities to include:

 

• Organize and execute a variety of daily and weekly activities for participants ranging in ages 5 –14   including art, crafts, and games

Middle School (Teen Centers) 

Our Teen Centers provide a secure and entertaining atmosphere for middle school students to spend their after-school hours. The centers are furnished with the latest game consoles, high-definition TVs, sports equipment, computers with internet access, board games, and other amusing activities. We operate on early release days and select non-school days, but we are closed during holidays.

Youth Services/Kids’ Night Out Program

Under the general supervision of the Youth Program Coordinator and direct supervision of the Youth Program Assistant, Youth Services staff is responsible for supervision and safety within the bi-monthly Kids’ Night Out Program, including implementing a variety of crafts, games and activities for youth ages 5 to 11.

 Paid intern positions are available within the Environmental Services Department. The positions are an excellent part-time opportunity for an individual with GIS skills wishing to obtain work experience in the Environmental Studies field. Current student enrollment is not required.
 
 Enrichment Opportunities

• Learn and work with the City’s GIS and Office 365 suite of applications.

WORKING CONDITIONS
 Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking on level, uneven, and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement, and fine coordination in using a computer keyboard and certain tools. The position also requires near and far vision when reading written work related documents and using a computer. Acute hearing is required when providing phone and personal customer service. The need to lift, drag, carry, and push equipment, tools and supplies up to 50 pounds is also required.
