These are seasonal positions, limited to 1,000 hours worked within a fiscal year (July 1 thru June 30) that receive no City benefits.  Job training is anticipated to begin in mid-April with employment lasting through September.  Shifts will average 8 hours per day/4-5 days per week.  This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience working for one of the finest departments in the State.

This position is fully funded through the Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority (MPWA) and will directly support the mission of wildfire preparedness and mitigation, and community safety.

The City of San Rafael Fire Department is seeking customer service and public safety focused individuals to join the wildfire mitigation team. Under supervision, inspectors will perform a variety of wildfire prevention duties with a focus on one-on-one education via property evaluations.  The Inspector’s efforts will support resident compliance with City and State Fire codes.

The customer-service oriented positions will support the City’s and Marin Wildfire Fire Prevention Authorities (MWPA)’s goals. The ideal candidate will be able to connect and inspire individual action among our diverse community by explaining complex concepts in easy-to-understand ways.  Inspectors will utilize tablets and other technology to document findings and interactions in the field.Our highly qualified candidate will be able to work effectively in small teams or independently and clearly communicate wildfire safety-related information to residents from various backgrounds.  We are looking for people who have sound judgment and can communicate effectively with others.  They will need to be able to follow both verbal and written instructions, engage effectively with the public and work harmoniously with our team. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (may include but are not limited to the following).     

• Perform defensible space inspections in accordance with San Rafael Municipal Code 4.12.
• Investigates public and referred public agency complaints.
• Provide guidance to residents on suggested and required home hardening strategies.
• Provide residents with appropriate support resources and programs.
• Increase awareness, knowledge and actins implemented by individuals and communities to reduce human loss and property damage from wildfires.
• Reviews, evaluates, processes, and maintains a variety of files related to fire prevention activities.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

• Communicate clearly and respectfully to residents and stakeholders.
• Learn and apply City and State Fire Codes and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards.
• Provide clear and concise written reports free of grammar and spelling errors.
• Utilize personal computers, tablets, and related software including the Microsoft Office Suite, mapping, and database tools.
• Independently conduct fire (defensible space) inspections.
• Apply technical knowledge and follow proper inspection techniques.
• Be self-motivated, work independently to complete assigned duties and responsibilities in a timely manner.
• Interpret and explain fire prevention services, policies and procedures.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with stake holders to ensure that assigned fire prevention coordination efforts are successful.

Minimum Qualifications Desired:

• In accordance with State legal requirements, applicant must be at least 18 years old by the application filing deadline.
• Completion of twelfth (12th) grade and any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities in qualifying.
• Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.
• A background in customer service or public service.
• Ability to speak, write, and read Spanish.

Disaster Service Workers:

All City of San Rafael employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109).  Employment at the City requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect.  Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.

The City of Campbell is currently seeking candidates for our School Crossing Guard position.

THE POSITION:

Be an important member of a successful team of individuals committed to the safety of school children in our community. School Crossing Guards work approximately 15-20 hours per week during the regular school year. School Crossing Guards are assigned to designated locations in the City of Campbell assisting elementary and junior high school students to safely cross the streets.

SALARY: $16.00-$23.00 Hourly

HOURS: 15-20 Hours per week

TYPICAL DUTIES:

• Assist school children to safely cross streets
• Report crimes, violations, accidents, or injuries
• Assist the public

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must be able to get transportation to different post locations in Campbell
• Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time
• Must not have any dangerous criminal convictions
• Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions and procedures
• Must be able to communicate clearly with city personnel, pedestrians and motorists
• Must be able to work different shift hours, and all school year
• Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions
• Must have a sense of responsibility for the safety of children

The City of San Dimas Parks and Recreation Department offers a basketball league for youth ages 8-14 that emphasizes teaching fundamentals, sportsmanship, teamwork and fun. The program runs from December until March. Coaches must be available for practices two days per week scheduled between the hours of 5:30pm-8:30pm and games Saturdays, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (all times approximate). Additional hours for trainings and meetings as assigned

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

QUALIFICATIONS

Previous coaching experience and the ability to instruct and work with children are preferred. Knowledge of the rules and regulations of basketball is helpful. Applicant must be 18 years of age or older and must have valid California driver’s license and adequate transportation.

CASUAL RECREATION SPECIALIST/LEAD

Recreation Services Division has multiple program lead staff openings across many recreation programs and activities. We serve youth, adults and older adults and have opportunities for flexible working hours (i.e., morning, after school, evenings, lunch time, weekends, etc.). Individuals may choose to work one assignment or multiple assignments and flexible work hours are possible to accommodate school schedules and/or other commitments.

• Organize and lead activities such as arts & crafts, sports & games, health & fitness
• Supervise participants, volunteers and program support staff during programs/activities
• Take attendance and administer/organize other paperwork and forms as needed
• Issue, maintain and store equipment and supplies
• Suggest and develop activities as appropriate to enhance program/activity
• Interact and communicate effectively with children, parents, caregivers, volunteers and City staff
• Ensure the safety and well-being of program participants, support staff and volunteers
• Responsible for program staff development, training and supervision (i.e. staff meetings)
• Other duties as assigned

• Minimum age: 18 years old
• Two (2) years or two summers (2) of experience in specific program area (recreation, after school, health & fitness) or population (youth, adults, older adults, special population) identified above

• Possess a valid CA Class C driver's license and a safe driving record
• Bilingual in Spanish, Mandarin or Farsi
• Willingness to obtain First Aid/CPR Certification (paid training)
• College courses in education, social service, recreation, human services, etc. 
• Experience working directly with the public in a recreation or education setting.
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, Outlook)

• Provide excellent customer service, relating to a wide variety of people, situations and experiences
• Ability to work well with others in team setting or independently
• Assist with collecting fees, taking attendance and sign-in & out procedures
• Assist with program/activity/class set up and break down
