The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Traffic Maintenance Worker I in the Public Works Department! In this role you will have the opportunity receive on-the-job training in traffic maintenance. You'll learn to paint and install traffic control markings on pavement as well as design, fabricate, install, repair and maintain traffic warning signs, parking signs and other signs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills and abilities for this position is: 
Equivalent to graduation from twelfth grade and six months of work experience as a laborer in construction or maintenance work.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

• Must possess a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record.
• Must possess sufficient strength and stamina to lift and carry objects weighing up to 60 pounds and to perform sustained physical labor.
• Must be willing to work out of doors in all weather conditions and to work with exposure to heavy traffic.
• Must be willing to work overtime and off-hours shifts in emergency situations. 
• Possession of a Level I IMSA Sign and Pavement Markings Certificate within 6 months of hire. 

This position will perform a variety of responsible law enforcement and crime prevention work, including patrolling assigned areas, answering calls and complaints, investigating crimes, serving civil papers, and providing court room security; enforce all federal and state laws and local ordinances related to public safety and welfare.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Performs routine patrol duties, including but not limited to patrolling assigned areas of the County; responding to emergency calls and/or public calls for assistance; investigating disturbances, prowlers, burglaries, thefts, vehicle accidents and other crimes; checking buildings for physical security, etc.

• Administers first aid in emergency situations.

• Issues traffic citations.

• Serves warrants, subpoenas and civil documents.

• Apprehends and arrests suspects and violent persons; transports prisoners; seizes property and/or criminal evidence; interrogates suspects, witnesses and complainants; gathers and preserves evidence.

• Assists with County search and rescue operations.

• Prepares various reports on investigations, including arrest and unusual incidents observed.

• Assists with criminal investigations as required.

• Prepares case files; testifies and presents evidence in court.

• Works with other law enforcement agencies in matters related to the investigation of crimes and apprehension of offenders.

• May serve as special duty officer as assigned, including responsibilities such as serving on the narcotics task force, serving as Deputy Coroner, providing court security, serving as school resource officer, serving as K-9 handler, serving on gang task force, etc.

• Participates in other special projects and programs as assigned.

• Performs duties related to crime prevention and community relations.

• Performs general administrative work, including but not limited to attending meetings, preparing correspondence and reports, entering computer data, maintaining files, answering the phone, etc..

We are seeking two outgoing and community-oriented individuals to join our Public Works department as temporary, part-time and/or substitute Crossing Guards. This rewarding and impactful position safely assists school children in crossing busy intersections by halting vehicles through the use of mechanical signals and/or hand-held stop signs; maintains order among children waiting to cross the street at street crossing points; permits street crossing only when safe to do so; reports the license numbers of vehicles violating school crosswalk-related traffic laws to Community Services management personnel or the Simi Valley Police Department; and, instills an awareness in school children of safety measures necessary for safe street crossing. 

Pay rate for this position is $16.00 hourly

• Must be 18 years of age or older, have open availability, and be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Hearing levels meeting these requirements in the better ear either with or without a hearing aid will be acceptable. • Must possess corrected vision of 20/40 minimum, with no color blindness.

The Security Manager plays a pivotal role in overseeing and coordinating organization-wide security services at Valley Water. Reporting to the Assistant Officer of Emergency, Security & Safety, this mid-management position is responsible for planning, managing, and executing strategic security initiatives to protect Valley Water's infrastructure, assets and staff, and the community. The Security Manager provides expert guidance, formulates policies, and fosters partnerships with local, county, state, and federal agencies to ensure the highest level of security preparedness. The Security Manager is entrusted with the strategic development and implementation of security programs, plans, and processes. This role requires extensive professional expertise, strong leadership skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
 
 Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Plans, manages, and oversees all functions, operations, and activities of the security unit, including contract security services, physical security systems and technologies, un-housed abatement, shooter awareness program, threat and vulnerability assessments and communication protocols.
• Develops programs, strategies, and solutions for security to ensure effective planning for accomplishment of organizational objectives, safety and security for employees, the community and Valley Water’s infrastructure and assets, including water supply and distribution systems, and compliance with all applicable policies, regulations, rules, and laws.
• Develops, implements and manages strategic vulnerability and threat assessments and mitigation plans to protect water supplies, distributions systems and all District facilities from including acts of terrorism; performs vulnerability studies and analysis of disaster and security response capabilities, including Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), Risk Assessment Methodology for Water Utilities (RAM-W) and Dam Assessment Matrix for Security and Vulnerability Risk (DAMSVR) assessments; assesses and determines appropriate level of security needs. 
• Leads efforts to explore new tools and technologies to improve existing physical security and add security assets to new facilities and property.
• Works collaboratively and engages with appropriate social service and law enforcement agencies to address un-housed abatement in Valley Water creeks and other properties; fulfills security requests to support field work.
• Administers contracts for security and security related services; reviews and evaluates compliance of contractor services with Valley Water’s contract standards and provisions; recommends improvements as required in procedures, techniques, and training.
• Provides staff leadership, oversight, guidance, and daily management of assigned unit; develops and implements goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for assigned programs; manages budgets and forecasts resource needs.
• Plans, directs, coordinates, and reviews the work of assigned staff; provides staff and performance reviews and implements discipline measures and manages the Security Office on-call program.
• Oversees, makes recommendations for, and approves the acquisition of security system hardware and software purchases. 
• Develops and delivers effective communication and training programs and activities, such as the Active Shooter Awareness program, to promote security and emergency awareness and preparedness for Valley Water staff, contractors, and the community.  
• Establishes ongoing relationships with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, including the Northern California Regional Intelligence Center (NCRIC); monitors notifications of intelligence, information and alerts from the Office of Homeland Security, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Energy, Department of Transportation, U.S. Bureau of Reclamation and the Awareness National Security Intelligence Reports, as well as the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies and American Water Works Association.

The Yuba County Sheriff’s Department is currently accepting applications to establish an eligibility list for the classification of Correctional Officer.  Under continuing supervision incumbents perform a wide variety of support in two areas: corrections, in which incumbents ensure the security, safety and care of individuals in custody; and bailiff, in which incumbents ensure the safety and security of the courts and their personnel during court proceedings; and perform related work as assigned. THE POSITION

The City of Rocklin is hiring Academy Graduate Police Officers to join the Rocklin Police Department. Academy Graduate Police Officers will join the department and begin an 18-month program to earn their Basic POST certificate. An example of duties that an Academy Graduate Police Officers will perform under close supervision are:

• Assumes responsibility for the preservation of the public peace and the protection of life and property by preventing crime and enforcing all laws.
• Patrols an assigned area in an automobile, other vehicle, or on foot for the purpose of preventing criminal activity and enforcing traffic laws and regulations; issues citations and makes arrests as necessary; responds to calls for protection of life and property and performs enforcement duties.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Equivalent to graduation from high school, supplemented by 30 college-level semester units from a regionally accredited educational institution.

Licenses and Certifications

Working Conditions

Must be 21 years of age at time of appointment. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law. Candidates must pass a thorough background investigation.

Must be willing to work emergencies as well as evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Must meet physical, psychological, and background standards established by POST as well as ongoing peace officer requirements pursuant to federal, state, and local legislation. This classification requires wearing respiratory protective equipment at times. When assigned to such work, facial hair must be shaven when it interferes with the safe fitting of respiratory protective equipment. This classification functions as a peace officer within the authority and limits of California Penal Code Sections 830.1(a) and 832.

Applicants will be screened against the minimum requirements. Candidates who meet the minimum requirements will be invited to attend a Physical Agility Test (PAT). 

Those who receive a passing score on the PAT will be invited to a Structured Oral Examination.

The Principal Accountant will be responsible for leadership and oversight of fiscal management functions for San José Clean Energy (SJCE). The incumbent in this position will lead the Department's fiscal/accounting team and oversee all fiscal management activities for SJCE, including but not limited to the following:

• Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and business processes to comply with generally accepted accounting principles and satisfy the financial management requirements associated with long-term power purchase agreements;
• Lead the development of SJCE standalone audited basic financial statements and SJCE financial statements in the City's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report;
• Prepare quarterly financial statements (unaudited);
• Facilitate external auditor inquiries for standalone financials, City Annual Comprehensive Financial Report, and Agreed-Upon Procedure engagements;
• Lead the preparation of quarterly financial statements (unaudited);
• Analyze the impact of GASB pronouncements on SJCE's financial statements and develop accounting practices to satisfy GASB pronouncements;
• Actively participate in the financial planning and forecasting for SJCE with particular focus on validating actual financial data, proposed assumptions, and general feasibility of projections in the current and upcoming fiscal years;
• Manage external auditor inquiries pertaining to SJCE standalone financial statements and City Annual Comprehensive Financial Report.
