This position supervises the Network & Systems team. The team focuses on voice and data networking, telecommunications, radio infrastructure and overall storage and system administration. The City is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor who will be an integral part of the Maintenance Division in the Public Works Department. The Supervisor will work with the Maintenance leadership team to plan, direct and supervise a wide variety of tasks related to one or more of the Division's four sections - streets; fleet and equipment; buildings and facilities; and landscape and parks. The initial assignment will be supervising the landscape and parks sections. 

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

The Office of the City Manager provides strategic leadership that supports the Mayor and City Council in making public policy decisions and ensures the organization delivers cost-effective services that meet the needs of our community with the highest standards of quality and customer service. The City Manager's Office also serves to guide fiscal and change management, the building and development of our workforce, and the development of long-term, data-driven strategies to invest in the City's future. City Manager Foundational Strategic Support Focus Areas

Delivering Excellent Customer Service. Ensure reliable, empathetic, and solutions-oriented customer service to meet the needs and expectations of customers as they access and navigate City services. Key programs include citywide Customer Relationship Management system implementation, customer service network, and mandatory customer service training.

Closing Racial Inequities. Implement policies and programs to eliminate racial disparities and foster an inclusive, equitable community for all people to thrive. Key programs include budgeting for equity, racial equity action plans, and mandatory racial equity training.

Structurally Balancing the General Fund. Ensure long-term financial stability by aligning revenues and expenditures to sustainably balance the City's budget on an ongoing basis consistent with City Council and community priorities.

Key programs include hiring and retention, recruitment process modernization, and workforce learning and development.The Office of the City Manager is currently seeking to fill a full-time Deputy City Manager position.

The annual salary range for this position is up to $342,687. In addition to the abovementioned compensation, this position receives an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation. The final candidate's qualifications and experience will determine the actual salary.

The position of Deputy City Manager serves as a key advisor to the City Manager regarding matters related to the administration of the City and assists in the formulation and execution of complex policies and programs to fulfill the goals and objectives of the organization. The position will be responsible for a portfolio of departments related to one or more City Service Areas to assist the City Manager in coordinating, engaging, and monitoring departments, carrying out City Council policy direction, and ensuring service delivery goals. The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Traffic Maintenance Worker I in the Public Works Department! In this role you will have the opportunity receive on-the-job training in traffic maintenance. THE POSITION

Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of activities in the installation, inspection, maintenance and repair of irrigation systems and related equipment within City facilities; performs related work as required. An example of duties are:

• Performs daily inspection and preventive maintenance of the City’s irrigation systems; identifies any safety or repair issues.
• Installs, maintains and repairs irrigation systems; changes and adjusts sprinkler heads and maintains controllers; performs repairs on field irrigation computers, controllers, pumps, wiring, valves, pipes, and sprinklers.
• Monitors soil moisture and effectiveness of irrigation systems.
• Installs backflow devices; inspects and tests as necessary to ensure proper operation; certifies devices in compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Monitors and controls computerized irrigation systems.
• Works effectively with contractors on City-approved irrigation projects; seeks bids and/or estimates for proposed projects.
• Identifies, schedules, and supervises system repairs and installation of new irrigation systems; reviews plans and inspects installation of new irrigation systems; performs annual testing of systems.
• Performs Underground Service Alert (USA) markings as specified and according to accepted guidelines and requirements.
• Designs small irrigation systems.
• Plans and recommends materials needed for work projects; orders approved supplies and materials

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

          AND

Two (2) years of responsible landscape/irrigation, public works or parks maintenance experience, including experience in design and/or maintenance of irrigation systems

License Requirements:

• A valid California Class C driver license or higher with a satisfactory driving record is required at the time of appointment. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-to-case basis.
• A Work Zone Traffic Control Safety Certificate issued by the International Municipal Signal Association (I.M.S.A.), or successful completion of the Traffic Control Technician-CA State Specific Training Course thru the American Traffic Safety Services Association is required within twelve (12) months of appointment.
• A certified Landscape Irrigation Auditor certificate is desirable.
• Possession of a Backflow Prevention Assembly Testers Certificate from either the American Water Works Association (AWWA), or the American Backflow Prevention Association (ABPA), or the Northern California Backflow Prevention Association (NCBPA), or equivalent is required within twelve (12) months of appointment.

Salary Range:
Five (5) Steps: $26.43 - $32.12/ hour ($27.48 - $33.40 / hour effective 7/1/24)

Summary:
Under supervision, performs routine semi-skilled to skilled grounds landscaping and maintenance work; performs preventive maintenance of District properties; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Examination:  Candidate selection will be based on competitive examinations.  Test content will be related to the job.  A driver’s license will be requested for identification and admission to the testing area.  If there is more than one part to an examination, candidates must pass each part.  Candidates with passing scores will be asked to compete in successive parts of the examination.

• Written Test/Practical Exercise:  A written test and a practical exercise may be used, in addition to the appraisal interview.
• Appraisal Interview:  A job-related appraisal interview will be conducted to evaluate and compare participating candidates’ knowledge, skills, and abilities in relation to those factors which job analysis has determined to be essential for successful performance of the job.
• After the Appraisal Interview, the top candidates will be invited to a staff interview. All applicants will receive a written response to their standing in the selection process.

The San José Fire Department is looking to fill a Senior Geographic Systems Specialist position within the BAS/Fire IT division. This role will manage mapping projects and, when applicable, application development activities to support the mapping function. Under the direction of the Department Information Technology Manager, the key duties and responsibilities of this position include:
 

• Oversee GIS data management efforts, including Fire-specific layers, ensuring the quality and timely input of the data. This involves performing quality control and quality assurance (QC/QA) and assisting with hands-on data management to minimize backlogs.
• Coordinate with various departments and the Enterprise GIS team on Fire data conversion and consolidation efforts, contributing to the Enterprise GIS data repository.
• Provide geodatabase development and programming (SQL Server), with the ability to understand complex database concepts, interfaces, and the implications of different database designs.
• Assist in the development and management of GIS project plans, including defining requirements, setting tasks and resource assignments, and ensuring standards, deadlines, and quality standards are met.
• Ensure City staff using GIS receive necessary training and technical support.
• Hire and manage GIS teams, including GIS I/II specialists, cartographers, data managers, analysts, and vendors, to meet GIS project objectives and timelines. Build team capacity to provide GIS project support, training, map production, and analysis services in addition to data management.
• Perform analytical analysis with large datasets.
• Prepare and perform data modeling and create entity-relationship diagrams.
• Develop, document, use, and troubleshoot workflows.
• Troubleshoot software issues related to all GIS service delivery functions.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
