TYPE OF APPOINTMENT: PROVISIONAL (TPV)

This is not a permanent appointment. A provisional appointee must participate and be successful in a Civil Service Examination process for this classification and be selected through an open competitive process in order to be considered for a permanent appointment. Provisional appointments may not exceed three (3) years.

Job Description

Under general supervision, the Tool Room Mechanic and Custodian is responsible for keeping, issuing, receiving and repairing tools and equipment utilized by the Airport’s Custodial Services unit; preventing minor losses through the safeguarding of tools and equipment; and keeping records of items received, issued and on hand; performs related duties as required.

1. Inspects tools and trouble-shoot equipment used in the cleaning maintenance program at San Francisco International Airport 
2. Maintains and repairs tools and equipment including assembly, disassembly, cleaning, ordering new parts and reassembly, including electrical and mechanical equipment.
3. Performs safety checks on tools and equipment.
4. Checks on tools and equipment returned for defective parts; orders replacements of supplies and stock items as required.
5. Repairs/replaces hoses, belts, electric plugs and electrical extension cords, on/off switches and replacing equipment fuses.
6. Repairs/replaces various wheels, filters, squeegee assemblies and squeegees on equipment.
7. Maintains custodial equipment through assisting/training staff regarding regular maintenance of janitorial equipment.
8. Performs and maintains custodial preventive maintenance program.  
9. Provides data to update tool and equipment repair database.  
10. Provides input regarding necessary replacement cycles and inventory of necessary repair parts.
11. Works in cooperation with current vendors and other repair facilities with regard to repair of larger pieces of cleaning equipment.

Nature of work requires some physical effort and dexterity in the use of fingers, limbs and body; intermittent exposure to working conditions where minor injuries may occur.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires completion of eight (8) years of elementary school, supplemented by at least one (1) year of experience in general mechanical maintenance and repair work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

The City of Patterson is currently recruiting to fill one (1) vacancy for a part-time Facility Custodian with the Recreation & Community Services Department and to establish an Eligibility List.

Duties include, but are not limited to: under general supervision, performs routine custodial and cleaning duties in municipal buildings and adjacent grounds; performs related work as assigned.

This is a part time position with hours up to 19 hours per week.  Must be available to work nights and weekends with varying shifts and schedules.  

The City of Patterson is seeking to fill one (1) part-time vacancy for a Facility Attendant in the Recreation Department and to establish an eligibility list.

Duties include, but are not limited to: under direct supervision, performs a variety of facility related tasks to ensure effective operations at the Recreation and Community Services Complex and related facilities and parks. Prepares facilities for use; works with users during events; provides set-up and arrangements for classes, meetings, and public and private events; registers participants for recreational programs; assists with cleaning and maintaining of Community Services' facilities including removing and disposing of trash, sweeping, and mopping of floors.  Provides staff support for recreation events and programs. 

This is a part-time position with hours up to 19 hours per week.  Must be available to work nights and weekends with varying shifts and schedules.

The Department: 
The Parks & Recreation Department supports a vibrant, active quality of life for all ages, abilities, and interests of the Santa Clara community through excellent parks and recreational facilities, community services, programs, and events. The Parks Division provides planning, development, operation, maintenance, and rehabilitation of City parks and open spaces. The Recreation Division provides classes and programs for all ages and abilities. We aim to promote the use of safe, clean, and attractive facilities for enjoyment and quality of life for all ages and abilities. The Cemetery Division maintains 33,000 internment sites in a peaceful public park.
 
The Position: 
An incumbent in this classification is responsible for the safe operation of an assigned swimming pool, including supervising pool personnel, overseeing conduct of pool events, ensuring  collection and security of revenue, and attendant record keeping.  Candidates must be able to serve a variety of ages, abilities and needs in participants from diverse backgrounds with tact and professionalism.
 
As an as-needed employee, this is an "at-will" position and there is no guarantee of hours. Hours are limited to 999 in a fiscal year or 960 hours in a fiscal year for retired CalPERS annuitants.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum Requirements
• Education equivalent to completion of the eleventh grade; and
• Three (3) years of experience in swimming pool management, swimming instruction, lifeguarding, or related activity; and
• Must be at least 17 years of age at time of application

Possible Substitution
• One (1) year of experience in lifeguarding and/or swimming instruction with the City of Santa Clara may be substituted for the required three (3) years of experience.

LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES
Possession of the following certificates is required:
• A valid American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certificate or Completion of City of Santa Clara Learn to Swim Instruction Program; and
• A valid American Red Cross Lifeguard certificate; and
• In accordance with State of California law, a valid California Work Permit is required at time of appointment for candidates under the age of 18 who have not graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate of proficiency

The City of San Rafael Library and Recreation Department is now accepting applications for the position of Facilities Attendant (two part-time/temporary positions available).  This position provides customer service to renters and program participants while assisting with the supervision of front counter/reception area, set up and breakdown equipment for scheduled activities, custodial and cleaning including but not limited to emptying trash, vacuuming, cleaning windows, cleaning restrooms, etc.; opening and securing facility before and after building use and interacting with instructors, clients, and the general public.  Bilingual in Spanish is desired.

THE DEPARTMENT

The Public Works department consists of approximately 72 full time employees and is responsible for maintaining and improving the city’s streets, parks, water and stormwater systems, traffic signals, trees, fleet and public buildings.  The Transportation Division promotes the safe movement of people and goods throughout the city by maintaining and enhancing a functional and efficient transportation network.  The division promotes the use of public transit, ride sharing, bicycles, and walking and manages the City’s 40 traffic signals, 2200 streetlights, and overall roadway network. They also coordinate the free shuttles, safety education, and neighborhood traffic calming programs. 

Public Works is responsible for building and maintaining the City’s infrastructure and facilities, and for providing many of the basic services affecting the daily lives of everyone living, working, visiting, and commuting within the City, including: 

• 26 City-owned buildings/facilities and their grounds
• A fleet of over 250 vehicles and pieces of equipment
• 97 miles of streets
• Drinking water delivery for 16,000 customers
• Flood protection and stormwater management programs particularly along the San Francisco Bay, San Francisquito Creek and Atherton Channel
• 14 parks, 2 open spaces, 14 playgrounds, 2 dog parks, 9 sports fields, and 14 tennis/pickleball courts
• Efforts to preserve and expand the urban canopy, including 20,000 public trees
• Multimodal transportation services including 42 traffic signals, safe routes to schools and citywide shuttle programs. 

The department has 72 full-time equivalent staff members and a nearly $40 million operating budget supported by over 25 different special/dedicated funding sources for the varied programs and services provided to the community. In addition, the City has an approximately $100 million capital program, in part due to a successful track record in pursuing grants from a variety of local, state and federal sources. Some of the exciting efforts on the horizon include efforts to protect the San Francisco Bay shoreline and adjacent community from sea level rise; efforts to eliminate the City’s reliance on fossil fuels through building and fleet electrification; making investments in transportation safety through strategic quick-build projects and large infrastructure changes like a pedestrian/bicycle undercrossing at Caltrain; and ensuring the equitable delivery of services throughout the entire city in alignment with the goals and programs developed as part of the city’s first environmental justice element underway.

THE POSITION

The Assistant Public Works Director – Transportation is one of three Assistant Director classifications in the Public Works Department and reports directly to the Public Works Director.  This position has oversight of the Transportation Division, which includes overseeing the division’s staff and operations. This role will direct and participate in major activities and programs of the Division’s functions including but not limited to transportation planning and engineering, and/or utilities sections.

In managing and coordinating division service for large and complex transportation projects, the incumbent will provide oversight and input into conceptual design while meeting with stakeholders to interpret and explain procedures, permitting, and transportation impact analyses. The person in this role will review plans and documents, providing comments for development projects associated with permits and environmental review requirements.  They will also prepare transportation impact analysis reports and transportation sections of environmental impact reports in accordance with local, CEQA and NEPA requirements. 

The Department: The Suisun City Police Department is a progressive and proactive law enforcement agency. As a result of its proximity to neighboring jurisdictions, the employees of the Suisun City Police Department remain extremely busy as they address the needs of the community. The Position: Under supervision (Public Safety Dispatcher I) or general supervision (Public Safety Dispatcher II)  the incumbent performs a variety of duties involved in receiving, evaluating, prioritizing, and relaying calls for emergency and non-emergency public safety assistance; dispatches appropriate units and coordinates response of emergency personnel; maintains, processes, and distributes police records; operates a variety of telecommunications equipment, including radio, telephone, and CAD systems; and performs a wide variety of specialized clerical duties involved in the preparation, maintenance, and release of materials related to law enforcement activities.

The City of Dixon is accepting applications to fill one (1) full-time position of Transit Driver/Dispatcher and to establish an eligibility list for future use.  

This position drives a Readi-Ride General Public Paratransit Vehicle (GPPV) on a demand responsive curb-to-curb transit system and assist patrons boarding and leaving the bus, especially the elderly, disabled, and school age children. May also assist in collecting information relating to the operation of the system; receive ride requests and organize the vehicle pick-ups and drop-offs; and, will work closely with the drivers and Transit Supervisor to ensure coordinated efforts.

SUMMARY

Under general supervision, plans, leads, assigns, schedules, and participates in the work of staff responsible for performing aquatics duties at the District’s aquatics facilities.  Assists with the day-to-day aquatics operations, ensures that facilities are prepared and maintained for public use.  Monitors activities in the water, pool, decks, and ancillary areas of District aquatics facilities to ensure the safety of patrons; explains and enforces aquatics policies, regulations, and rules; performs rescues and administers first aid, CPR, and AED as needed; and performs related work as required. 

Schedule: 30 hours per week. Schedule will vary, will include weekends.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is the advanced journey-level classification in the Lifeguard classification series responsible for providing lead direction and training to lower-level staff and for ensuring that the District’s aquatics facilities are maintained in a safe and effective working condition.  Incumbents are responsible for establishing objectives, timelines, and methods to deliver services.  Work is reviewed upon completion for soundness, appropriateness, and conformity to policy and requirements.  This classification is distinguished from the Lifeguard II by the assignment of more complex tasks requiring a greater level of technical and specialized knowledge and a higher degree of independent judgment, including serving in a lead capacity over lower level staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Management reserves the right to add, modify, change, or rescind the work assignments of different positions and to make reasonable accommodations so that qualified employees can perform the essential functions of the job.

1. Plans, leads, assigns, directs, and participates in the work of staff responsible for performing lifeguard duties at the District’s aquatics facilities; assigns lifeguard staff to daily rotation schedules, ensuring proper coverage at all times.
2. Receives and responds to questions, concerns, and complaints from patrons; determines issues and resolves or refers to Aquatics Coordinator or Aquatics Supervisor as appropriate.
3. Assists Aquatics Coordinator in leading training sessions, including safety drills and other emergency procedures; ensures that lifeguard staff attend required trainings and maintains records on same.
4. Provides aquatic safety and supervision for patrons; monitors activities in the water, pool decks, and ancillary areas of District aquatics facilities to prevent accidents and to ensure the safety and well-being of patrons.
5. Implements and monitors District policies and procedures; enforces aquatics regulations; cautions patrons regarding unsafe activities.
6. Performs the work of lower-level staff, including, but not limited to, all required lifeguard-training skills and class instruction as needed.
7. Monitors facility use; ensures that the facility is opened, closed, and secured in compliance with District practices and procedures and that the pool and restrooms are maintained in a safe, neat, and clean condition.
8. Inspects and maintains swimming and pool equipment for functionality; ensures proper placement and availability in the pool area; recommends maintenance and repair as needed.
9. Maintains records of participation and completes required reports.
10. Assists with District special events as needed.
11. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or GED;

AND

• Two years of relevant aquatics experience serving in an aquatics facility.

OR

• Any combination of training, education, and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. 

Knowledge of:

• Principles of leadership in an aquatics environment.
• Principles and techniques of all lifeguarding skills.
• Organization and operation of the aquatics facilities, including maintenance, occupational hazards, and standard safety practices.
• Relevant laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Licenses and Certifications:

At time of appointment, and maintained throughout employment possession of:

• California Driver’s License, with a satisfactory driving record,
• American Red Cross Lifeguard certification,
• American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification,
• American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification is highly desirable.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work is primarily performed within a public swimming pool environment, where stamina is needed to perform moderate to heavy lifting of pool equipment and furniture or children and adults who may require removal from the pool, and to stay in the pool for prolonged periods.  Must possess the mobility to stand, stoop, kneel, reach, bend, climb, push and pull materials and equipment, and swim while wearing an appropriate uniform with protective equipment.  Vision and hearing must be sufficient to see and hear adults and children in crowded and noisy conditions and/or situations.  Must also possess:  the mobility to work in an office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or by using a telephone and radio.  Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or to operate safety equipment.  Must possess the ability to swim distances and dive to pool depths, as determined by testing/certification authorities, and to lift 150 pounds or heavier weights with assistance and/or the use of proper equipment.

ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS

Incumbents work outdoors in a pool environment with wet and slippery conditions, and are exposed to variable weather conditions; may be exposed to chlorine, acids, and other chemicals at aquatics facilities, as well as blood and body fluids while rendering first aid and CPR.  Incumbents will interact with individuals in interpreting and enforcing rules, policies, and procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbents may be assigned an irregular work schedule, including weekends, early mornings, evenings, and holidays.
