The City of Sunnyvale is excited to announce an opportunity for dedicated individuals to fill (2) regular full-time Maintenance Worker 2 positions in the Street Maintenance Division of the Public Works Department. This position plays a key role in supporting the upkeep of the City's streets and traffic safety-related infrastructure. We are seeking dependable, detail-oriented individuals with strong customer service skills to join our team.

Responsibilities include performing a range of semi-skilled and manual labor tasks, such as repairing and maintaining traffic signs, applying roadway striping, installing pavement markings, and removing graffiti. These positions also perform traffic control, completing asphalt and minor concrete repairs, and carrying out other right-of-way maintenance duties as needed.

Education and Experience

The minimum qualifications for education and experience can be met in the following way:

A high school diploma or GED equivalent, AND

Six months of experience performing duties comparable to those of the City's Maintenance Worker I classification.

The Senior Engineer, under the general direction of the Division Manager, leads and manages the New Development Review Team, overseeing the review and delivery of complex private development projects. This role ensures that development projects align with the City of San José’s and department’s transportation priorities, multimodal policies, and regulatory requirements.

The position provides technical leadership across the development review process and serves as a key liaison with internal partners, external stakeholders, and the public. As a unit lead, the Senior Engineer supervises staff, manages workload, and supports the consistent, high-quality implementation of City transportation policies and standards.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is the full journey-level classification in the wastewater treatment plant operator series. Incumbents independently perform the full range of wastewater treatment and reclamation and recycled water facilities and equipment operations and maintenance duties. Responsibilities include inspecting and attending to assigned areas in a timely manner to ensure the proper operation and maintenance of the City’s wastewater treatment plant systems and equipment. Positions at this level work independently, exercise judgment and initiative and receive occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise. This class is distinguished from the Lead Plant Operator in that the latter is responsible for providing technical and functional direction to operations staff and is capable of performing the most complex operations and maintenance duties assigned to the division.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED

Receives supervision and direction from the Wastewater Treatment Plant Manager or designee. Exercises lead oversight, including provision of technical supervision, assignment of work and/or the training of less experienced staff.

 ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City Public Works Services Department invites you to apply for the position of Utilities Field Supervisor in the Wastewater Division. The Wastewater Division operates and maintains the City’s sanitary sewer collection system and municipal stormwater system. SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Street Maintenance Operator I: This is the entry level class in the Street Maintenance Operator series. This class is distinguished from the Street Maintenance Operator II by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to workers in this series. Employees at this level are not expected to perform with the same independence of direction and judgment on matters related to established procedures and guidelines as are positions allocated to the II level. Street Maintenance Operator II: This is the full journey level class within the Street Maintenance Operator series. This class is distinguished from the Street Maintenance Operator I by the assignment of the full range of duties assigned. The City of Newark is excited to announce an opportunity for an experienced professional to join our Public Works team as a Public Works Inspector! 

Under general supervision, the Public Works Inspector performs skilled and technical inspection work on a variety of public and private construction projects, including streets, utilities, and other public infrastructure. This role ensures conformance with approved plans, specifications, permits, industry standards, accepted construction practices, and all applicable local and state codes and contractual requirements.

The inspector reviews construction documents, oversees all phases of infrastructure installation and contract maintenance work—such as pavement overlays, stormwater systems, and utility installations—and ensures compliance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) for traffic control. Responsibilities include conducting field measurements, performing material testing, maintaining detailed daily field records, and using applicable software to compile construction reports. The inspector coordinates with contractors, developers, and agency representatives to resolve construction-related issues and may provide functional supervision of field staff on assigned projects. All work is performed in accordance with City safety policies and procedures.

This class performs a variety of technical inspections related to the construction of public streets, parks, site development improvements, paving, grading, drainage, erosion, and storm water quality controls. The current vacancy is assigned to Measure FF and will function as a project leader and serve as a technical expert in the transportation engineering field with responsibility for administrative and technical work in transportation engineering, as well as for planning, design, and specifications.

• Manage consultant teams, including scope development, task coordination, technical review of deliverables, schedule oversight, and ensuring projects meet Measure FF budget and performance expectations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major course work in civil or traffic engineering and three years of increasingly responsible traffic engineering experience, one year of which was at a level equivalent to the Assistant Transportation Engineer class.

Other requirements include possession of a valid California Registration as a professional Traffic Engineer or a professional Civil Engineer as well as a valid California driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.

Progressively responsible related experience may be substituted for the college course work on a year for year basis. A master's degree in Transportation Engineering/Planning or a related field is desirable.

The City of San Bruno is seeking one Principal Civil Engineer with a strong focus on Land Development (LD) and Traffic. Those with experience in Capital Improvements Program (CIP) are also encouraged to apply.  The LD/Traffic and CIP Divisions are within the Engineering Section of the Public Works Department.   

Under the supervision of the City Engineer, the Principal Civil Engineer will manage complex land development, traffic and CIP projects and will coordinate the activities of consultants and junior level staff in a variety of supporting disciplines.  The Principal Civil Engineer will be establishing Division processes and procedures and ideally have strong delegation and managerial capabilities.   

The Principal Civil Engineer of LD/Traffic will be responsible for overseeing private development, encroachment permits, Public Works Engineering plan review of building permits, and traffic engineering and coordinate with transportation planning.  This position will supervise junior staff including three engineers for land development and traffic.  The City currently has several transformative projects including Reimagining Tanforan, YouTube, Crestmoor Development, and Engvall School Development.

Other duties will include supervising the review of private development and/or subdivision plans for conformance to standards and participating in the development of capital improvement plan and projects and may from time to time be responsible for delivering key CIP projects. 

The City’s CIP budget for fiscal year 2025-26 totals $137 million and consists of 118 projects, including the replacement of Fire Station 52, the construction of water tanks, water and sewer mains and pump stations, railroad grade separation, and transportation projects.  The community additionally passed a local measure, which provides for enhanced funding for pavement treatment and storm drain infrastructure.  The breadth and depth of projects within a medium sized community provide endless opportunities for professional growth. 

The ideal Principal Civil Engineer candidate will possess the following:   

• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in civil engineering or a closely related field 

• Possession of a master’s degree in civil engineering or public or business administration is desirable 

• Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience performing program management and/or project coordination duties in engineering, two (2) years of which equivalent to a Senior Civil Engineer. 

• Possession of a valid California driver’s license or the ability to obtain one prior to employment. 

• Possession and maintenance of a valid registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California, or possess Professional Engineer Registration in another state with the ability to obtain California registration within six (6) months 

• Municipal professional engineering and supervisory experience highly desirable 

• Experience in the development of standard operating procedures and policies

Compensation

The annual salary range for this position is currently $153,726 to $188,641. These are represented positions.
