ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Gilroy is currently recruiting for a full-time Senior Civil Engineer or Project Manager (depending on qualifications and experience) for the Engineering Division of the Public Works Department. In this exciting opportunity the incumbent will play a pivotal role in shaping infrastructure and overseeing key projects vital to the growth and development of the City of Gilroy. The Senior Civil Engineer or Project Manager will work under the direction of the City Engineer and/or the Public Works Director and will lead the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Section. This supervisory position will lead a team of engineers and technicians in the implementation of the City’s CIP, including the planning, design, construction, and inspection of a variety of projects.  Responsibilities include supervising employees, directing complex professional-level field and office engineering assignments, developing strategies and schedules for implementing the CIP, assisting with CIP budgeting, and playing a significant role in making a difference in the community!

Both the Senior Civil Engineer and Project Manager classifications are exempt, mid-management level positions. The Project Manager classification is distinguished from the Senior Civil Engineer in that a professional engineer license is not required.

Public Works CIP projects involve planning, design, coordination with end users, bid package preparation, and construction management.  Therefore, exceptional organizational and project management skills are imperative to achieve department and City goals. Additionally, successful performance requires the ability to independently implement programs, projects, and policies in conformance with generally accepted standards, including possessing thorough knowledge of contract administration, project management principles and supervisory practices.

The Senior Civil Engineer or Project Manager will manage assigned staff and consultants and assist with budgeting tasks within the Engineering Division. Furthermore, the Senior Civil Engineer/ Project Manager will provide and participate in critical team leadership to ensure that all engineering services, goals, projects, and initiatives meet the high-performance standards of the Department and City.

The Department: The Suisun City Police Department is a progressive and proactive law enforcement agency. As a result of its proximity to neighboring jurisdictions, the employees of the Suisun City Police Department remain extremely busy as they address the needs of the community. The Position: Under supervision (Public Safety Dispatcher I) or general supervision (Public Safety Dispatcher II)  the incumbent performs a variety of duties involved in receiving, evaluating, prioritizing, and relaying calls for emergency and non-emergency public safety assistance; dispatches appropriate units and coordinates response of emergency personnel; maintains, processes, and distributes police records; operates a variety of telecommunications equipment, including radio, telephone, and CAD systems; and performs a wide variety of specialized clerical duties involved in the preparation, maintenance, and release of materials related to law enforcement activities.

THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Public Works and Utilities is comprised of six divisions that work collaboratively to develop, build, operate, and maintain Hayward's infrastructure. The Department is responsible for providing engineering and transportation support to City operating departments and divisions and for implementation of the City's Capital Improvement Program, all while providing excellent customer service to the community.

• Knowledge of the principles and practices of land surveying, the Subdivision Map Act, Local Subdivision Ordinance and The Land Surveyors Act;

• Land surveying principles and practices as applied to preliminary location, property, construction, precise traverse, and precise leveling and topographic surveys.
• Plane geometry and its application to land surveying.
• Proper use and methods of adjustment of common surveying instruments and equipment.
• Operating surveying instruments and in making accurate field observations.

• Effectively supervise the work of members of a land survey party.
• Learn and effectively apply City policies, procedures and practices related to land survey work and to interpret legal descriptions.
• Prepare clears, and completes records.
• Read and interpret maps and complex property descriptions.
• Make a check calculations and resolve discrepancies in surveying data.
• Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
• Establish and maintain cooperative and effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

You have:  
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience:   Three years of increasingly responsible survey experience related to public works design and construction at least one year of which included responsible survey instrument work.
 
Education:  Equivalent to an Associate of Arts Degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited college or university and completed course work in algebra, geometry, trigonometry and drafting.  

License:   Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License. Possession of a California L.S.I.T. or Land Surveyor's License.

The City of Orinda is looking for responsible, courteous individuals who enjoy working in a hands-on environment, can work independently of supervision and have experience dealing tactfully and effectively with members of the public.  The successful applicant will work on a part time basis with a schedule which will include evening and weekend hours, depending upon programs, rentals and events.   

The Facility Attendant performs custodial duties related to the care and cleaning of assigned facilities, performs a wide variety of duties for events, classes and programs, including setting up and tearing down of tables, chairs, equipment and supplies and will perform minor maintenance and repairs as needed.

Must be willing to work a scheduled variety of hours, which may include evenings, and/or weekends, as needed.

Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes to enable the employee to safely lift, move, climb, walk safely on even or uneven grounds, or maneuver in whatever way may be necessary to successfully perform the duties of their position; ability to travel to different sites and locations.
