Under the supervision of the Security Services Supervisor, this part-time position is responsible for performing work focused around security services at any of the 24 Jose Public Library branches, and providing a safe and orderly environment for staff and the public. The Security Officer will provide security support to the Security unit at branches needing security personnel.

The salary range for Security Officer - Part Time is $27.14 to 32.99 per hour. This amount includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable pay. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates’ qualifications and experience.

This position requires afternoon to early evening availability Monday – Sunday. Shift rotation may be required every 6 months and will be based on the needs of the department. The Security Officer will monitor the flow of library customers inside the library building and assist staff with responding to Library Conduct Policy violations, as well as notification of dangerous incidents to the police department. The Security Officer will also monitor and respond to incidents on library property and the outside perimeter of library buildings and library parking lots. Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Interact with a diverse population of library customers and employees to preserve a calm, inviting, and safe community environment; provide customer service to library customers, such as providing general information and assistance.
• Patrol multiple library branch locations, including building interior and exterior to identifying and deter illegal activities, suspicious behavior or dangerous situations, while promoting a positive visual presence.
• Address and deescalate difficult, complex, or potentially volatile situations such as uncooperative library customers in a positive manner; determine the best means of solving security situations, including enforcing library procedures and policies to prevent conduct policy violations and criminal activity before it happens, warn customers of rule infractions or violations, and suspend violators.
• Investigate potentially hazardous conditions and communicates with Police, Fire, Ambulance, and other agencies as appropriate; liaise with the University Police Department and San Jose Police Department, as needed;
• Respond to emergencies at any of the branch libraries; Respond to medical emergencies and may provide first aid or CPR.
• Interpret and apply legal statutes, laws, departmental policies, procedures, and regulations.
• Provide information and write up incident reports; draft suspension requests; assist with documentation of activities and irregularities, such as disruptions, trespassing, intoxication, harassment, and other behaviors
• Draft, extract and maintain confidential, security-related records/information
• Provide guidance to library staff on library security procedures and appropriate incident response.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Patrols City property, watching for signs of intruders/ illegal lodging, vandalism, damage to property or needed repairs; reports necessary repairs or suspicious circumstances which cannot be taken care of personally
• Checks to see that building security is maintained and that building is secured.
• Handles disturbance problems, enforces safety regulations, provides information on security measures, enforcement activities and emergency procedures.
• May assist in recovery of materials, loss prevention, investigation of illegal acts committed.
• May request emergency police, fire, or ambulance services if needed.

THE POSITION
The Campbell Recreation and Community Services Department seeks Customer Service Clerks (Part-Time, Temporary Non-Benefited) to assist with daily job duties associated with the main office of the Recreation and Community Services Department. 

Salary Range: $16.00 to $20.00 per hour DOQ

Schedule: Mondays through Fridays, Approximately 8 -12 hours per week

Responsibilities:

• Answers inquiries and provides information to interested parties.
• Processes registrations, receives payments and issues receipts.
• Maintains files and records and processes mail.
• Provide a high level of customer service while handling routine inquiries and requests such as assisting the public in selecting appropriate recreation activities and processing registration payments and customer refunds.

Qualifications:

The Recreation and Community Services Department is seeing a Recreation Specialist to join their team!

Under supervision, the Recreation Specialist will assist in the planning, organizing, implementing, and marketing of a community service and/or recreation program and to provide technical staff assistance. For positions assigned to the Preschool program:  Completion of a minimum of 12 units in early childhood education and two years of experience as a preschool teacher.

The San Rafael Sanitation District is looking to fill a Professional Temp – Sewer Maintenance Worker position to join our team.  This is a temporary (no benefits available) that will perform a variety of manual and semiskilled tasks involved in the maintenance, improvement and operation of the City’s sewage pumping stations and gravity sewer lines. 

This position performs the following essential job duties:

• Operates light power driven, handheld and “walk behind” equipment and uses shovels, rakes, other hand tools, jackhammers, dump trucks in the performance of assigned duties.
• Performs manual and semiskilled work in flushing, clearing and maintaining sewer and storm drainage, pipelines, culverts, force mains and pumping stations.
• Performs or assists in starts, stops, inspects, lubricates and adjusts pumps, valves, motors, drive shafts, universal joints and flow rates at pumping stations.
• Performs or assists in taking chemical samples and adjusts rate of chemical flows.
• Performs or assists in removing and replacing pumps, motors, valves and related, and performs repairs.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

• Basic use of hand and routine power tools.
• Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Good customer service skills
• Good communication skills.

• Some prior experience that would include mechanical and hydraulic repair of pumps, gates, valves, and related.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The *WWTP Maintenance Mechanic I preforms mechanical, structural, electrical and instrument maintenance and fabrication of the Wastewater Treatment Plant, sewage pump stations, and related facilities.

Examples of important and essential duties include (but are not limited to):

• Performs work in a variety of trades including, plumbing, machinery repair, building maintenance, electrical troubleshooting, engine maintenance, welding, and rigging.
• Maintains pumps, conveyors, electrical circuits, ventilation gear, and other equipment.
• Uses precision and non-precision measuring devices in the course of inspection, assembly, and lay out work.
• Utilizes electrical meters in trouble shooting and control circuit repairs and 480 volt (or less) motors and wiring.
• Performs plumbing and pipe fitting of threaded, glued, sweated and welded pipe, fittings, and devices.
• Fabricates steel and wood structures from drawings and verbal instructions.
• Performs a variety of support level engineering, design and fabricating duties; makes required mathematical calculations; prepares schematics and diagrams documenting installations; determines supplies and materials required; estimates time and repair costs; assists in writing specifications; researches equipment and contacts vendors.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Senior Park Ranger Duties

• Conducts performance evaluations.   
• Assists the Supervising Park Ranger in the recruiting and hiring of new park rangers.

• Assists in the preparation and review of written reports such as police, fire, injury, activity, vandalism, and visitor data reports; may make court appearances.
• Operates light vehicles, radios, and other equipment necessary to perform Ranger activities. Serves as a resource on environmental protection and conservation; prepares, presents, and leads the coordination of interpretive and educational programs.

 

Additional duties may include:

• Creates, prepares and presents interpretive programs, presentations and displays
• Performs and assists in the direction of search, rescue, fire suppression, and other emergency activities; may serve as the incident commander during a serious incident in parks; may coordinate activities with Police and/or Fire Departments; may serve as the park liaison officer at a command post; responds to all serious incidents and crimes on assigned shift and monitors scene within appropriate departmental policies and procedures.           
• Leads park, trail, or facility repair and improvements; inspects and monitors conservation projects. 
• Facilitates and participates in the training and development of employees; may conduct information sessions or staff briefings.
• May recommend or make purchases for supplies and equipment; performs revenue accountability.
• May serve as a Field Training Officer.
• Prepares appropriate written and oral reports; may make court appearances.      
• Issues misdemeanor citations and as appropriate; may detain or arrest persons in violation of Federal, State, or Municipal rules and regulations.
