The City of Patterson is recruiting for a Fire Prevention Inspector.  This position performs fire inspection and fire prevention activities; enforces fire codes, laws and regulations related to fire protection, prevention and safety;  inspects new and existing buildings and a variety of structures, sprinkler systems and alarm systems; conducts plan and specification reviews to ensure compliance with fire codes; enforces the City and Fire District's weed abatement ordinance; develops and administers the Department’s public fire safety education programs and public relations programs; investigates routine complaints of fire/life safety hazards; establishes and maintains a variety of records and files on program activities; conducts research and writes a variety of reports; and performs related duties as required.

ABOUT THIS POSITION
Under supervision of an engine company officer, the Firefighter responds to fires, medical aids, rescues, hazardous materials incidents, motor vehicle accidents, and other emergency and non-emergency incidents. The Firefighter maintains a state of mental and physical readiness to respond to emergency calls. The Firefighter participates in training activities, maintains fire equipment and facilities, performs public education and fire prevention duties, and assists in training reserve firefighters, as well as other duties. Firefighters will work with a full-time or reserve officer on 24-hour shifts as the fourth person on the engine.

SHIFT SCHEDULE
Firefighters will work a 48/96 shift schedule. Shifts may include weekends and holidays. Participation in training events is required. All personnel are responsible for 100% of the material covered at training drills, and will be held accountable for that information, including new policies, procedures and standard operating guidelines.

Firefighters are full-time employees of the Cambria CSD Fire Department and are eligible for membership in any benefits from any District group plan for health or medical insurance, membership in any District retirement program, paid holiday, vacation, sick leave, and other leave with or without pay, or any other job benefits accruable to a full-time permanent District employee. Firefighters will be IAFF Cambria Local 4635 union members and covered by IAFF Cambria Local 4635 M.O.U.

The City of Mill Valley is seeking a self-directed problem- solver with an entrepreneurial spirit, high standards of excellence, and demonstrated commitment to public service and program development.

Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Coordinator I – Aquatics Safety manages the City’s Aquatics lifeguards and scheduling, including lap swim, water-walking, lifeguard certification and JR Lifeguard program.  This position also supervises all lifeguards, senior lifeguards and provides key assistance to the Recreation Supervisor on all related matters (works closely with Recreation Coordinator II- Aquatics to support division goals and activities).

The Aquatics & Fitness Center is a 7 day a week operation.

Recreation Coordinator I schedule may include Saturdays and Sundays and is subject to change depending on facility and supervisor needs. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Recruit, hire, manage, train, schedule, audit, discipline and evaluate staff, contractors, interns and volunteers.
• Schedule and provide regular in-service training for aquatics staff.
• Schedule and provide regular class and certification offerings necessary to staff for the proper operation of a public pool facility.
• Manage and develop the swim lesson program to balance and meet the needs of the community and the goals of the Department.
• Plan, develop and implement programs and events.
• Evaluate the progress and effectiveness of scheduling and programming utilizing measurable outcomes.
• Coordinate with local police and fire agencies for emergency response protocols.
• Assist in the development of policies, procedures, contracts, and manuals for facility users and staff.
• Work with local organizations, businesses, school personnel, parents and community members in developing recreational programs and activities.
• Maintain all personal certifications and be available to lifeguard, teach swim lessons, and otherwise supplement line staff when needed.
• Provide assistance and guidance to facility users, anticipate and resolve problems, provide quality customer service.
• Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

THE POSITION:

The City of San Rafael Fire Department is seeking a full-time Defensible Space Program Manager.  The City operates an extensive defensible space program to help educate and motivate residents to take action to protect homes and property from wildfire.  The program includes full time staff and seasonal staff to complete property specific evaluations, provide support resources, and if needed complete follow-up and enforcement action.  Under supervision, the Defensible Space Program Manager will oversee the City’s defensible space program which focuses on educating and supporting residents as they adapt their property to living with wildfire. 

The Defensible Space Program Manager will play a significant role in the implementation of the San Rafael Wildfire Prevention and Protection Plan and Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority (MWPA) goals.  They will oversee the day-to-day operations of the defensible space program and program staff; support Emergency Operation Center (EOC) functions; and augment designated fire prevention and emergency management staff on strategic projects and programs. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (may include but are not limited to the following).     

• Oversees and manages the daily functions and staff of the City defensible space program under the direction of the Emergency Manager and Fire Chief in alignment with the mission of the Department, City, and Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority (MWPA)
• Manages the day-to-day operations and logistics of the defensible space program, including the assignments, schedules, and training of the seasonal/temporary staff.
• Delivers training and provides subject matter expertise on adapting landscape to wildfire in alignment with environmentally sound/safe practices and existing ordinances
• Address the needs and inquiries of residents in a compassionate, articulate, and reasonable manner
• Accurately and efficiently assess ignition potential of vegetation and structures using scientifically based analysis
• Drafts policies and procedures, plans, and ordinances related to wildfire prevention
• Represents the department through collaboration with multiple community-based organizations, partner agencies and varied stakeholders involving wildfire prevention and response.
• Supports the implementation of the San Rafael Wildfire Prevention and Protective Action Plan and Marin County Community Wildfire Protection Plan
• Compiles date and prepares reports relating to fire prevention, mitigation, and defensible space activities
• Reviews exemption requests and make recommendations for the Fire Chiefs approval
• Determine and manages enforcement and abatement action
• Develops mitigation recommendations based on wildfire behavior, structural elements and scientific research.
• Oversees the review and approval of Vegetation Management Plans (VMP)
• Integrate the Together San Rafael principals in program objectives, outcomes, and interactions with residents.
• Participate in the development and administration of department and City goals, objectives, procedures and budgets.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with relevant course work (relevant experience may be substituted for formal education).
• Certified Wildfire Mitigation Specialist (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire date).
• Two or more years of project and team management experience.
• Must possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license, with a satisfactory driving record.
• Bilingual English/Spanish desired, but not required.

DISASTER SERVICE WORKERS:

All City of San Rafael employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109).  Employment at the City requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect.  Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
