THE DEPARTMENT

The Parks and Recreation Department is the third largest department in the City and is organized by program area, with each program administered by a supervisor, coordinator, or specialist. The Parks and Recreation Department is composed of a Director and 22 full-time management positions. The department is comprised of the Recreation, Parks, and Building Maintenance divisions. The Parks and Recreation Department mission is to provide opportunities for physical, cultural and social well being; protect and enhance the physical environment; and ensure the effective and efficient use of public facilities and open space.

The Building Maintenance Division maintains 32 facilities totaling more than 563,000 square feet and over 275 acres of park land. The division provides janitorial, preventative maintenance services, and necessary building and related equipment repairs to all of the City's facilities, including interior and exterior work. The division also performs a variety of tasks, which includes moving furniture, set-ups, and many other miscellaneous tasks as required. 

BUILDING MAINTENANCE CUSTODIAN

Under general direction, performs unskilled and semi-skilled cleaning duties in maintaining City buildings. Depending upon assignment and shift, independently performs job duties or works under general supervision. Incumbents may provide limited work direction to temporary and part-time staff, and does related work as required. This is the experienced, entry-level classification in the building maintenance series. It is distinguished from the Senior Building Maintenance Custodian classification in that the latter performs minor structural building maintenance work in addition to janitorial duties.

Description

The City of Belmont is recruiting for a Full-Time Recreation Supervisor who will manage and oversee the day-to-day operations and programming of the Belmont Community Learning Center and will be part of the City’s dynamic Parks & Recreation team. Are you looking for an exciting new opportunity to work every day in a well-established preschool?  The Belmont Community Learning Center is a licensed childcare program that has been in operation since 1982, where children aged 2-5 learn and grow. The new Supervisor will be provided the opportunity to creatively update existing curriculum and services in a way that continues to meet the needs of Belmont’s youngest residents.          

Knowledge of the following is desired:  

• Childcare regulations and principals of licensed childcare program management and early childhood education. 
• Knowledge of various games, sports, arts, crafts, and other activities appropriate to preschool aged children.
• Knowledge of the stages of child development of basic first aid, health/hygiene and safety procedures and requirements.
• Knowledge of basic record keeping and budgeting principals.
• Knowledge of the principals of supervision, training goal setting, and performance evaluation.

Example of duties: 

• Plan, organize and coordinate the care of preschool age children by providing various activities and events at a childcare site.
• Prepare daily and monthly program plans and assign activities and events to staff members. 
• Maintain staff and participant files in accordance with departmental, licensing (Title 22) requirements.
• Prepare monthly site newsletter outlining activities and events. 
• Inspect the site and equipment to ensure proper maintenance, cleanliness, operation, and safety. 
• Observe children on a daily basis to detect health problems. Instruct children in proper health and hygiene care. 
• Coordinate and participate in cleaning and maintaining the facility and equipment. 
• Attend various school functions and meetings, in-service training programs and staff meetings.
• Conduct site staff meetings.
• Monitor and order site supplies.
• Prepare forms, records, and reports necessary to site management.
• Supervise, train, and evaluate preschool staff.
• Participate in Parks and Recreation department meetings, events, activities, and projects.

Additional Requirements:

All childcare employees must pass City of Belmont background check, which includes but is not limited to the Department of Justice fingerprinting scan and FBI clearance. 

Certifications:

Red Cross Infant/Child CPR and Red Cross First Aid certifications must be completed within six months of employment. 

Licenses: 

Employee will hold a valid Class C California driver's license and sign off on DMV driving record release form.

The Chief Maintenance Officer reports to the Director of Transit and provides leadership and senior level management of Maintenance of Way in the Transit Division — a dedicated team, highly regarded for maintaining SFMTA’s complex transit infrastructure. Maintenance of Way includes Administration, Cable Car-Propulsion, Cable Car-Track, Digital, Light Rail-Track, Maintenance Engineering, Mechanical Systems, Motive Power, Overhead Lines and Signal.  This position is responsible for developing and managing programs, policies, and procedures to increase efficiency of the daily activities of Maintenance of Way within the Transit Division. The incumbent provides highly complex management and policy support and may be required to perform duties in the absence of the Director of Transit. This position directs activities to ensure compliance with local state and federal guidelines, safety, and regulatory policies including leading investigations of activities directly related to field safety and overall vehicle maintenance. The position is subject to a 24-hour call-back during emergency situations including on nights, weekends, and holidays.

The Transit Division of the SFMTA oversees five transit modes including bus, trolley bus, light rail, historic streetcar, and cable car. Minimum Qualifications: 

1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university; AND

3. Possession of a valid driver license.

   Substitutions:

   Education Substitution: Additional qualifying experience at a mass transit agency as described above may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis for up to four (4) years.  One-year (2000 hours) will be considered equivalent to (Thirty (30) semester unit/forty-five (45) quarter units).

The City of Redwood City invites you to apply for the position of Program Leader II (Teen Referee Training Program-After School Sports). 

ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department is looking for enthusiastic high school students to train and work within our After School Sports Program as a flag football, volleyball or basketball officials.  On game days, youth referees will be partnered with an experienced official to provide mentorship and continuous training. 

Game days and times are Monday through Thursday, from 3:45pm-7pm. Youth officials will typically work two days a week. Officials will earn a referee certification and will be provided a referee shirt and whistle. Training dates will vary based on sport and season and will include classroom and hands-on instruction. 

Sample timeline:

Flag Football and Volleyball Training:

• Training Certification Mid-August – through September
• Games begin the last week of September – Second week of November

Basketball Training:

• Training Certification Mid-August – through September
• Games begin the first week of December – Second week of third week of March
• Referee certification and mentorship will be provided by local highs school referees association and the National Academy of Athletics.

Position Summary

 

Under general supervision, performs inspection, maintenance, trouble-shooting, repair, removal and replacement on all machinery, electrical, piping and control systems and associated electrical/electronic systems as required, including record keeping and written verification of work accomplished.

 

Essential Responsibilities

 

• Working with computers on a daily basis for work scheduling, work order entry and work order reporting on the Districts electronic maintenance system in addition to notifications and communications through email
• Interacts on a regular basis with vessel operations personnel i.e., Deckhands, Vessel Masters, Supervising Vessel Masters and also coordinates with terminal management
• Conducts tests, analyses and measurements as directed to diagnose any unusual, erratic or malfunctioning occurrence in any shipboard or terminal system or component (mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, piping and electronic control systems)
• Reports any unusual wear patterns, noise, pressure, temperature, or changes in voltage, current, cycles, resistance or any other indication of potential malfunction.
• Reports all safety hazards and corrects unsafe situations immediately where possible
• Records engine operating data, inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs and overhauls as directed for input into the electronic maintenance system
• Signing out in the electronic maintenance system the consumables used for any maintenance function including all information on old and new parts used for repairs or overhaul
• Immediately reports to supervisor any potential maintenance problem or condition which could cause a possible schedule delay
• Maintains all work areas, special tools and equipment used in performing maintenance function, in a clean and orderly manner
• Performs the functions of clean up, painting, fueling, oil changes, machinery space cleaning and other such duties as directed
• Adheres to the safety and health rules and safe working practices applicable to job
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with District employees, customers, vendors and all others contacted during the course of work using principles of excellent customer service
• Performs additional related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

 

Education and/or Experience: 

• Completion of a four (4) year apprenticeship program or approved equivalent as a marine mechanic OR four (4) years of recent experience maintaining and repairing marine high speed propulsion machinery (large bore diesels, waterjets, gearboxes shafting systems), pumps and piping systems, HVAC systems, Electrical wiring and motor controllers, PLC based control system, hydraulic systems (P-Comp and load sensing variable displacement) and other complex electronics and machinery commonly found in a marine environment
• Experience in maintenance and troubleshooting electronic engine controls are preferred
• Experience operating machine shop equipment (such as lathes, mills, drill presses, grinders, presses, pipe threading machines, band saws and all types of welding equipment) is desirable
• Considerable knowledge of electrical/electronic systems is desirable

 

Required License:  

• Must possess and maintain a current, valid California driver's license and satisfactory driving record (Operates District Vehicles)
• No DUI’s or Reckless Driving codes within the last 7 years
• No more than two moving violations within the last 3 years

 

Required Tools:

• Must have a full set of journey level hand tools to accomplish assigned work

 

Hours:

• Shifts are scheduled based on seniority
• The Ferry Maintenance Department operates 7 days per week, except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s day
• Must be available to work all shifts; some overtime maybe required to handle emergencies            

 

Physical Requirement:  

Requires frequent and extensive physical activities such as: lifting and manipulating up to 50 lbs., bending, standing, stooping, kneeling, twisting, climbing, gripping, and other movements related to essential duties. Work around fumes, odors and dust in an occasionally high noise level environment with appropriate personal protective equipment. Ability to wear a respirator and be fit tested. Must wear hearing protections when performing certain duties.
