The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Supervising Librarian at the Berkeley Public Library! In this role, you will be responsible for the administration and maintenance of the physical facility; supervision, scheduling, performance management, and professional development of professional, technical, and support staff; and the generation and execution of creative, community-focused programmatic efforts. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is equivalent to graduation from college or university with a Master's degree in Library Sciences and three (3) years of experience as a professional librarian. Progressively responsible related experience may be substituted for the college coursework on a year-for-year basis.

Other requirements include the ability to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet the program's needs and to fulfill the job responsibilities. When driving on City business, maintenance of a valid California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record is required. Must be able to work evenings and weekends.

In addition to qualifications above, the ideal candidate will have lead or supervisory experience.

THE DEPARTMENT

The South San Francisco Public Library is a full-service library committed to delivering quality services to a diverse community.  Library services are available at three sites, including the Main Library (901 Civic Campus Way), the Grand Avenue Library (306 Walnut Avenue) and the Gene Mullin Community Learning Center (520 Tamarack Lane).  Lifelong literacy services are provided by Project Read at the Main Library and the Gene Mullin Community Learning Center (GMCLC).  The City currently has one opening in this classification, for a position in the Youth Services Division providing programs and services at the Main Library.

THE POSITION

The current opening for this position is in Youth Services, with responsibilities overseeing youth programs, collections, and makerspace activities. Under general direction, the Library Program Manager II plans, organizes, manages, supervises and coordinates library-wide activities covering core library services in technical, public, and literacy service areas. Incumbents work under the general direction of the Library Director or Assistant Library Director and exercises direct supervision over supervisory, professional, technical, paraprofessional and clerical staff, and volunteers. Incumbents in this class may serve as Library Director in the department head’s absence; may function as the Library’s project manager for specialized projects; and perform related work as required.

The Library Program Manager is a professional managerial position requiring the possession of a high degree of technical knowledge and supervisory responsibilities and is characterized by the comprehensiveness and complexity of the programs administered. PART-TIME LIBRARIAN I/LIBRARY ASSISTANT I

The Mill Valley Public Library is looking for a part-time librarian who is passionate about public service, shows initiative, and has a strong work ethic to work the adult reference desk. This is a great opportunity to get experience in reference work and assisting patrons with their needs. You will work in a very fast-paced, collaborative environment.  

ESTIMATED NUMBER OF HOURS:

Will work at least one shift per week with additional sub hours available. Applicant must be able to work Saturday (9:15am - 5:15pm) and/or Sunday (11:30am - 5pm) and one weeknight until 8pm. 

Salary: $24.77 - $41.04/hour depending on experience and education.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

Staffing the Adult Reference Desk is the primary responsibility of this position. A knowledge of literature or the desire to read widely is essential in making book recommendations and understanding types of computers and assisting with technology troubleshooting is crucial. The Mill Valley Library is fast-paced and innovative; the person in this position needs to learn new skills quickly, adapt easily to change, be detail-oriented, and patron focused. Many part-time staff are cross trained to work in other Library departments as needed.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

• Provide reference services including readers’ advisory. 
• Provide excellent customer service to all patrons with consistency and in line with library policies.
• Assist patrons troubleshooting technological issues on both library computers and personal devices.
• Help with programming as needed.
• Additional duties based on interests and demonstrated quality of work.

Tri-City is looking for individuals to serve as a Psychiatric Technician I/II (Licensed) on a full-time basis for the MCCP. The MCCP Psychiatric Technician will be part of a team that provides crisis intervention and stabilization, linkage and referral, consultation, and education within the scope of practice. The MCCP Psychiatric Technician will report to the Mobile Crisis Care Clinical Supervisor and Clinical Program Manager.

Tri-City’s MCCP operates 24/7 to provide crucial support in mobile crises. As such, the schedule will involve a 3/12 shift pattern, consisting of three twelve-hour days per workweek and one alternating eight-hour day every other week. Shifts may include evenings, weekends, daytime hours, and holidays.

The specific shift and schedule will be determined by the supervisor; however, the first one to two months of training will follow a 5-day-per-week, 40-hour-per-week schedule

Examples of shifts are included below:

• Day Shifts: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM, 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM, 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM, or 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Shift Rotation

Availability

• As our Mobile Crisis Care team provides critical support during community crises, it’s essential that members can respond promptly. To ensure timely response, team members must reside within a 30-minute commute to the Authority in heavy traffic. This position is responsible for a variety of ongoing responsibilities, including, but are not limited to, the following:

Positions at the Psychiatric Technician I level may perform some of these duties and responsibilities in a learning capacity.

• Under the direction of clinical staff, provides medication management services to a caseload of clients in the office and in the field; ensures the proper acquisition and administration of medication.

About Maple Street Correctional Center
Designed to create a better environment for incarcerated individuals and staff and to help reduce recidivism, the facility was the first correctional center built as part of California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s initiative to shift nonviolent, nonsexual offenders from overcrowded state prisons to county-run facilities. The center accommodates female and lower-risk male incarcerated individuals and is composed of two separate but interconnected buildings with a central administration area.

The facility’s architecture emphasizes safety, rehabilitation, and natural light. Instead of placing cells along the exterior walls as in most jails, the design features a curved glass façade with dayrooms located along windowed areas that open to individual living units. This layout improves supervision while allowing daylight to enter the building, helping the white-painted cells feel more open and spacious.

Each floor has a central core station supporting four housing units. These areas include classrooms, a computer lab, and multipurpose rooms to support educational and rehabilitative programming. Additional design elements include natural ventilation, a large rooftop recreation yard, artwork depicting scenes from nature, and a calming natural color palette.

An attached 88-bed transitional housing facility supports alternative sentencing programs such as day reporting, weekend programs, and other supervised custody arrangements, helping prepare individuals for reentry into the community.

Step 1:  Application Submission: All applicants are required to submit an online application to be considered. Step 2:  Written Examination: Applicants for the Sheriff’s Correctional Officer have three options for meeting the written examination requirement:

1. POST Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB): This exam must be completed in less than 2.5 hours, be passed with a minimum T-Score of 46 and be dated within twelve (12) months of the date of application. The areas covered by the test include spelling, vocabulary, clarity, reading and CLOZE (using contextual clues to complete a passage that contains missing words). OR

2. Possession of a California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) Certificate or possession of an Adult Corrections Officer Core completion certificate from a certified Standards and Training for Corrections (STC) academy from the Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC).

3. Possession of an associate's degree or higher from an accredited U.S. college or university.

AND

Step 3:  Physical Agility Examination – Work Sample Test Battery (WSTB): This exam must be passed with a minimum score of 320 and be dated within twelve (12) months of the date of application. This test mirrors the California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) test and is advertised as such on The Academy's website. Applicants can submit scores from either the WSTB or the Correctional Officer test through The Academy. The events for the Correctional Officer test include:

• 99-yard obstacle course in under 23 seconds
• 165-pound body drag for 32-feet in under 7 seconds
• 165-pound body lift for 60 seconds
• 500-yard run in under 2 minutes
• 1.5-mile run in 15 minutes or less

IMPORTANT: When you report for the test, inform The Academy that you are applying to be a Correctional Officer with San Mateo County. San Mateo County Correctional Officer applicants will not be required to participate in climbing the 6-foot chain link fence or 6-foot solid wall portion of the WSTB test.

NOTE: PELLETB test and WSTB results from other training organizations or law enforcement agencies will be accepted so long as they meet California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) requirements.

 

 

Examples Of Duties

Sheriff's Correctional Officer duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Receive, search, book, fingerprint, and guard inmates in the correctional facilities.  
• Take custody of inmates’ property.  
• Maintain records of bookings, releases, transfers, money and other functions of the correctional facilities.
• Prepare inmates for court and for release.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

If designated as Correctional Deputy, also perform the following:

• Transport and provide security for inmates at the hospital.
• Transport inmates between custodial facilities.
• Provide security for inmates at court.

 

Qualifications

Education and Experience: 
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.

Education: 

• A high school graduate or passing the General Education Development (GED) test or other high school equivalency test approved by CDE, or completion of at least 30 college units from an accredited or approved institution to apply.

As a Deputy Sheriff Trainee, you will begin your journey toward becoming a sworn peace officer with the support, mentorship, and training provided by the Sheriff’s Office. The events for the WSTB typically include:

• 99-yard obstacle course
• 32-foot body drag (165 lbs.)
• 6-foot chain link fence climb

• 1.5-mile run - This is a pass/fail test held independently of the WSTB scoring, and it must be completed in 14 minutes or less.

NOTE: PELLETB test and WSTB results from other training organizations or law enforcement agencies will be accepted so long as they meet California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) requirements.

 

Qualifications

Education: A high school graduate or passing the General Education Development (GED) test or other high school equivalency test approved by CDE, or completion of at least 60 college units from an accredited or approved institution.

This position performs the following essential job duties (including but not limited to):

• Attend orientations and trainings.

Under direction and management of the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District, the 9-1-1 Center provides the full array of public safety communication services for Police/Fire and EMS.

THE POSITION
Under the supervision of a shift lead, the Public Safety Dispatcher processes emergency and non-emergency calls for service; dispatches police, fire, medical, and other emergency equipment, by telephone or radio, utilizing complex technical aids, such as Computer Aided Dispatch systems (CAD); and performs other related duties as assigned.
 
The ideal candidate will possess a POST Basic Certificate, EMD Certificate, EFD Certificate, and knowledge in all disciplines of Police/Fire and EMS dispatching and one year as a Public Safety Dispatcher with a demonstrated background in the operation of modern Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems.  Note:  The POST Basic Certificate is required at time of application. Monitors and maintains status of public safety personnel and equipment; analyzes situations accurately and takes effective action to help ensure officer and firefighter safety; handle the reassignment of fire equipment to ensure adequate district-wide fire protection.

Provides operational support for police, fire, and medical operations; facilitates outside agency assistance and mutual aid requests; as requested, enters, updates, and retrieves information from teletype networks relating to wanted persons, stolen property, vehicle registration, stolen vehicles; handles tow requests and other information.
