The Position: The Recreation and Community Services Department seeks a Teacher’s Aide to assist in the pre-school classroom. Campbell Recreation Pre-School builds fundamental cognitive, emotional, social, and physical skills for children ages 3 to 5. Classes are held September through May at the Campbell Community Center.

Responsibilities:

• Assist with set-up and clean-up of classroom and preparation of art projects
• Greet children upon their arrival and check children out as they leave
• Supervise children in the playground area to ensure safe, injury-free play
• Set up and/or put away playground activities
• Assist teacher in providing a safe, positive, and fun class conducive to learning
• Other duties as assigned, which will vary by classroom and teacher

Qualifications:

• Training and/or experience working with children in a structured classroom setting
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, and teachers
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions
• Ability to perform the essential functions of the position which requires standing, bending, sitting (including sitting on the floor and in small chairs at children’s level)
• Ability to keep basic records and perform basic arithmetic calculations

WATERSHED MAINTENANCE

• works with Marin County Adult Offender Work Program (AOWP) participants on Saturdays
• constructs or maintains fuel breaks;
• removes exotic plant species and plants native vegetation;
• constructs fish habitat improvement;
• installs erosion control structures;
• may work on a crew preparing for and conducting prescribed burns;
• supports heavy equipment operation and maintenance used in vegetation management;
• maintains radio communications with field staff;
• follows safe work practices and observes safety rules and precautions to ensure a safe work environment;
• drives light trucks to and from various locations throughout the watershed to conduct District business;
• operates construction equipment and a variety of hand and power tools in the maintenance of watershed lands and facilities; and

WATERSHED PROTECTION/RANGER AIDE

• Assist Ranger staff with day to day maintaining of park and watershed cleanliness and order;
• maintain off park watershed property for cleanliness and order;
• inspects facilities for cleanliness and empties trash containers, refills dispensers and cleans restroom facilities as needed;
• replace and update signage as needed;
• repair, maintain or close trails as needed;
• maintains security of radio, cash, materials, and supplies;
• maintains radio communications with field staff and assists watershed personnel as requested;
• performs administrative tasks including completing daily cash summaries, verifying and securing receipts;
• assists with patrol of areas to aid visitors and prevent vandalism and misuse;
• assists in interpretation of  laws, ordinances, rules and regulations;
• may enforce parking regulations;
• may administer first aid as directed or consistent with level of training;

The Marketing Specialist will lead and establish marketing strategies and best practices for the Recreation & Community Services Department, including specific-programs, events, parks, and facilities. This position will employ traditional and digital marketing and communications techniques to develop content, manage social media platforms and webpages, curate collateral, and increase awareness of department offerings. This position will assist with marketing a new 24,500 square foot, Gold LEED equivalent Community Center that will open in spring 2021. This is a part-time position that averages 30-38 hours per week.

OTHER INFORMATION

Temporary employees are non-benefited, at-will positions. Since the City does not participate in Social Security and is required to provide an alternative retirement plan, you are required to participate in the City's defined contribution retirement plan through Nationwide where 3.75% of your gross compensation per pay period is deducted and put into the plan. The City matches this 3.75% for a total contribution of 7.5% of your gross compensation per pay period.

Youth Development Leader

ABOUT THE POSITION

In working for the Distance Learning Program, individuals will have the opportunity to be a part of a team of dedicated development leaders who are passionate about the community and inspiring students to reach their full potential.

The City of Redwood City is working with schools to provide youth with opportunities to excel in school and participate in recreation activities. The City is looking for youth development leaders to help support distance learning program in planning, organizing and conducting structured academic support, recreation enrichment activities in a variety of settings selected by the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department. Youth Development leaders typically assist in conducting academic support and academic enrichment recreation activities, as well as assisting with two other components of the after-school program, life skills and health awareness. This position will report directly to the Recreation and Community Services Program Coordinator and will work approximately 20-28 hours per week, Monday - Friday during the school year (August 2020 to June 2021 depending on site assignment). The distance learning programs will be closed all school holidays and district-wide teacher training days.

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Provide structure academic support, plan, organize and conduct recreation enrichment activities for youth.
• Supervise recreation participants, insuring that proper safety precautions are observed in assigned activities.
• Maintain and care for equipment; prepare activity calendars, bulletin boards, lesson plans and/or coaching strategies as appropriate to help promote and plan activities effectively.
• Assist in organizing, promoting, directing and staffing; report to supervisors orally and in writing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Completion of AA degree or Early Childhood Education certificate is highly preferred
• A passion to work with youth
• Ability to work effectively and develop a team environment
• Some experience in a recreation setting preferred but not required.

Licenses & Certificates

• The incumbent may be required to travel between various locations during their scheduled work shift.
• Possession of a valid California Driver License with a satisfactory driving record is required.

Knowledge of:

• Leadership Techniques.
• Basic Math and English
• Specialized recreation activities.

Ability to:

• Assist students in homework and provide academic support
• Plan, organize and conduct a wide variety of recreation activities for all age groups and genders.
• Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Establish, maintain and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Must be physically capable of performing job functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.

A City application is required. Prior to appointment, candidates will be required to pass a background check (at no cost to the candidate) including the following:

1. Criminal History Check
2. DMV Check
3. Fingerprinting

Prior to appointment, candidates will also be required to pass a TB Test at no cost to the candidate.

For the candidates who are under 18 years old at the time of hire, an official work permit from school is required. Once the candidates turn 18, they will be required to pass a fingerprint check.
