The Thousand Oaks Library is in search of a Library Assistant who will be a key player in the Technical Services of the Access Services Division. Primary Responsibilities:

• Instruct, coordinate, and schedule Library Pages or volunteers on library procedures; assist with scheduling and overseeing activities.

  • Acquisitions: place orders with vendors, ensure orders are received physically and in Sierra, the Library Services Platform; resolve damaged items issues; manage canceled titles; find alternate vendors to fulfill the order. Liaise between vendors and staff to meet the needs of the library. 
  • Perform bookkeeping tasks to ensure invoices accurately reflect goods received; post weekly to update the Fund Report in the integrated library system. 
  • Perform copy cataloging of physical materials, including books, DVDs, or Spoken Word, following existing procedures based on industry-established cataloging standards to update bibliographic records. 
• Ability to interpret general library policies and procedures and apply knowledge using sound judgment 
  • Establish, maintain, and update accurate records and files  
• Technical knowledge 
  • Learn and apply technical expertise in the cataloging utilities, MS Office365, and Sierra, the Library’s

The City of Lincoln is hiring for the position of Maintenance Worker I/II within the Streets Division of the Public Works Department.  Under general supervision, this position performs the full array of duties assigned to classes in the Maintenance Worker series including maintenance, construction and equipment operation work in one or more Public Works divisions; occasionally assists in the training of lower-level Maintenance Workers; and performs other related duties as required.

Maintenance Worker I

The Maintenance Worker I is the entry level class responsible for a wide variety of maintenance and construction tasks. This classification is alternatively staffed with Maintenance Worker II and incumbents may advance to the higher-level after gaining experience and demonstrating a level of proficiency that meets the qualifications of the higher-level class.

Maintenance Worker II

The Maintenance Worker II is the journey level class responsible for a wide variety of maintenance and construction tasks. This classification is distinguished from the next higher classification of Senior Maintenance Worker in that the latter performance the more complex assignments and lead responsibilities.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED

The Maintenance Worker I receives general supervision from a Public Works Supervisor.  Incumbents of this class do not routinely exercise supervision.  The Maintenance Worker II receives general supervision from a Public Works Supervisor. May exercise technical and functional supervision over assigned staff. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Include but are not limited to the following:

• Performs maintenance, repair, construction, equipment operation and installation work in streets, water, sewers, refuse collection, parks and buildings.
• Streets: Breaks, removes, crack seals, hydropatches, and repairs surfaces; digs, shovels, hauls, loads and unloads materials; operates jack hammers, tampers, pavement breakers and other hand and power tools; rolls and irons asphalt; operates trucks, backhoes, rollers, pavers, street sweepers and other construction vehicles and equipment; assists in the installation and maintenance of City signs, road markings, striping and delineators; paints street lines and crosswalks; performs concrete sidewalk, curb, gutter and ramp installation and repair; installs, maintains and repairs street lights; installs shoring and trench plates; monitors underground service alert (USA’s) and marks when necessary; conducts street leaf pickup; mows roadsides.
• Water Distribution and Drainage: Constructs, maintains and repairs storm conduits, curbs, gutters and drainage facilities; installs, repairs and maintains water mains and lines; conducts maintenance at well sites; monitors pump stations; operates jack hammers and other tools and equipment; inspects tools and equipment for safety and mechanical defects; installs and repairs water service connections, meters and boxes; performs monthly meter reads; repairs, installs and tests hydrants; monitors USA’s and marks when necessary; operates trucks and other construction vehicles and equipment; locates and repairs leaks in water lines; cleans storm drains, flood control facilities and inlets; operates sewer camera and hydrovac.
• Parks and Buildings: Maintains lawns, shrubs, and trees; assists in spraying of herbicides and pesticides; cuts, sprays and removes weeds; clears brush and debris; assists with planting and maintenance of landscaped areas; installs, maintains, repairs and programs irrigation systems; cleans and maintains parks and city buildings; assists in the performance of minor carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting and remodeling tasks.
• Solid Waste: Operates a variety of collection vehicles and equipment including front, rear and side loaders in the collection and transportation of residential and commercial refuse; drives to landfill site when vehicle is full and unloads material; evaluates and updates assigned routes; cleans, maintains and inspects assigned vehicles; maintains daily logs.
• Fills out reports and work orders; climbs or uses hydraulic aerial devices to top, trim, reshape, strip, treat and remove trees; operates airport fueling vehicles; responds to after-hours call-outs if assigned.
• Demonstrates a full understanding of applicable policies, procedures and work methods associated with assigned duties; may provide training to lower-level staff; responds to questions and concerns from the general public; provides information as is appropriate and resolves public service complaints.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. The need to lift, carry and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing 25 pounds or more is also required. Additionally, the incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions including wet, hot and cold. The incumbent may use cleaning and lubricating chemicals, pesticides or herbicides which may expose the employee to fumes, dust and air contaminants. The nature of the work also requires the incumbent to climb ladders, use power and noise producing tools and equipment, operate hydraulic aerial devices, drive motorized vehicles and heavy equipment, work in heavy vehicle traffic conditions and often work with constant interruptions.

Job Description

This position performs preventive, routine and emergency maintenance and repair of a variety of heavy and light industrial and marine equipment, related systems and components. The incumbent will operate precision equipment and respond to trouble calls associated with the Port's ferry terminal systems, boats, sewer pumps and other Port related equipment. The nature of this work requires sustained physical effort frequently under adverse weather conditions and/or working in confined spaces. The incumbent may be required to work alternative shifts in order to do tide-dependent work.

THE POSITION:
This benefitted, full-time position in the Cataloging Department performs original and derived cataloging for materials in all formats and languages; creates metadata for special collections materials; creates and updates authority records; compiles and reviews records for monthly authority control processing; interprets cataloging policies to staff; and serves as back-up for all copy cataloging tasks and other related duties in the Cataloging Department as needed. The position reports to the Librarian III in the Cataloging Department of the Collection Services Division, located at the Rohnert Park Headquarters.

TYPICAL DUTIES include, but are not limited to:

• Performing original and derived cataloging for special collections materials in all formats, local government documents, local author books; local musician/musical group sound recordings; world language materials and other materials in the circulating/reference collections lacking records; assigns Dewey classification numbers
• Researching names, birth dates, street names, etc. in the Library catalog and other databases to create and update authority records and digital projects metadata

The Maintenance Worker I will support the basic preventative maintenance of the air conditioning work group. POSITION

Supervise, plan and coordinate the functions of the Laboratory, Industrial Wastewater Pretreatment Program (WPP), and related environmental compliance programs.  Performs and reviews analysis of potable water, wastewater, stormwater and related materials. Ensures sampling, monitoring, testing, reporting, WPP, and other environmental compliance programs comply with Federal, State and local requirements for potable water, wastewater and stormwater utilities.  The purpose of this recruitment is to fill a current vacancy in the Public Works Department, as well as establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Ideal Candidate for the Laboratory Supervisor position will have experience working in a wastewater or water laboratory, with knowledge of State, Federal and Local regulation and rules. This person will be familiar with water, wastewater, storm water, industrial pretreatment and related programs, and have a laboratory background in chemistry and microbiology as it applies to water, wastewater, stormwater, industrial pretreatment compliance programs.  In addition to meeting the minimum requirements of the position, the Ideal Candidate will be an independent thinker who is well organized, has excellent communication skills (written and oral), and good time management skills.  Previous supervisory experience is very desirable as this position will be responsible for supervising, mentoring and counseling division staff and programs as necessary.

Plan, program and supervise monitoring, sampling, and testing to ensure WPCF processes, potable water production, potable water distribution, and stormwater runoff comply with State and Federal standards. Supervise and coordinate laboratory quality assurance and quality control programs; develop new methods of laboratory analysis consistent with Federal and State guidelines. Work with and direct outside labs or environmental firms on water quality matters. Plan, program and supervise the goals and objectives of the Industrial Wastewater Pretreatment program. Coordinate pretreatment program activities for the Sanitary Sewer Management Plan and Stormwater NPDES Phase II permit. Review and approve quarterly and annual pretreatment reports. Interpret and enforce regulations related to pretreatment, wastewater collection and stormwater collection. Prepare detailed draft budgets, assist in preparation of final budgets and administer adopted budgets. Monitor legislation and make recommendations concerning compliance issues related to potable water, wastewater, stormwater, pretreatment and related programs. Compile, sign and submit monitoring and compliance reports to appropriate State and Federal Agencies. Perform advanced analysis on data to provide information for decision making. Represent the City on routine basis with State and Federal agencies, and other public bodies. Participate in professional groups and committees and with the general public regarding potable water, wastewater and stormwater, pretreatment and related programs. Participate in the hiring, training, supervision and evaluation of subordinates. Regular and consistent attendance. 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Assist with studies to audit and improve plant operations; conduct and assist with tours and regulatory inspection; respond to questions and requests from the general public. Ensure laboratory and pretreatment shop are maintained in a safe, clean and orderly condition. Ensure that maintenance, repair and calibration of laboratory and pretreatment equipment complies with process safety manual and manufacture recommendations. QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor of Science degree with major course work in chemistry and biology or a closely related field.

Experience:  Two (2) years of experience conducting chemical or biological laboratory analyses including two (2) years of experience performing laboratory analysis of water, wastewater or stormwater. Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in pretreatment and environmental compliance desirable.

License and Certificate:  Required upon hire, possession of a valid California Driver's License.  Possession of a current California Water Environment Association Grade II.  Laboratory Analyst certificate within 18 months of appointment.  Possession of a current California Water Environment Association Grade I Environmental Compliance Inspector certificate is desirable.

Over the course of the program's 50+ year history, San José Park Rangers have worked to ensure a safe and enjoyable atmosphere in city parks. Park Rangers assist park users, provide information on appropriate park use, and educate visitors on park rules and procedures. As stewards of the City's natural and cultural resources, Park Rangers work to protect and monitor park lands, restore native vegetation, maintain rustic hiking trails, and educate the public on the cultural and natural history of San José. Park Rangers also maintain safety and security in our neighborhood parks and along trails.

The Parks, Recreation, & Neighborhood Services Department is looking for a highly motivated, personable individual with strong leadership skills and innovative ideas to direct and organize park personnel in day-to-day operations in the protection of parks, trails, recreation facilities and watersheds within the City of San José.

Work schedule includes weekends, holidays and evenings and may fluctuate depending on season or condition.

Supervising Park Ranger Position & Duties:

Supervises staff to include: prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.

• Evaluates training needs and workload balance for staff and prepares plans for implementation.
• Supervises staff engaged in park, trail, and facilities patrol, protection, or enforcement, and performs enforcement of park rules and regulations.
• Supervises and prepares and provides responses to park visitor complaints.
• Prepares and reviews written reports such as police, fire, injury, activity, vandalism, and visitor data reports; may make court appearances.
• Assumes responsibility for safety of subordinate personnel and park visitors.
• Operates light vehicles, radios, and other equipment necessary to perform Rangers activities.
• Supervises and performs the preparation and presentation of interpretive and educational programs related to park services to civic groups and park visitors.
• Recommends improvements and inspects conservation and resource management projects to maintain and restore the natural and cultural resources in City parks and undeveloped City park lands.
• Monitors weather and fire condition reports; may recommend restricting park use.

Additional duties may include:

• Performs and directs search, rescue, fire suppression, and other emergency activities; may coordinate activities with other public safety agencies.
• Completes equipment and supply requisitions.
• Provides budget input on needed personnel, equipment, supplies, and related items.
• Performs enforcement duties such as park patrol and writing misdemeanor citations; may make arrests of persons in violation of Federal, State, or Municipal rules and regulations.
• Supervises and provides cash handling services in the routine collection and/or fees from customers; performs revenue accountability and is responsible for petty cash receipts.
• Performs other related duties as required.

40 HOURS PER WEEK – FULL TIME

 
We are seeking a customer service driven professional with excellent communication skills to join our team as an Adult Literacy Associate. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a group of dedicated professionals who are helping to change the literacy landscape in Sonoma County. This position is part of the Adult Literacy department located in the downtown Central Santa Rosa Library. Spanish/English bilingual skills are highly preferred.

Under direction of the Adult Services Administrator and the Supervising Literacy Program Coordinator, this position coordinates and administers tutor services for the Adult Literacy Services Program (ALS), recruits and provides orientations, training and in-service workshops to tutors for various adult literacy programs, and provides on-going coaching and support for tutors.
 
TYPICAL TASKS include, but are not limited to:

• Organizes, conducts and evaluates orientations, trainings and in-service workshops for tutors of adult learners; organizes conversation classes and determines the schedule and use of the student computer. 
• Recruits, selects, supervises, supports and encourages tutors; plans and implements methods to both recruit and retain tutors.
• Provides tutors with all instructional resources and materials needed to work with the student and provides ongoing support to the tutor for the duration of their service.
• Plans and organizes events in support of the Sonoma County Library adult literacy programs; participates in public meetings.
• Plans and implements outreach methods for the recruitment of volunteer tutors such as providing information on our program to newspapers, radio stations (PSA), and sending mailers to service and business groups; follows-up on recruitment efforts.
• Maintains the literacy library with relevant materials for the ALS programs.

 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
 
Education: Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in education, public administration or related fields. Experience: A combination of education and experience that creates an understanding of adult illiteracy. Generally, this would be achieved by two (2) years of administrative or programmatic experience including one year of library or literacy experience.  Experience working with adults in an educational setting. Spanish bilingual skills preferred.
 
SALARY RANGE:               $35.20/hour to $43.96/hour
