The Department: 

The Water and Sewer Utilities Department is a utility enterprise that provides planning, design, construction, maintenance, and operation of the City's water distribution system, sewer collection system, and recycled water system. The Position: 

The Utility Crew Supervisor is a lead supervisory classification in the Water and Sewer Utility Department. An incumbent in this classification is responsible for performing the most difficult and responsible technical duties and supervising the work of an assigned crew in a specialty area such as water construction and maintenance, water meter testing and maintenance, and sewer system maintenance. The Utility Crew Supervisor is distinguished from the Assistant Water Superintendent in that the latter is responsible for overseeing a Program in the Water Construction, Maintenance, and Operations Division.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Education Requirements: 

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED.

Minimum Experience Requirements: 

Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in construction, maintenance, or operations with a public or private water or sewer utility organization.

License/Certifications: 

• A valid Water Distribution System Operator Certificate (Grade D-2 or above) issued by the California Department of Health Services is required at time of application and for the duration of employment.
• A valid California Class C driver's license is required at time of appointment and for the duration of employment.

The following are required when assigned to the water construction and maintenance or sewer system maintenance specialties:

• A valid California Class A or B Commercial driver's license is required at time of application and for the duration of employment.
• A valid Collection System Maintenance Certificate (Grade 2 or above) issued by the California Water Environment Association is required within twelve (12) months of appointment and for the duration of employment.

The following is required when assigned to the water meter testing and maintenance specialty:

• A valid Backflow Prevention Tester Certificate issued by the California-Nevada Section of the American Water Works Association or the Foundation for Cross Connection Control and Hydraulic Research is required within twelve (12) months of appointment and for the duration of employment.

Desirable Qualifications: 

Depending on position assignment, qualifying experience may be required in one of the following specialty areas: water construction and maintenance, water meter testing and maintenance, or sewer system maintenance. 

Other Requirements:  

• May be required to work unusual hours in emergency situations and to be available on an "on-call" basis as assigned.
• May be subject to drug and/or alcohol testing as mandated by federal regulations.

THE POSITION

The City Attorney's Office seeks a well-qualified, motivated attorney for the position of Assistant City Attorney. This is an at-will position that serves as part of the City's executive management team.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The Department

The Human Services Department (HSD) delivers and supports services by forging long-term community partnerships; engaging with and building the capacity of the community to do its own problem- solving; and leveraging financial and volunteer resources.  The Aging and Family Services Division (AFS) of HSD specifically supports older residents and their caregivers to live active, healthy lives in the Tri-City community.

As a member of the HSD assigned to the AFS, the Senior Program Coordinator will organize, coordinate, and implement community wellness programs for older adults. The Community Programs include health promotion activities such as health screenings, wellness classes, and educational activities. The Office of Retirement Services (ORS) oversees the investment of assets and administers the benefits of the two Defined Benefit Retirement Plans for the City of San Jose Employees. One plan is for the sworn police and fire employees called the Police and Fire Department Retirement Plan. The other plan is for all other eligible City employees called Federated City Employees' Retirement System. The assets of the two plans total over $8.0 billion. As of June 30, 2023, there were close to 7,200 retirees and beneficiaries, and close to 5,750 active employees in the two retirement plans. Each of the retirement plans has a Board of Administration that has fiduciary responsibility over their respective retirement plan. The ORS staff has accountability to them as well as City Administration. Retirement Services is seeking qualified candidates for a Senior Analyst position in the Benefits Division. The position will be responsible for the administration of retirement benefits for active and retired members of two retirement plans and ten retirement tiers.

The City of Gilroy is recruiting for enthusiastic and energetic Office Assistant I to support our newly established Utilities Department. This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of something groundbreaking for our agency and for the Gilroy community. As an Office Assistant, you will play a pivotal role in the day-to-day operations and be the backbone for all administrative efforts and providing stellar support for the team. The Office Assistant will work under the direct supervision of the Utilities Director and will also assist the Management Analyst with data quality and reporting. The Office Assistant must be highly organized, detailed oriented, and efficient and effective with the use of their time. Additionally, the person filling this position must be self-motivated, self-directed, committed to providing quality results.  The work environment is both supportive and fast paced. Having an approachable and friendly demeanor along with excellent customer service skills is vital to this position.
