THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Public Works and Utilities is comprised of six divisions that work collaboratively to develop, build, operate, and maintain Hayward's infrastructure. The Department is responsible for providing engineering and transportation support to City operating departments and divisions and for implementation of the City's Capital Improvement Program, all while providing excellent customer service to the community.

• Knowledge of the principles and practices of land surveying, the Subdivision Map Act, Local Subdivision Ordinance and The Land Surveyors Act;

• Land surveying principles and practices as applied to preliminary location, property, construction, precise traverse, and precise leveling and topographic surveys.
• Plane geometry and its application to land surveying.
• Proper use and methods of adjustment of common surveying instruments and equipment.
• Operating surveying instruments and in making accurate field observations.

• Effectively supervise the work of members of a land survey party.
• Learn and effectively apply City policies, procedures and practices related to land survey work and to interpret legal descriptions.
• Prepare clears, and completes records.
• Read and interpret maps and complex property descriptions.
• Make a check calculations and resolve discrepancies in surveying data.
• Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
• Establish and maintain cooperative and effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

You have:  
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience:   Three years of increasingly responsible survey experience related to public works design and construction at least one year of which included responsible survey instrument work.
 
Education:  Equivalent to an Associate of Arts Degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited college or university and completed course work in algebra, geometry, trigonometry and drafting.  

License:   Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License. Possession of a California L.S.I.T. or Land Surveyor's License.

San Mateo Medical Center is seeking an experienced Surgery Scheduling Specialist for a Full-Time, Extra-help position for the Surgery Department. The Surgery Scheduling Specialist provides technical, complex and specialized administrative support to surgeons and patients scheduled for surgery, which includes interaction with operating room staff and patients; handles multiple competing priorities; interacts with diverse customer groups; handles multiple patient-related tasks such as tracking patient financials to ensure information is correctly entered; and moves patients from the clinic to the operating room, including all pre-operative processes necessary for the patients prior to surgery, pre-op process sheets and clinic schedules, data entry of items into the operative database, financial reconciliation, and post-op order sets, and may have some responsibilities for ordering supplies or equipment.
 
The ideal candidate for this position will possess excellent communications skills, including the ability to communicate complex medical terminology to a variety of people with varying levels of medical knowledge. In addition, they would possess skills in conflict resolution, and problem solving. The ideal candidate will have the ability to work with challenging patients, and patients who may have a language or communication barrier. This position will require attention to detail, and therefore the ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.
 
NOTE: The ability to speak, read and write in fluent English and Spanish is preferred for this position.
 
 Duties for this position may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Tracking patient financials to be sure they are correctly entered.
• Scheduling patients in the procedure clinic.  
• Updating the pre-op process sheet and clinic schedule in the computer.
• Entering data into the operative database.
• Interfacing between the Operating Room and Surgeon.
• Ability to schedule patients using the OR manager program.

NOTE: This Job Announcement was edited on May 16, 2023 regarding the definition of the extra help assignment. This is an extra-help, at-will assignment, paid on an hourly basis. Extra-help hours are dependent on the business needs of the department and therefore work hours may vary from week to week. Qualifications

Knowledge of:

DEFINITION

Provide analytical, coordination and operational support within the Development Services Department; primarily responsible for transportation planning functions. Provides secondary support to economic development and special events programs. 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives direction from the Transportation Manager.  May exercise supervision over technical and/or support staff as assigned. 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Essential duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Implement and administer the Neighborhood Traffic Management Program.
• Assist in the implementation of other programs and projects within the functional areas of the team (e.g., Street Smarts, Traffix, SWAT, etc.).
• Serve as project manager on assigned transportation programs and related projects, which includes background research, environmental review, preparation of public notices and staff reports, coordination of meetings and hearings, and oversight of implementation.
• Represent Danville on assigned regional transportation forums, including committees and subcommittees of the Contra Costa Transportation Authority and Tri-valley Transportation Council.
• Attend regional transportation meetings and ensure the Town’s positions are represented; advocate when directed and appropriate; participate on various local interagency and interdepartmental boards and committees; facilitate committee meetings as assigned.
• Perform funding/grant development and administration, including conducting research, identifying regional, state, and federal funding sources, writing proposals, preparing grant applications, and programming and administering awarded grant funds.

Experience:

Two (2) years of full-time or four (4) years of part-time related professional experience, with a background in transportation, planning, traffic engineering, or public administration.  Public sector experience desirable.

Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, civil engineering, architecture, public administration, or closely related field. 

LICENSE(S) AND CERTIFICATION(S)

Possession of a valid California State Driver's License, or license in another state with the ability to obtain a California license within 30 days of hire.

THE POSITION

Assistant and Associate Engineering Technicians perform office and field engineering functions in connection with public works activities. The current vacancy is assigned to Construction Inspection and will perform field inspections of public works projects, developments, and activities requiring permits and inspection; and inspects grading, underground utilities, City water mains, sewers, storm drains, curbs, gutters, paving, irrigation systems, streetlights, and other infrastructure construction for conformance with regulatory standards, plans, and specifications. The Assistant Engineering Technician is the entry level classification in the series, and the Associate Engineering Technician is the journey level classification in the Engineering Technician series, with responsibility for more complicated technical tasks.

Examples of duties and responsibilities may include:

• Performs field inspections of public works projects, developments, and activities requiring permits and inspection
• Inspects grading, underground utilities, City water mains, sewers, storm drains, curbs, gutters, paving, irrigation systems, street lights, and other infrastructure construction for conformance with regulatory standards, plans, and specifications
• Maintains daily written records of progress made in construction and materials used
• Makes progress payments, writes change orders, and performs other contract administration duties on routine public works projects

The Emergency Dispatcher I/II position in the Sheriff’s Department performs a variety of difficult work in the provision of 24-hour-per-day, seven-days-per-week public safety emergency dispatch service, including all 911 communications. Emergency Dispatcher I is the entry level class in the Emergency Dispatcher series.  It differs from Emergency Dispatcher II in that the II level is fully trained as a dispatcher and may provide training for the Dispatcher I. This position is scheduled for forty (40) hours per week.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Receives incoming calls from the public; determines type of assistance required, including law enforcement, fire or ambulance personnel, etc., and dispatches emergency and non-emergency radio and telephone communications to appropriate jurisdictions and agencies.
• Operates a law enforcement 911 communications network.
• Maintains radio communications with field personnel as necessary to relay messages and information, and to determine the location and safety of field personnel.
• Performs a variety of clerical duties as required, including but not limited to answering business telephones; processing and/or maintaining department records, including case files; compiling information and statistics for reports; preparing criminal history reports; entering/cancelling/retrieving data on computer; ordering supplies, copying and filing documents, etc.
• Processes civil, misdemeanor, juvenile and felony warrants.

The City of Berkeley invites applications for the position of Community Health Worker Specialist! In this role, you will have the opportunity to perform paraprofessional duties related to preventive and supportive health care services. The current vacant position is in disease investigation, where you will assist in the control of disease outbreaks by conducting interviews with persons diagnosed with reportable diseases, their contacts, and healthcare providers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities outlined above is:
Equivalent to graduation from high school and two (2) years of paraprofessional experience in a public health or related setting, supplemented by formal or approved in-service training, which has provided additional expertise and demonstrated proficiency in an area of specialization such as training, examination, screening, counseling, or outreach.

Additional health science and community health coursework may be substituted for the experience on a year by year basis, to a maximum of one (1) year.

Other requirements: Some positions require a valid California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record. Must be willing to work evenings or weekends. Some positions require bilingual or bicultural skills. Possession of a Phlebotomy Certificate is required for those positions that perform venipuncture, and the certification must be maintained as a condition of continued employment in those positions.
