SENIOR TRANSPORTATION ENGINEER

The Organization

The Public Works, Transportation Engineering Division plans and operates a multi-modal transportation system with safe and convenient choices for walking, bicycling, driving and using transit, through local actions, and in coordination with regional and state transportation agencies. Our work is guided by a City adopted Mobility Action Plan, Vision Zero Action Plan and in Coordination with the City's Mobility Commission. 

The City is currently developing its first Active Transportation Plan (ATP), which updates and consolidates its previous Bicycle Master Plan and Pedestrian Master Plan and provides guidance for its active transportation programs for the next five years.

The Position

The Senior Transportation Engineer plays a key role in implementing Fremont's General Plan vision to be "a national model of how an auto-oriented suburb can evolve into a sustainable, strategically urban, modern city." Specific City goals and current projects include implementing the "Vision Zero" traffic safety improvement program, transforming Fremont's transportation corridors into "complete streets" that are safe, comfortable, and convenient for all travel modes and users of "All Ages and Abilities", reducing the number of vehicle miles traveled, expanding available transit services, modernizing the City's traffic signal system, upgrading State Highway corridors, and supporting new innovations in transportation technology.

In 2019, the City completed a Mobility Action Plan and formed a Mobility Commission to assist with plan implementation. Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate will typically possess the following:

In this role, you will provide lead direction and conduct complex projects in the area of Transportation, Land Use, or Rent Stabilization. The current vacancy is in the Transportation Division of the Public Works Department.

As a Senior Planner in Transportation, you will lead the Vision Zero Program, aiming to eliminate severe injury and fatality traffic crashes by 2028. With the support of an Associate Planner (Vision Zero Program Coordinator), you will be responsible for managing program elements outlined in the Berkeley Vision Zero Action Plan, including administration, interdepartmental and interagency coordination, capital projects, and public awareness initiatives. In the Land Use Division of the Planning and Development Department, the Senior Planner is responsible for managing complex and large projects, including General Plan updates, plans focused on Berkeley’s Priority Development Areas, Zoning Ordinance amendments, grant-funded projects, and State-mandated reports and projects.

When assigned to the Rent Stabilization Board, the Senior Planner leads projects and programs associated with Berkeley’s Rent Ordinance, which regulates most residential rents in Berkeley, protects tenants against unwarranted evictions, and is intended to maintain affordable housing and preserve community diversity.

The City of Berkeley is seeking a Housing Development Specialist (Community Development Project Coordinator)! Prepares, reviews, and maintains a variety of project-related information and documentation, including project schedules, Statements of Work (SOWs), status reports, detailing issues, risks, and deliverables; monitors agreements and projects for compliance with relevant codes, ordinances, rules, and regulations.
Attends and participates in professional group meetings and committees; stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of project management and market research. Provides technical and functional direction to professional, technical, and contract staff and participates in the formation, planning, review, and management of assigned projects.

Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in a field directly related to the area to which assigned.
For the Finance Systems Project Manager position the following are applicable fields of study: business administration, public administration, accounting, finance, management information systems, or a related field.

Experience: Eight (8) years of experience in the professional field required by the assigned special projects. The Finance Systems Project Manager position requires accounting support experience utilizing and supporting financial systems and/or two (2) years that involved responsibilities at a level equivalent to the District's classification of Project Manager II. Years of experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a two for one basis (two years experience may be submitted for one year of education).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Physical Requirements: Must maintain the physical condition necessary to perform tasks in an office setting operating a computer, keyboard, and other peripheral equipment; safely drive a District automobile; and walk, stand, and climb short distances in construction settings in order to inspect the progress of assigned projects.
