The City of Gilroy is recruiting for part-time Recreation Leaders II/III assigned to the Gilroy Youth Center or Facility Attendant duties. The main goal of the City of Gilroy’s Recreation Department is to offer excellent recreation programs that provide community members with a wide range of opportunities to celebrate life and community through people, parks, programs, and special events which are delivered by a team of employees dedicated to offering quality recreational, social, and cultural services to all Gilroy residents.

Under direct supervision of a Recreation Coordinator or Recreation Specialist and indirect supervision of a Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Leader II/III will assist, plan, organize, and lead the physical, recreational, and social activities of assigned recreation programs. Program areas include, but are not limited to, Adaptive (Special Needs), Adult, and/or Youth sports, After School Program, Cultural Arts, Facility Attendant, Senior Center, Special Events, Summer Camps, and Youth Center/ Youth Services.

When assigned to Youth Services, the position provides an opportunity to gain experience running recreation programs, communicating with parents, and serving as a role model for high-risk youth, gang prone or involved youth.  When assigned as a Facility Attendant, the position provides an opportunity to provide excellent customer service, support the facility rental program, and work interpedently. As related experience is gained as noted in the job qualifications and requirements, and with the recommendation in the employee’s performance evaluation, Recreation Leaders can advance from Recreation Leader II to Recreation Leader III.  As the employee advances through the job series the employee will take on more responsibility and more challenging work assignments.

Schedule:  Approximately 8-20 hours per week, including evening and weekend hours

 The position: Under the general supervision of the Campbell Community Center Supervisor, the Building Attendant oversees proper use and rental activity at the City of Campbell Community Center and other City facilities. The Building Attendant assignments include working special events at various City facilities. The Building Attendant performs basic custodial duties (moving tables, chairs, set-up AV equipment, set-up athletic equipment, moping, sweeping, empty trashcans, etc.), ensuring compliance of established rules and procedures for the use of the facilities. The Building Attendant work schedule is primarily during the late afternoon/evening hours Monday - Friday, and on weekdays (both day/evening shifts). Occasional week-day shifts may be available.

Responsibilities:  The Building Attendant provides customer service to community center renters, class instructors and the general public at the Campbell Community Center.  Opens buildings for scheduled events, performs set-up/take-down of tables, chairs, portable staging, dance floors, AV equipment, and other set-up equipment; supervises evening and weekend activities at the Community Center; performs custodial tasks (emptying trash containers, cleaning tables, chairs, and restrooms, sweeping floors, etc.) as assigned.  Building attendants are responsible for the security of the site, as well as providing good public and customer relations. Additional responsibilities, as needed, may be assigned.

Qualifications: Must be 18 years of age and equivalent to high school graduation. Must have a valid California Driver's License.  Must demonstrate the ability to work independently, follow oral and written instructions, display courteous public relations, and demonstrate safety and good judgment.  Previous experience in recreation, building maintenance, or customer service work is preferred.

The Position

The Facility Attendant will be responsible for opening and closing various City Activities, setting up/ taking down rooms for outside rental groups and events.

Essential Duties

• Checks facility use schedules and is present to renters during events
• Prepares, opens and closes facilities for reservations, programs, special events and public use
• Monitors facility user groups by enforcing rules and regulations, and securing and/or reporting damage or unsafe conditions
• Serves as primary contact for evening and weekend events, responding to customer questions and ensuring policies and procedures are followed.
• Provide customer service during events, answering questions and resolving problems

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: Graduation from high school, or equivalent

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Principles and practices for providing quality customer service; safety procedures and protocols; supporting facilities and events
• Use computer equipment for documents, templates, and controls systems
• Practice positive and effective oral communication with customers, outside contacts, and all levels of employees

OTHER INFORMATION

Temporary employees are non-benefited, at-will positions. Since the City does not participate in Social Security and is required to provide an alternative retirement plan, you are required to participate in the City's defined contribution retirement plan through Nationwide where 3.75% of your gross compensation per pay period is deducted and put into the plan. The City matches this 3.75% for a total contribution of 7.5% of your gross compensation per pay period.

COMPENSATION:
This is a part-time, temporary position. Approximately 20-25 hours per week.

The Position: The Recreation and Community Services Department seeks a Teacher’s Aide to assist in the pre-school classroom. Campbell Recreation Pre-School builds fundamental cognitive, emotional, social, and physical skills for children ages 3 to 5. Classes are held September through May at the Campbell Community Center.

Responsibilities:

• Assist with set-up and clean-up of classroom and preparation of art projects
• Greet children upon their arrival and check children out as they leave
• Supervise children in the playground area to ensure safe, injury-free play
• Set up and/or put away playground activities
• Assist teacher in providing a safe, positive, and fun class conducive to learning
• Other duties as assigned, which will vary by classroom and teacher

Qualifications:

• Training and/or experience working with children in a structured classroom setting
