The Public Works Maintenance Worker I/II/III position performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled labor in the construction, maintenance and repair of County roads, bridges, culverts and other related structures, and in various traffic control maintenance and repair activities or in the various solid waste site activities of the Public Works Agency; operates a variety of construction, maintenance and transportation equipment as necessary to complete daily tasks at the Glenn County Public Works Agency. The Public Works Maintenance Worker III position is the journey-level class in the Public Works Maintenance class series, and is distinguished from the Public Works Maintenance Worker II by the primary responsibility to operate heavy diesel and gasoline-powered construction equipment in the maintenance of roadways, drainage systems and the County solid waste site. This position is scheduled for forty (40) hours per week, Monday-Thursday 6am-4:30pm during the summer. This recruitment may be used to establish a list to fill future vacancies for the next six (6) months.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Prepares roads for patch repairs, overlays, or chip seals; prepares mix for patching roads; repairs and reconstructs roads.
• Cleans roadsides and drainage systems; inspects and clears debris from drainage systems; conducts roadside burning as needed.
• Prunes trees and other vegetation as needed.
• Directs and controls traffic around work sites.
• Operates semi-trucks, dump trucks, water trucks, boom truck, front loader, rollers, snow plow, etc.; operates a compressor, sand blasters, jack hammer, chipper machine, welding equipment, cutting torch, compaction tools, weed eater, blower, and other hand and power tools.

DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:

The City of San José - Mineta San José International Airport is currently recruiting for an Airport Operations Superintendent I/II.  Newly hired Superintendents can expect to be assigned to one of four sections of Airport Operations.  Current vacancies are in the Terminal Management and Landside sections.

Airport Operations Superintendent I/II may be assigned to or rotate between the Sections within the Airport Operations Division including Airside, Landside, Terminal / Customer Service, or Security Sections. Programs within these Sections over which the Airport Operations Superintendent I/II may have managerial responsibilities include airfield operations, Manager-On-Duty, noise monitoring, emergency planning, general aviation, public parking, airport shuttle and ground transportation, parking and curbside traffic control, terminal management, customer experience and services, security compliance, airport identification badging, and Airport Operations Center (AOC) functions.

This position may require the supervision of a large number of staff and requires an individual who can provide a high level of leadership and supervision.  Additionally, the position may interact regularly with Airport customers, contractors, tenants, government agencies, and other City departments.  Successful candidates must demonstrate excellent communication skills, program/project management capabilities, and the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.

The Airport Operations Superintendent I/II positions typically work Monday through Friday day shifts, but may periodically work different shifts, covering twenty-four hours per day, seven days per week, including weekends and holidays, to ensure subordinate staff receive appropriate supervision.  The Airport Operations Superintendent I/II position also provides twenty-four hours per day, seven days per week, including weekends and holidays, stand-by support to vended services and the Manager-on-Duty position.

This position requires the ability to interpret complex regulations and a strong knowledge of various computer programs and software such as Microsoft Office as well as variety of proprietary computer systems, databases, and software.  A strong technical background or a demonstrated ability to learn new technology is preferred.  Previous, demonstrated work experience in Airport Operations at a Certificated Commercial Service Airport is highly desired.

Under the general direction of the Administrative Services & Human Resources Director/Risk Manager, manage, plan, coordinate, participate in, and supervise the activities of the Fleet Section including all new vehicle purchasing, vehicle maintenance, and vehicle disposal. Assigned functions are equipment and vehicle mechanic services which City personnel and contractors provide. This is an exempt, mid-management level position that is charged with managing the Fleet function to include related regulatory compliance requirements and reporting. Work is performed using considerable independent judgment and initiative and is reviewed by means of conferences and analysis of objectives and results accomplished.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

1. Plan, organize and schedule activities related to fleet and equipment maintenance; establish work priorities involving vehicle and equipment maintenance, repair, and purchases/replacements; plan and schedule fleet and equipment maintenance/repair activities; develop programs for routine and preventive maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
2. Receive, evaluate and process work requests from City departments; establish divisional goals and objectives and determine work priorities and methods of achieving goals and objectives.
3. Apply City and Department policies, procedures, rules and regulations pertaining to the work and the work group; establish divisional policies, procedures and rules pertaining to the work group.
4. Manage and supervise subordinate employees; prepare and present work appraisals and performance evaluations; initiate disciplinary action as necessary; and identify and/or resolve subordinate complaints; provide and/or conduct staff training.
5. Coordinate computerized system to track vehicles and equipment, work orders, time and materials, and prepare periodic charge-back reports.
6. 10. Prepare and distribute a monthly fuel consumption report to the Executive Group for all departments.
11. Prepare and coordinate surplus vehicles and equipment for disposal to a third-party auction company.
12. Prepare an annual Reporting Transmittal for the State of California Fleet Smog Check Program.
13. Prepare and maintain accurate documents to comply with the State of California Biennial Inspection Terminals Program.
14. Prepare and submit required annual reporting documents to the State Board of Equalization and the State of California Department of Toxic Substance Control.
15. Manage and coordinate all Underground Fuel Storage and automated fuel data system for required testing by a third-party contractor to comply with all local, county and state regulations.
16. Manage and maintain accurate and important documents to comply with the Department of Motors Vehicle regulations.
17. Prepare periodic reports and summaries; and direct and participate in the maintenance of necessary records.
18. Respond to questions, complaints and emergency calls and take appropriate courses of action.
19. Responsible for the maintenance of safe working conditions and practices. May serve on the city-wide safety committee and/or accident review/risk management committee.
20. Serves as a liaison to City departments and other agencies relative to assigned areas of responsibility.
21. Assist in the selection process for assigned personnel. May participate on an oral or practical board with other inter-city departments and other government agencies.
22. Attend and participate in multi division/department boards, committees or work groups related to fleet operations.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Education equivalent to an AA degree in automotive technology, automotive/equipment maintenance or a related field. The City of Gilroy retains the sole right to determine equivalency of education.
2. Six (6) years of recent experience in fleet and equipment maintenance and repair, including two (2) years of supervisory experience at a lead worker level or higher. Experience with large and/or specialized vehicles such as fire engines, police cars and Sewer System Trucks, vehicle purchasing programs, and environmentally friendly vehicles is strongly desired.
3. Additional years of related experience may be substituted for up to two years of the required education with one additional year of experience equaling one year of the required education.
4. Possess at least three valid ASE or equivalent certifications at time of hire and be willing and able to obtain additional ASE certifications that would assist in the performance of the job. The City of Gilroy retains the sole right to determine equivalency of certifications.
5. Possess and maintain a valid California Driver License and a safe driving record necessary to operate assigned vehicle(s). May be required to obtain and maintain a valid Class A California Driver License within twelve (12) months of hire. May be required to obtain endorsements. May be required to participate in the Department of Transportation Drug and Alcohol testing program, which includes submission to random drug and alcohol testing.
6. Pass a post-offer medical examination, which includes a drug test.

The City of Gilroy is recruiting to fill the position of Public Works Director. Wastewater Collections Operator II/III

Wastewater Collections Operator will work under close supervision while performing basic inspection and maintenance of mechanical and hydraulic equipment (and components) in the operation of a Wastewater Treatment Plant, Lift Stations and the Wastewater/Stormwater Collection System.  The Operator performs a variety of advanced tasks in the installation, maintenance, and repair of the Wastewater Treatment Plant, Lift Stations and Wastewater/Stormwater Collection system for the City of Marysville's Wastewater Collections Division.

SALARY RANGE:
Wastewater Operator II – $3,487.63 to $4,577.51 - monthly 

Wastewater Operator III - $3,954.74 to $5,190.60 - monthly

WORK SCHEDULE:

8 hour shifts; services in emergency standby capacity; provides customer service and performs all aspects of collection system maintenance and repair during after-hours periods including holidays and weekends.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

• City policies and procedures;
• Tools and equipment used in the operation, repair and maintenance of wastewater treatment plant and wastewater or stormwater collection systems;
