The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Administrative Assistant in the City Manager's Office! In this role, you will have the opportunity to develop thorough knowledge of citywide policies and procedures in order to support core functions in your assigned department.

In addition to office support, you'll be responsible for a wide variety of complex, non-routine support functions that may involve researching complex information, analyzing and compiling data, reviewing documents, and assisting with budgets. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:
Equivalent to graduation from high school and four (4) years of progressively responsible staff support work.

Applicants must have satisfactorily completed three (3) semester units or four (4) quarter units of college course work in business, public administration, or related subjects, plus be enrolled in a second elementary college-level related course which must be completed before the end of probation and must complete three (3) semester or (4) quarter units of college course work in related subjects within one (1) year of appointment.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Accountant I

Accountant II

This is the full journey-level classification in the series. Positions at this level are distinguished from the I-level by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned, working independently, and exercising judgment and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Successful performance of the work requires thorough knowledge of governmental accounting practices and procedures, fund accounting, and fiscal management.

The positions in the Accountant class series are flexibly staffed. The City of Sunnyvale is searching for a Budget Manager in the Department of Finance. The Budget Manager is a division-level manager responsible for developing, administering, and overseeing the City's sophisticated Operating and Capital Budgets and Twenty-Year Financial Plans. DEFINITION

PC/LAN Technician I: Under supervision, performs skilled technical work on the City’s Personal Computers and Local Area Network, and network servers, including hardware, software and peripherals, and performs other duties as assigned.

PC/LAN Technician II: Under general supervision, performs complex technical work on the City’s Personal Computers and Local Area Network, and networks servers, including hardware, software, and peripherals, may supervise the work of lower level staff, and perform other duties as assigned. Positions in this class require frequent use of a high degree of independent judgment and interpretative ability. Duties do not always follow standard routines; the employee recommends changes in methods and procedures when necessary. The class is required to have operating knowledge of computer systems and greater overall experience.

Positions in the PC/LAN Technician II classification are flexibly staffed and normally filled from advancement from the PC/LAN Technician I class, or when filled from the outside, require specific technology experience. Appointment to this class requires the employee to be performing substantially the full range of PC/LAN Technician duties and to meet the qualifications for the class. The class requires the ability to work independently exercising judgment and initiative and a greater knowledge of the City’s computer systems.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Analyzes, troubleshoots, and repairs computer systems and peripherals; provides end- user support for hardware and desktop applications; assists end-users in understanding personal computer functions and software application features; installs, replaces, and upgrades personal computer hardware, software and peripherals; may assist in developing and presenting training programs for end users; provides day-to-day support and maintenance of the City’s phone system.

THE POSITION:

The ideal candidate for the Senior Secretary position in the City Clerk's Office will be a highly organized and detail-oriented individual, capable of handling a wide range of administrative and clerical duties. Strong proficiency in office software, including word processing and spreadsheets, is essential for this role. The Police Records Specialist is a civilian, non-sworn position responsible for performing essential and sensitive administrative work in maintaining Police Department records, criminal information, and court documents. Ideal candidates will have both strong project/program management skills and the ability to effectively and efficiently communicate and build relationships.
 
The current open position is in the Department of Public Works working for both the Engineering Division and Traffic and Transportation Division. Senior Engineers are working managers. The position primarily works on capital projects and developing transportation policies related to the Climate Action Playbook, but may occasionally support land development engineering efforts for planning purposes.

Under general direction of the Assistant City Engineer, Principal Transportation Engineer, Transportation and Traffic Manager or Assistant Public Works Director/City Engineer, plans, organizes and directs  professional and technical engineering work in support of Capital Improvement Projects; performs a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility; and performs related work as required.
