The City of Sebastopol is seeking a problem-solving, inclusive, collaborative, and good communicator professional with an understanding of engineering principles and terminology, the ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics, strong mathematical skills for calculations and measurements, and familiarity with industry standards and safety protocols for the role of Engineering Technician I/II.

This position performs various tasks in the office and field, both technical and administrative, supporting the Public Works Department and the City Engineer. The Engineering Technician I/II will be the primary contact person providing assistance and referrals to visitors at the City’s Corporation Yard. The incumbent may be assigned duties related to compliance programs and reporting, engineering projects, and capital projects, which may include project management, development and plan review, calculating fees, issuance of permits, maintaining plan files and engineering records, field surveys, site inspections, information gathering, data analysis, performing mark and locate functions, participating in surveying activities, or other areas as needed. City employees are expected to work equally well with all community members regardless of cultural differences or circumstances, including race, ethnicity, religion, language, gender identity, age, marital and familial status, sexual orientation, diverse physical and learning abilities, socioeconomic status, and other identities.

This is a flexibly staffed classification. Positions in this class are normally filled by advancement from the class of Engineering Technician I, or when filled from the outside, require prior related work experience. The Engineering Technician I incumbent is expected to learn and be able to perform all duties and responsibilities of this classification. Advancement from level I to level II is based on the successful performance of the full range of level II job duties and the existence of an approved and budgeted level II allocation. The department may hire at either the I or the II level depending on the skills, certifications, and licenses held by the pool of qualified applicants.

The City of Sebastopol is seeking an engaging, inclusive, collaborative, and talented leader who is well-versed in engineering principles and practices, project management, facility and infrastructure maintenance, water distribution and wastewater collection systems, public parks and facilities maintenance, laws, regulations, and safety standards. The Director of Public Works/ City Engineer serves as the City Engineer and coordinates assigned activities with other departments and outside agencies.

This position plans, organizes, directs, and reviews the full range of activities and operations of the Department of Public Works, including engineering design, public works construction and inspection, repair and maintenance of City infrastructure and streets, and transportation programs. The Director of Public Works/ City Engineer reflects a demonstrative cultural competency working with all community members regardless of cultural differences or circumstances, including race, ethnicity, religion, language, gender identity, age, marital and familial status, sexual orientation, diverse physical and learning abilities, socioeconomic status, and other identities. This role's duties allow for a broad scope of independent decision-making within legal, policy, and regulatory guidelines. PART-TIME ARCHIVIST (LIBRARIAN I/LIBRARY ASSISTANT I)

The Mill Valley Public Library is looking for a part-time archivist for the Lucretia Little History Room. This individual should be passionate about preserving local history, particularly oral histories.

ESTIMATED NUMBER OF HOURS:

12 - 15 hours per week, depending on availability and experience.

Salary: $21.81 - $39.84 per hour, depending on experience and education.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

Reporting to the Supervising Archivist, the Part-Time Archivist in the Lucretia Little History Room will oversee the processing of new oral history recordings and work through the backlog. The ideal candidate will be able to multitask, work independently and collaboratively, with excellent communication and organization skills, and an eye for detail.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

• Accession, arrange, describe, and preserve oral history interviews.
• Process and digitize incoming donations, as well as the backlog.
• Assist in archival workflow development and implementation.
• Contribute to and lead outreach projects showcasing the History Room’s collections.
• Assist with ad hoc projects as needed.

Salary: $8,769 - $11,749 / Month + Benefits

Under direction of the Director of Public Works, or designee, the Associate Engineer or Project Manager performs engineering and project management services in the public setting, collaborating with multiple stakeholders. These roles involve a wide range of management functions, including planning, development, scheduling, budgeting, and implementation of assigned projects. The position(s) are responsible for managing multiple Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) and complex specialized projects or programs. Both classifications provide administrative, professional, and technical assistance to the Department Director, staff, and members of the public as required. We are currently seeking to hire 1-2 new FTEs.

• Leads, coordinates, schedules, budgets, and reviews activities of the Capital Improvement Project team, support staff, consultants, and contractors; includes overseeing road closures, utility encroachments, and traffic control plans.
   
• Plans, organizes, administers, and coordinates the implementation of Capital Improvement Projects or other City projects; involves reviewing and approving grading and encroachment permit applications, and coordinating project-related activities.
   
• Prepares and may present a variety of periodic progress and special reports related to projects and activities; includes preparing comprehensive technical and staff reports in verbal and written form to commissions, Task Forces, City Council, and other agencies.
   
• Confers and negotiates with stakeholders, business owners, and property owners regarding project impacts, potential right-of-way acquisition, and improvements; includes consulting with public and private agencies, and securing various easements on the City’s behalf.
   
• Reviews cost estimates, interprets plans and specifications for contractors, and determines contractual compliance; involves reviewing and approving utility encroachments and traffic control plans for compliance with City standards.
   
• Responds to questions or complaints related to project activities or policy; includes responding to inquiries from the public and resolving citizen complaints.
   
• Conducts contract bid openings, including review and approval of bid documentation, preparation, and analysis of bid summaries.
   
• Exercises sound, independent judgment in the day-to-day administration of specialized or complex projects and activities; includes overseeing project implementation and ensuring compliance with City standards.
   
• Closely coordinates with project or program stakeholders, consultants, contractors, City Council, and project team; includes coordinating with engineers, contractors, and private owners relative to construction and maintenance of private structures and sewer facilities.

The San Rafael Public Library is accepting applications for Substitute Librarians and Substitute Library Assistants to work in our San Rafael Public Libraries, including Downtown (1100 E Street), Pickleweed (50 Canal Street), and Northgate (5800 Northgate Drive, Ste. 083).  We are looking for people who are available on call, weekends, or other limited shifts.  This is a great opportunity for those interested in working at both a downtown and neighborhood branch libraries, as well as those excited by providing library services to a diverse community.  These are temporary positions, limited to 1,000 hours worked within a fiscal year (July 1 thru June 30) and receive no City benefits.

Substitute Librarians perform professional-level library public service work, including answering reference questions, providing readers’ advisory, providing technical assistance, and presenting programs (as needed) for both adult and youth services.

Substitute Library Assistants perform circulation tasks such as checking materials in and out, and work at the public service desk for both adult and youth services, assisting patrons with basic requests including answering simple questions, creating new patron accounts, and referring patrons to other staff for more complex questions. 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Substitute Librarians:

• Knowledge of Library Services and reference materials; readers advisory; professional practices and techniques of library science; and on-line library systems and information resources.
• Masters in library science issued by a college or university accredited by the American Library Association is preferred.
• Ability to work and effectively communicate with a diverse range of patrons.
• Bilingual in Spanish desired.

Substitute Library Assistants:

• Knowledge of basic office practices and procedures, including the operation of standard office equipment; alphabetical, numerical, and topical filing systems; material organization and structure of libraries; including categories of materials and general arrangement; library technical services terminology and equipment including on-line databases.
• Experience working in public libraries preferred.
• Ability to work and effectively communicate with a diverse range of patrons.
• Bilingual in Spanish desired.

The Process Control Technician performs a variety of technical and professional engineering duties related to the design, installation, set-up, programming, troubleshooting and maintenance of hardware, software and instrumentation associated with the District’s Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.

They support Operations and Maintenance by troubleshooting, researching, designing, purchasing, and installing field instrumentation, programmable logic controller (PLC), operator interface terminals (OIT), variable speed drives, electrical systems, and other appurtenances. The Process Control Technician provides PLC and OIT programming and installation support making programming changes as required for the efficient operation of new and existing District facilities.

Qualifications
Any combination of training, education and experience which demonstrates possession of the knowledge and abilities stated above and the ability to perform the duties of the position.

Experience and Education

• Graduation from high school or equivalent, supplemented by college or equivalent course work in engineering, electronics, instrumentation, control systems, and/or computer systems.
• Two years of increasingly responsible experience involving the configuration and programming of process control, instrumentation and operator interface terminals.
• A Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field from an accredited college or university is desirable.

Licenses and Certification

• Possession of a valid and appropriate California Driver License with a satisfactory driving record to maintain insurability.
• Possession of a State Water Resources Control Board Distribution Operator Certification for Grade D1 is desirable.
