Class Characteristics

This entry-level classification in the Construction Inspector series reports to a Senior Civil Engineer through a Construction Coordinator in the Construction Inspection Section of the Public Works Engineering Division. It is characterized by the responsibility to learn and to inspect public works construction projects for compliance with codes and specifications. Incumbents' assignments, objectives and work methods are specified; issues of fact are referred to the supervisor; review of work is ongoing and responsibility for achieving work objectives rests with a supervisor. Incumbents' work will gradually be done on a more independent basis subject to occasional review in progress through questions/problems and consultation with the supervisor and the section head. It is distinguished from the next higher classification of Senior Construction Inspector by the latter's technical expertise, performance of fully qualified journey level work with a minimum of supervision, and responsibility to provide training and technical expertise to Construction Inspector incumbents.

 

Essential Functions

• Reviews construction plans, specifications, encroachment permits, and other plans affecting assigned projects.
• Participates in meetings to discuss construction details and resolves issues with contractors and other agencies.
• Conducts on-site inspections of construction materials, grade elevations, underground facilities, construction safety precautions, minor concrete structures, street light installations, traffic signal installations, traffic control devices, and erosion and siltation control installations to determine compliance with contract plans and specifications, and with city and other governmental regulations.
• Makes field measurements.
• Ensures conformance with applicable safety standards and regulations.
• Assists in coordinating materials testing.
• Identifies problems.
• Monitors the correction of project deficiencies.
• Identifies and recommends approval of necessary contract and/or plan adjustments to accommodate field conditions.
• Maintains daily diary and field records of material and quantities used.
• Calculates and recommends formal approval of appropriate progress payments to contractors for work completed.
• Investigates citizen complaints related to encroachment and/or grading violations.

Knowledge of: Surveying and construction staking (grade-setting) practices; standard construction practices including specifications, methods, materials and equipment; mathematics through plane geometry and trigonometry; methods and techniques of materials testing; soil types and characteristics; standard specifications and construction details book (both City and State); construction safety standards; OSHA and CalTrans Traffic Control Devices Manual; traffic safety.

Skill in: Driving an automobile on paved and unpaved surfaces; operating surveying equipment; and preparing field sketches.

Ability to: Evaluate quality of construction and construction materials; determine safety implications of construction techniques; perform mathematical calculations through plane geometry and trigonometry; read blueprints; read public works construction and topography maps and grading plans; determine and verify elevations using hand level and calculator; communicate effectively with individuals from a variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds both orally and in writing; resolve inter-personal conflicts; identify problems, evaluate alternatives and arrive at logical decisions; read and interpret complex regulations and technical documents, including plans and specifications; understand and use standard engineering and hand held tools used in Public Works Construction Inspection; learn city encroachment and underground ordinances.

Education/Experience

Any combination of education and/or experience that has provided the knowledge and skills necessary to satisfactory job performance would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skills would be: Graduation from high school and four years experience in a field related to street/highway construction; 60 semester units of college education in engineering, construction techniques and methodologies or building inspection may be substituted for two years experience in construction.

 The Accounting and General Services Specialist III position is in the Community Action Department. The Position

Locksmiths work in the Facilities Maintenance and Operations Division of the Public Works Department and install, maintain, repair, and service all the locking devices in County Facilities/Buildings, San Mateo Medical Center, Maple Street Correctional Center, Hall of Justice, Maguire Correctional Facility, Youth Services Center, homeless shelters etc.

 

Duties of the Locksmith include but are not limited to: servicing, repairing, and maintaining locks, door closers, and related hardware; maintaining stock for replacement of lock units and parts; maintaining repair and maintenance records, key issues, and duplicate key schedules; picking jammed locks using special tools; devising and adjusting master key systems; and planning lock security systems for County facilities.

 

The ideal candidate will have at least five years of experience as a locksmith in a commercial, governmental, or industrial setting, with preferred experience in jail locks and electronic lock systems. Familiarity with ADA compliance related to door operators and sliding door mechanics is also preferred. We are seeking individuals from the local Bay Area who have an interest in working for local government and bring relevant government experience to the role.

The Position
Under general direction from the Facilities Services Manager in the Public Works Department, the Lead Gardener provides leadership and direction to the landscape contractors; performs landscape maintenance functions; and operates a wide variety of landscape maintenance equipment. The incumbent is expected to perform the most skilled landscape maintenance, new installations, and repair work and take the lead in solving problems that occur in day-to-day activities.  

This position requires the Lead Gardener to work in person from Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. There is an option for a 9/80 schedule after the probationary period.

The ideal candidate will understand Green Infrastructure, with an emphasis on bio-retention areas to control stormwater runoff.  Additionally, the ideal candidate will have experience in installing and repairing irrigation systems including controllers, be knowledgeable about pesticide control, fertilization methods, and materials, understand different types of soils and plants, and possess excellent customer service and communication skills.

The Position
Under general supervision, Painters perform a large variety of painting and wall covering tasks on County buildings and property. The County buildings include but are not limited to office buildings, public hospitals, secure correctional facilities, and psychiatric facilities. Most work involves repainting and touch-up of interior and exterior surfaces in the facilities.

Working with a small team of highly skilled individuals to provide a safe environment for our patients, their families, and our co-workers, Painters speak with customers regarding their jobs; identify materials and time needed for jobs; purchase painting equipment, materials and supplies; calculate job costs; schedule jobs; and log/record work completed. Jobs may require coordination of work with stationary engineers working in the facilities or working independently. Painters also travel independently to different areas in the County to perform unassisted graffiti abatement on public property.

About The Agency

The Northern California Regional Intelligence Center (NCRIC) and Northern California High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (NC HIDTA) is seeking a Lead Intelligence Analyst. Qualifications

Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:

Education equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in Behavioral Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Quantitative Analysis, Information Management, Criminal Justice or a related field; and

Three (3) years of experience involving crime data collection, statistical research and analysis, and working with criminal intelligence automated systems design and implementation.

 

Licensure/Certification: Possession of or acquisition of a valid certification in Crime and Intelligence Analysis within twelve (12) months of appointment or other training certification that demonstrates qualifications that meet or exceed competencies identified in the Global Justice Information Sharing Initiative, Law Enforcement Analytic Standards Booklet, 2nd Edition: Law Enforcement Analytic Standards (ojp.gov) , and the Common Competencies of Intelligence Analysts, 1st Edition: Common Competencies for State, Local, and Tribal Intelligence Analysts (ojp.gov)

 

Other Requirements: Must successfully complete a thorough law enforcement background investigation/security clearance prior to appointment and obtain a National Security Clearance within the first eighteen (18) months of employment. The law enforcement background investigation and the National Security Clearance require successful completion of a polygraph examination.

The City of Sunnyvale is seeking a driven, tech-savvy, service-oriented, visionary leader to elevate and manage the Information Technology Department’s Project Management Office (PMO) Division while being hands-on in driving successful execution of projects. This Division focuses on project delivery, portfolio and project management, strategic alignment, business process redesign, Request for Proposals (RFPs), requirements definition, and analysis. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of program management, implementing effective governance to improve internal efficiencies and resource management. They have a strong passion for customer service, process improvement, execution of strategic initiatives and operational enhancements. As an Information Technology Manager, you will be joining a highly service-oriented team of technical professionals and leadership team who are passionate about our customers, community, and technical solutions.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Experience implementing or establishing a Project Management Office (PMO) or set of project management standards across an organization.
• Experience with PMI-based Project Management, Portfolio Management and Program Management Methodologies; PMP, PgMP and/or PfMP certified a plus.
• The ability to build consensus and help other departments uphold the standards and priorities of the PMO.
• Work experience with implementing major, complex systems or business process changes.
• Work experience coaching and mentoring staff and establishing staff performance goals and improvement plans.
• Work with various levels of customers to provide guidance on defining requirements and establishing project scope.
• Experience utilizing Project Portfolio Management (PPM) tools to provide oversight and management of all IT projects across an organization.
• Knowledge and experience with change management and how to help clients and support teams transition from projects to operations.
• Knowledge of LEAN Business Process Re-Engineering, Kaizen or SixSigma principles.
• Experience with establishing performance-based metrics and KPIs.

 

Salary: $172,706.00 - $215,883.00 Annually
