LITERACY ASSOCIATE – CENTRAL SANTA ROSA LIBRARY

40 HOURS PER WEEK – FULL TIME

 
We are seeking a customer service driven professional with excellent communication skills to join our team as an Adult Literacy Associate. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a group of dedicated professionals who are helping to change the literacy landscape in Sonoma County. This position is part of the Adult Literacy department located in the downtown Central Santa Rosa Library. Spanish/English bilingual skills are highly preferred.

Under direction of the Adult Services Administrator and the Supervising Literacy Program Coordinator, this position coordinates and administers tutor services for the Adult Literacy Services Program (ALS), recruits and provides orientations, training and in-service workshops to tutors for various adult literacy programs, and provides on-going coaching and support for tutors.
 
TYPICAL TASKS include, but are not limited to:

• Organizes, conducts and evaluates orientations, trainings and in-service workshops for tutors of adult learners; organizes conversation classes and determines the schedule and use of the student computer. 
• Recruits, selects, supervises, supports and encourages tutors; plans and implements methods to both recruit and retain tutors.
• Provides tutors with all instructional resources and materials needed to work with the student and provides ongoing support to the tutor for the duration of their service.
• Plans and organizes events in support of the Sonoma County Library adult literacy programs; participates in public meetings.
• Plans and implements outreach methods for the recruitment of volunteer tutors such as providing information on our program to newspapers, radio stations (PSA), and sending mailers to service and business groups; follows-up on recruitment efforts.
• Maintains the literacy library with relevant materials for the ALS programs.

 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
 
Education: Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in education, public administration or related fields. Experience: A combination of education and experience that creates an understanding of adult illiteracy. Generally, this would be achieved by two (2) years of administrative or programmatic experience including one year of library or literacy experience.  Experience working with adults in an educational setting. Spanish bilingual skills preferred.
 
SALARY RANGE:               $35.20/hour to $43.96/hour

Air Quality Planning Section (AB 617 Role)
Are you interested in reducing air pollution and improving health outcomes in the most impacted and overburdened communities in the Bay Area? The AB 617 Principal Environmental Planner will join a high performing and motivated team of professionals who work in deep partnership with the communities most impacted by air pollution. You will lead and contribute to the successful preparation and implementation of community-scale air quality plans in partnership with Air District staff, community members, partner organizations, local governments, the California Air Resources Board, and other state agencies. You will work to support community steering committees and other community partners determine how to best improve air quality and reduce health disparities while centering equity and addressing environmental justice. To be successful in this role, you must be a strong team player, have strong communication, project management and analytical skills, and be able to work with people of varied backgrounds and perspectives, including low-income communities of color and communities overburdened by air pollution. You will leverage your knowledge of land use, transportation, air quality, equity and environmental justice to lead and conduct research, analyze issues, prepare community centered planning materials including preparing and delivering presentations, writing summaries and plan documents, and craft recommendations to support community and Air District decision making.
 

Air Quality Planning Section (State and Federal Attainment Planning Role)

You will be a thought leader using innovation and creativity to integrate air quality, health, equity, and environmental justice into air quality plans, policies, and programs. You will be responsible for leading collaborative efforts across the Air District, and for working in close partnership with a variety of stakeholders including communities and local governments. You will leverage your knowledge of land use, transportation, air quality, CEQA, equity and environmental justice to lead and conduct research, analyze issues, prepare and deliver presentations, develop planning documents and resources, lead environmental impact assessments, and crafting actionable recommendations.

To be successful in this role, you must have experience in project management, be able to lead and manage teams, be committed to collaboration and partnerships, and be excited to inspire others to work together to achieve shared goals and objectives. • Lead the development and delivery of new and innovative policies, programs and projects to accelerate emission and exposure reductions in communities most disproportionately impacted by air pollution.
• Develop and maintain strong working relationships with community-based organizations, community members, local governments, regional, state and federal agencies to develop and implement local and regional air quality plans and programs.
• Lead collaborative projects and programs that actively engage staff from other Divisions to advanced local community health protection goals and objectives in overburdened, low-income, and communities of color.

The Yuba County Sheriff’s Department is currently seeking one full-time Animal Care Technician.  Under general supervision, Animal Care Technicians assist in the daily maintenance, feeding and care of animals housed in the county’s animal care facility including those subject to quarantine, injured or ill; assist with euthanizations; provide information to the public regarding lost or stray animals; assist with licensing, pet adoptions and community volunteer programs; and perform related work as assigned.  This class is a working level class in the animal care series.

THE WATER QUALITY CONTROL PLANT:

The Water Quality Control Plant (WQCP) processes wastewater discharge for the cities of South San Francisco, San Bruno and the Town of Colma. What You’ll Do

The Environmental Compliance Inspector performs inspections and sampling of industrial, commercial and residential sources of discharge to the City’s sanitary sewer and storm drain systems to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations; inspects hazardous materials storage areas; responds to reports of illicit discharges; performs water quality testing; and conducts public outreach activities.  This classification is distinguished from all other technical and professional classifications in the City by its specialized assignments in support of a variety of environmental compliance programs.  The duties of the class involve courteous, effective and tactful interaction with the community to ensure compliance with wastewater and stormwater discharge regulations.  Persons assigned to this class perform or assist in performing all functions associated with the City’s Source Control (Pretreatment and Pollution Prevention) and Stormwater programs.  This position reports to the Regulatory Compliance Manager or higher level department personnel.
