ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy is recruiting for a Deputy Director of Public Works - Operations in the
Public Works Department.

Under direct supervision of the Public Works Director, administer, plan, direct the varied
operations within the Operations Division of the Public Works Department to include
Streets, Wastewater, Water, Trees, and Parks & Landscape. Provide high level and
complex staff assistance to the Public Works Director. Is responsible for establishing and
maintaining safe work practices for all areas of Operations and ensure compliance with all
safety, environmental, and OSHA related laws and regulations. Provide leadership,
training, and mentoring to Section heads and ensure that each Section of Operations is
meeting established goals, objectives, work plans, and deadlines.

This is an exempt, mid-management level position that must exercise competent
discretion and judgment in the performance of duties and interactions with others.

EXAMPLES OF FIRST YEAR PROJECTS
• Fully implement the new Computerized Maintenance Management
System (CMMS) workflow and asset management system.
• Develop and implement performance measures and metrics to ensure
accountability and efficiency.
• Provide operational support to the South County Regional Wastewater Authority’s $50M plant expansion project.
• Coordinate water quality and drought measures for the Gilroy community.
• Implement a pavement rehabilitation program to improve the City’s
overall pavement condition index (PCI).
• Evaluate current internal and contractual park maintenance services
to ensure services are efficient, effective and enhance the quality of
life parks bring to our community.

QUALIFICATIONS
• A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering,
construction management, environmental sciences, public administration, business
administration or a related field of study.
• Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in public works operations to include
experience in at least three of the following operational areas: facilities, fleet, parks &
landscape, street maintenance, wastewater collection systems, urban forest management,
and water distribution.
• At least three (3) years of experience in a supervisory level position supervising public works operations personnel to include making hiring recommendations, training, evaluating, and making disciplinary recommendations.
• Possession of certifications in the areas of water distribution, wastewater collection, urban forest management highly desired.
• Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer by the State of California desired, but not required.
• Possess and maintain a valid California Driver License and a safe driving record necessary to operate assigned vehicle(s).
• Pass a post-offer medical examination, which includes a drug test.
• Pass a background check for employment including a Department of Justice criminal record check.

DEFENSIBLE SPACE PROGRAM MANAGER – Wildfire Team

The City of San Rafael is seeking a Defensible Space Program Manager to lead the City’s fire prevention and defensible space program. THE JOB

The Defensible Space Program Manager is an exempt position that will lead the Defensible Space Program with approximately five full time staff and as many as 15 seasonal staff, and a budget of approximately $1 million. While not a first responder, this position will regularly coordinate, oversee and conduct defensible space inspections and interface with the public. They will address the needs and inquiries of residents in a compassionate, articulate, and reasonable manner, while enforcing the City’s wildfire risk reduction ordinances. The Defensible Space Program Manager plays a significant role in the implementation of the San Rafael Wildfire Prevention and Protection Plan and Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority (MWPA) goals through managing the daily operations of the program and providing training and subject matter expertise on adapting landscape to wildfire.

IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE

As an important liaison between residents and SRFD, successful candidates will be highly knowledgeable about wildfire prevention and mitigation strategies, wildfire behavior, and emergency management, while bringing a skillset of effective communication, leadership, and community engagement. The ideal candidate will have an ability to be influential and persuasive based on the best interest of the residents and can have difficult conversations with professionalism, tact, and compassion while still enforcing the City’s ordinances. The Defensible Space Program Manager will have leadership experience to oversee, guide and motivate staff and volunteers, manage a budget and successfully coordinate the operations of the program to have the greatest positive impact on the community.

In addition to the above competencies, our candidate should have:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with relevant course work (relevant experience may be substituted for formal education).
• Ideal, two or more years of management experience.
• Physical fitness to carry out the duties of the job.
• Certified Wildfire Mitigation Specialist Certificate (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire date).
• Must possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license, with a satisfactory driving record.
• The ability to successfully complete a background and reference check.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The City of San Rafael offers an attractive compensation and benefits program. The salary range for this position is $82,680 - $100,500 annually DOQ/DOE.

DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Position and Duties:
The Mass Care Executive Analyst (EA) position will work out of the City Manager’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM) located at 855 N. San Pedro Street, San José.  

This EA position responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Participates in the organization, administration, operations, and functions of the Office of Emergency Management (OEM)
• Work directly with Council Offices, City Departments and outside agencies to develop a City of San José Mass Care Plan
• Develop, implement, and manage a shelter inventory procedure for both City-owned and privately-owned locations
• Conduct periodic training for both City employees and outside agencies to ensure that the Mass Care Plan is implemented seamlessly during an emergency
• Confer with staff in various City departments on administrative matters and coordinates responses to questions and concerns for the City Manager
• Recommend and write procedures, oversee the implementation of program policies and procedures, provide training on program requirements and best practices and conduct continuous process evaluation and improvements
• Monitor and assist in the development of reports on how to implement state and federal guidance on emergency planning
• Assist in presentations and trainings on community preparedness, City preparedness activities, outreach and technical skills to operate in the Emergency Operation Center (EOC)
• Provide technical skills for identified tasks, such as EOC activities, communications systems, information technology systems, etc.
• Maintain administrative records, supplies, inventory control and tests of disaster equipment
• Perform other emergency management activities as needed
• This position responds to activations of the EOC

THE POSITION: The City of Campbell is currently recruiting for a School Crossing Guard position.

School Crossing Guards work approximately 15-20 hours per week during the regular school year. School Crossing Guards are assigned to designated locations in the City of Campbell assisting elementary and junior high school students to safely cross the streets.

SALARY: $16.00-$23.00 Hourly

HOURS: 15-20 Hours per week

TYPICAL DUTIES: • Assist school children to safely cross streets • Report crimes, violations, accidents, or injuries • Assist the public

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: • Must be at least 18 years of age • Must have ability to get transportation to different post locations in Campbell • Must not have any dangerous criminal convictions • Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions and procedures • Must be able to communicate clearly with city personnel, pedestrians and motorists • Must be able to work different shift hours, and all school year • Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions • Must have a sense of responsibility for the safety of children.

The City of San Jose is recruiting for a part-time School Crossing Guards in the Police Department during the normal school year.  Work involves providing for the safe conduct of elementary and junior high school children across heavily traveled streets and reporting problems requiring possible police action. Positions may involve substituting at different corners or a regular location assignment.  IN GENERAL, THESE ASSIGNMENTS ARE A SPLIT SHIFT WITH APPROXIMATELY 10 HOURS PER WEEK.  School Crossing Guards are required to work outside regardless of weather conditions and must be able to provide a uniform as specified by the Police Department.   Work includes outside duties and exposure to weather.  Work may include the physical ability to sit, stand, walk quickly, step up/down from the curb, reach, push and/or pull, twist and or rotate, bend, lift and carry up to 10 pounds, use hands hold and use a stop sign the entire shift, use other hand to stop traffic and use a whistle at the same.
