The City of Mill Valley is seeking a self-directed problem- solver with an entrepreneurial spirit, high standards of excellence, and demonstrated commitment to public service and program development.
Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Coordinator II – Aquatics Safety manages the City’s Aquatics lifeguards and scheduling, including lap swim, water-walking, lifeguard certification, community CPR/First Aid classes and JR Lifeguard program. This position also supervises all lifeguards, senior lifeguards and provides key assistance to the Recreation Supervisor on all related matters (works closely with Recreation Coordinator I- Aquatics programs to support division goals and activities).
The Aquatics & Fitness Center is a 7-day a week operation.
Recreation Coordinator II schedule may include Saturdays and Sundays and is subject to change depending on facility and supervisor needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Recruit, hire, manage, train, schedule, audit, discipline and evaluate staff, contractors, interns, and volunteers.
- Schedule and provide regular in-service training for aquatics staff.
- Schedule and provide regular class and certification offerings necessary to staff for the proper operation of a public pool facility.
- Manage and develop the swim lesson program to balance and meet the needs of the community and the goals of the Department.
- Plan, develop and implement programs and events.
- Evaluate the progress and effectiveness of scheduling and programming utilizing measurable outcomes.
- Coordinate with local police and fire agencies for emergency response protocols.
- Assist in the development of policies, procedures, contracts, and manuals for facility users and staff.
- Work with local organizations, businesses, school personnel, parents, and community members in developing recreational programs and activities.
- Maintain all personal certifications and be available to lifeguard, teach swim lessons, and otherwise supplement line staff when needed.
- Provide assistance and guidance to facility users, anticipate and resolve problems, provide quality customer service.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
