The City of San Rafael Library and Recreation Department is now accepting applications for the position of Facilities Attendant (two part-time/temporary positions available).  This position provides customer service to renters and program participants while assisting with the supervision of front counter/reception area, set up and breakdown equipment for scheduled activities, custodial and cleaning including but not limited to emptying trash, vacuuming, cleaning windows, cleaning restrooms, etc.; opening and securing facility before and after building use and interacting with instructors, clients, and the general public.  Bilingual in Spanish is desired. 

Qualifications:

• Ability to provide good customer service to instructors, clients, and the general public.
• Ability to use a variety of cleaning equipment and materials.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing in English.
• Ability to follow written and oral directions.
• Ability to work cooperatively with others.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends and some holidays.
• Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

THE POSITION:
This extra-help, non-benefited position provides excellent customer service while performing a variety of professional all ages library services, including reference, reader’s advisory, collection development, event planning, outreach, digital literacy training for the public, and performs related work as assigned as replacement for regular staff who are on vacation or ill. TYPICAL TASKS include, but are not limited to:

• Provides general reference and reader’s advisory services
• Explains library policies and procedures to patrons and staff
• Assists, advises and instructs patrons on the use of library materials and equipment, including automated catalogs, the Internet, various software, eBooks and audio book reading and listening devices and digital literacy in general
• Conducts reference searches using a variety of database, online, and other search techniques
• Helps to maintain and select the addition of books, reference materials, CD’s, DVD’s, electronic media, and other library materials
• Assists at the Circulation Desk when needed.
• Assists in and/or directs the preparation of exhibits and the organization and presentation of a variety of programs and events, as well as forming community partnerships for co-events
• Leads book discussion groups
• Promotes the Library out in the community, at schools, and events, and provides written outreach through community publications as well as press releases and other promotions; may represent the Library in meetings with the community or special interest groups
• Helps to maintain social media connectivity to the library public.
• Works collaboratively with staff, the community and special interest groups.
• The Librarian II performs all of these tasks but at a more difficult, higher level. May serve as Person-in-Charge when Branch Manager is absent.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
 
Education and Experience: Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS), Master of Library Science (MLS), or Master of Science in Library Science (MSLS) degree from an accredited college or university. The Librarian II requires two years of appropriate professional experience working as a professional librarian, preferably in a public library. Must have a valid California driver’s license. Spanish bilingual skills are preferred.
 
 SALARY RANGES:            Librarian I -   $36.09/hour to $37.92/hour
                                             Librarian II - $37.90/hour to $39.82hour
 
                                               (Spanish Bi-lingual pay eligible upon passing required testing)

ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Gilroy is currently recruiting for a full-time Senior Civil Engineer or Project Manager (depending on qualifications and experience) for the Engineering Division of the Public Works Department. In this exciting opportunity the incumbent will play a pivotal role in shaping infrastructure and overseeing key projects vital to the growth and development of the City of Gilroy. The Senior Civil Engineer or Project Manager will work under the direction of the City Engineer and/or the Public Works Director and will lead the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Section. This supervisory position will lead a team of engineers and technicians in the implementation of the City’s CIP, including the planning, design, construction, and inspection of a variety of projects.  Responsibilities include supervising employees, directing complex professional-level field and office engineering assignments, developing strategies and schedules for implementing the CIP, assisting with CIP budgeting, and playing a significant role in making a difference in the community!

Both the Senior Civil Engineer and Project Manager classifications are exempt, mid-management level positions. The Project Manager classification is distinguished from the Senior Civil Engineer in that a professional engineer license is not required.

Public Works CIP projects involve planning, design, coordination with end users, bid package preparation, and construction management.  Therefore, exceptional organizational and project management skills are imperative to achieve department and City goals. Additionally, successful performance requires the ability to independently implement programs, projects, and policies in conformance with generally accepted standards, including possessing thorough knowledge of contract administration, project management principles and supervisory practices.

The Senior Civil Engineer or Project Manager will manage assigned staff and consultants and assist with budgeting tasks within the Engineering Division. Furthermore, the Senior Civil Engineer/ Project Manager will provide and participate in critical team leadership to ensure that all engineering services, goals, projects, and initiatives meet the high-performance standards of the Department and City.
