The Department: 

The Santa Clara City Library is a department of the City and has positioned itself as a dynamic community hub, providing access to information, literacy resources, educational programming, and promotes civic engagement in Santa Clara. The Library Department is organized into seven divisions: Administration, Adult Services, Branch Services, Customer Services, Facilities, Technical and Technology Services and Youth Services. Santa Clara City Library has recently finalized and in the ongoing process to implement its new Strategic and Facilities Master Plans that will support the direction of future library services.

The Position: 

The Library Assistant I is the entry-level classification in the Library Assistant series. This recruitment is to fill a full-time position at the Northside Branch Library, that serves the diverse and growing community in the northern part of the City of Santa Clara. As a community-focused branch, it provides welcoming, responsive library services that support lifelong learning, literacy, and community connection.

The incumbent provides frontline support for library services by maintaining high standards of customer service, upholding library policies and procedures, ensuring the safe and effective operation of library technology, and participating in community outreach efforts and programs. This position plays a key role in creating a positive and inclusive environment for patrons of all ages.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively within a team while also exercising sound independent judgment and initiative. Minimum Qualifications:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Education Requirements: 

Completion of sixty (60) semester units or ninety (90) quarter units from a college or university.

Minimum Experience Requirements: 

Six (6) months of experience involving direct public contact and/or clerical work.

Acceptable Substitution: 

Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on the basis of one (1) year of experience for thirty (30) semester units or forty-five (45) quarter units up to two (2) years.

License/Certifications: 

Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license is required at the time of appointment and for the duration of employment.

Desirable Qualifications: 

One (1) year of customer service or library work experience.

Other Requirements:  

Must be able to perform all the essential functions of the job assignment, with or without reasonable accommodation.

The Summer Learning Challenge is a summer library program that encourages kids, teens and adults to read or listen to books in the summer. The Challenge is a fun, interactive program for the whole family that includes free book giveaways, activities, raffles, and prizes for kids ages 0-18. The program starts on June 1 and runs through the end of August.

We are looking for enthusiastic high school interns to support Library staff with activities both at the libraries and at summer outreach sites throughout the City of Redwood City to promote and support the Summer Learning Challenge. The interns will be responsible for planning and delivering library programs, providing them with opportunities where their voices are elevated and valued.

Example of Duties: Under the supervision of a Librarian perform various duties as assigned for the operation of the Summer Learning Challenge. Duties may include, assist with planning and delivering programs for kids and teen, serve lunch an lead activities during the lunch at the Library service, register children and families up in the Summer Learning Challenge and record statistical data, staff outreach events at local school and community sites.

THE DEPARTMENT

The Water Quality Control Plant (WQCP) processes wastewater discharge for the cities of South San Francisco, San Bruno and the Town of Colma. The Water Quality Control Plant is a division of the Public Works Department staffed by 38 employees including: Plant Superintendent; Operation, Maintenance, Laboratory and Environment Compliance Supervisors; Senior Chemist; Chemist; Lead Plant Mechanics; Plant Mechanics; Lead Plant Operators; Plant Operators; Electricians; Senior Environmental Compliance Inspector; Environmental Compliance Inspectors, Utility Workers, and two Administrative Assistants.

THE LABORATORY

The WQCP laboratory conducts vital chemical and microbiological tests to the wastewater treatment plant 365 days a year. The laboratory analyzes water samples throughout the various stages of treatment process, and provides the operation with quick feedback critical to maintaining and optimizing the treatment process as well as meeting requirements for regulatory monitoring. The Laboratory is accredited by the Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (ELAP) under the State Water Resources Control Board, and maintains accreditation in accordance with the 2016 TNI Standard.

The City of Thousand Oaks Public Works Department is seeking an Assistant Analyst to support the Sustainability Division in advancing the City’s sustainability and energy initiatives. This position plays a key role in managing and analyzing complex data related to energy, water, waste, and electric vehicle infrastructure, while supporting implementation of the Climate and Environmental Action Plan (CEAP).

The Assistant Analyst assists with benchmarking, reporting, GIS mapping, and coordination of external energy programs, as well as contract development and tracking funding opportunities to ensure compliance and maximize program impact. Through public outreach, vendor coordination, and continuous improvement efforts, this role helps advance innovative solutions that promote energy efficiency, renewable energy adoption, and the City’s long-term sustainability and environmental goals.

SALARY 

The anticipated hiring range for the Assistant Analyst position is $80,594 - $100,743 annually, with a full salary range up to $120,892. The City typically makes offers within the hiring range based on the candidate’s experience and qualifications. 
 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Support in collecting, cleaning, and analyzing sustainability data, including energy, water, waste, and EV charging
• Assist with the development of dashboards, reports, and data visualizations for internal and public use
• Support sustainability benchmarking, ongoing reporting, and greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory updates
• Assist with CEAP implementation through data updates, progress tracking, KPI reporting, and documentation
• Provide GIS mapping support for EV charging, solar installations, energy use intensity, and retrofit prioritization

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS:

The Sustainability Analyst I is the entry-level class in the Sustainability Analyst series. Incumbents in this class provide varied professional clerical and technical support in the administration of solid waste, recycling, organics and related sustainability programs.

The Sustainability Analyst II is the journey-level class in the Sustainability Analyst series. Incumbents are expected to be fully competent in all major solid waste and recycling program functions and able to independently perform assignments.

Incumbents at both levels are required to have an in-depth and comprehensive knowledge of the policies and procedures necessary to achieve program results.

Positions in the Sustainability Analyst series are flexibly staffed. Incumbents may advance to the higher level after gaining the knowledge, skill, experience, licenses, and certifications which meet the qualifications for and demonstrating the ability to perform the work of the higher-level class.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (illustrative only): 

• Perform research, field investigations and statistical analyses related to integrated solid waste management including waste reduction, reuse, recycling, and composting; compile and analyze data; identify and evaluate discrepancies, and proactively find solutions; formulate recommendations and viable alternatives; prepare, deliver, and/or present a variety of oral and/or written reports.

The Position: Learning Facilitators will be responsible for leading high-quality and connected learning experiences with children and collaborating with the other staff in a classroom environment for the Big Lift Summer Program. Inspiring Summers Camps: The camps serve children reading below grade level in areas where the majority of youth qualify for free or reduced lunch. Staff working intensively with enrolled youth will have the opportunity to make our community a stronger, healthier, and more equitable place. These summer learning experiences are a critical part of San Mateo County's strategy to dramatically reduce the number of youth who cannot read on grade level, a problem that disproportionately affects youth of color and socioeconomically disadvantaged youth. Location: Big Lift Inspiring Summer Learning Facilitators will be assigned to work at one of eight camps with children who will be entering kindergarten, first, second, or third grade in the Fall. The camps are located in Daly City, Half Moon Bay, Millbrae, Pacifica, Pescadero, San Bruno, and South San Francisco.
 
Schedule: This 6 to 7-week internship will begin with 8 days of required training and will then continue with a 4 to 5-week assignment in one of our learning camps. The camp assignment will either be part-time (20-28 hours per week, 4-5 hours per day Monday-Thursday and all day on Friday) or full-time (35-40 hours per week, 7-8 hours per day Monday-Friday).
 
MANDATORY IN-PERSON TRAINING WILL BEGIN TUESDAY, MAY 26, OR MONDAY, JUNE 1, 2025, depending on site placement.

Qualifications

These positions are designed to support college-aged students, recent graduates, and paraprofessionals working in youth education.
 
Education or Experience: Experience working with youth or a demonstrated interest in working with youth. Examples include experience coaching, tutoring, providing childcare, and taking child development coursework. Experience in theater, arts, music, youth development, early childhood, social justice, and science is also preferred.
 
Age Recruitment: must be 16 years or older. 
 
Language: Bilingual in Spanish preferred but not required.
