The Yuba County Sheriff’s Department is currently seeking one full-time Animal Care Technician.  Under general supervision, Animal Care Technicians assist in the daily maintenance, feeding and care of animals housed in the county’s animal care facility including those subject to quarantine, injured or ill; assist with euthanizations; provide information to the public regarding lost or stray animals; assist with licensing, pet adoptions and community volunteer programs; and perform related work as assigned.  This class is a working level class in the animal care series. 

Animal Care Services is a division of the Sheriff's Department.  Animal Care Services provides services for the unincorporated areas of Yuba County and is located in Olivehurst, California.  Animal Care Services care for lost animals, injured and abandon animals, and a provide variety of services that protect both citizens and animals. Woodside Fire Protection District offers an exceptional Cadet Program for individuals interested in a career in the Fire Service. Cadets gain hands-on experience participating in training and public service events. Cadets work 24-hour shifts and ride-along on emergency calls.

Woodside Cadets will work and be involved in:

Emergency calls, firefighter training, public education events, fire prevention, station duties, CERPP, CPR/first aid training. They must also meet monthly hour requirements and attend monthly training drills.

The Cadet term begins in July 1st 2024 through June 30th 2025.

Essential Duties

 

What you will do:  

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
 
Feeds, cares for, evaluates behavior, adopts, redeems, and performs euthanasia on impounded animals.
 
Receives animals at the Shelter, isolating those showing signs of disease from healthy ones.
 
Vaccinates animals as they are received and administers medicine under instructions from a veterinarian; prepares identification collars and places on animals for accurate records.
 
Responds to questions from the public about animal breeds, temperament and adoptions;  advises public on appropriate choices for adoption and the proper care, treatment and control of animals.
 
Cleans, disinfects and maintains kennels and kennel area; performs dishwashing and laundering tasks.
 
Maintains a computerized log and record of all animals at shelter.
 
Reports any animals exhibiting symptoms of ill health or communicable disease.
 
Maintains inventories and supplies of food, medicines and controlled drugs, completing the necessary forms.

Assists in supervising volunteers.
 
Lifts and loads animals weighing up to seventy-five pounds.
 
Performs related tasks as required.

Minimum Qualifications

 

You have:  

Any combination equivalent to experience and training that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:  

Experience:   Six (6) months experience involving customer contact and six months experience in handling animals.
 
Education:  Equivalent to completion of twelfth (12th) Grade or High School equivalency.

License:    Possession and maintenance of a valid Class C California Driver's License.

The Position

The Veterinary Technician will assist in the care of animal patients at the City’s animal shelter. Additional key responsibilities include use of medical care equipment, as well as moving and handling domestic animals and wildlife. The Veterinary Technician reports to the Animal Services Manager and assists the veterinarian, animal services officers and administrative team and is responsible for quality humane treatment of all animals in the care of the Tri-City Animal Shelter. Under the supervision of the Building/Code Compliance Coordinator and the Chief Building Official/Senior Plans Examiner, the Building/Code Compliance Inspector performs work in the areas of building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, energy, green, zoning, and residential fire protection inspections; various aspects of code enforcement; and other duties as assigned.

 

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS

This is the journey-level, professional class that is expected to read plans, make code interpretations, have comprehensive knowledge of construction materials and techniques, and be able to perform field inspections (both Building and Code Enforcement) on their own.

This position is distinguished from the next higher class of Senior Building/Code Compliance Inspector by the latter providing training, technical advice, and lead assistance to incumbent inspectors. The Building/Code Compliance Inspector is further distinguished from the lower level of Building/Code Compliance Trainee in that the latter is the entry-level class, and is in training, learning the full scope of the assigned duties and responsibilities.
