Under general or direct supervision at the lower level and under direction at the higher level, incumbents perform varied professional technical, analytical, and administrative tasks in providing staff support to departments and divisions to; perform contract administration functions; compile and maintain records; conduct special studies, surveys, and research assignments in a variety of project, program, service, and/or operational procedures; and, to perform related work as required.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS:

The Sustainability Analyst I is the entry-level class in the Sustainability Analyst series. Incumbents in this class provide varied professional clerical and technical support in the administration of solid waste, recycling, organics and related sustainability programs.

The Sustainability Analyst II is the journey-level class in the Sustainability Analyst series. Incumbents are expected to be fully competent in all major solid waste and recycling program functions and able to independently perform assignments.

Incumbents at both levels are required to have an in-depth and comprehensive knowledge of the policies and procedures necessary to achieve program results.

Positions in the Sustainability Analyst series are flexibly staffed. Incumbents may advance to the higher level after gaining the knowledge, skill, experience, licenses, and certifications which meet the qualifications for and demonstrating the ability to perform the work of the higher-level class.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (illustrative only): 

• Perform research, field investigations and statistical analyses related to integrated solid waste management including waste reduction, reuse, recycling, and composting; compile and analyze data; identify and evaluate discrepancies, and proactively find solutions; formulate recommendations and viable alternatives; prepare, deliver, and/or present a variety of oral and/or written reports. 
• Assist in developing and conducting special projects, studies, surveys, and research assignments, policy, services, public education and outreach, data management, contract administration, for an office, department or division, as assigned. 
• Designs and develops a variety of materials and activities to promote, implement, and evaluate assigned sustainability and environmental programs in a manner that will enhance public awareness, educate citizens to relevant environmental issues, and encourage proactive and cooperative problem-solving activities. 
• Works with program staff on contract administration, program development, maintenance and continuous improvement. 
• Provide sustainability related technical assistance to city departments, divisions, staff, the public, community organization and businesses. 
• Analyze and initiate recommendations to develop, improve, and/or ensure legislation compliance for department or division programs, systems, procedures, and methods of operation. 
• Organizes and participates in assigned program area activities, including contract management and compliance, customer service and outreach, data collection and analysis, and presentation of technical and specialized data. 
• Assist in the implementation and maintenance of programs, services, systems, policies, processes, procedures, manuals, and forms for use in operation; provide personnel training on related areas. 
• Assist in the development, coordination, and monitoring of the department or division budget; research and evaluate costs; provide budget tracking tasks as required. 
• Participate in administering contracts with contractors, subcontractors and consultants, ensure documents and reports comply with City contract standards; monitor programs for compliance with applicable scopes of service, rules, regulations, laws, and policies. 
• Represent the City and/or department in interdepartmental, community, civic and professional meetings, public forums, and conferences as required; make presentations as necessary. 
• Builds and maintains positive working relationships with coworkers, other City employees, other organizations and their representatives, and the general public, exhibiting effective customer service and communication skills. 
• Participates with other City departments, community service providers, consultants, other jurisdictions and agencies in sustainability and environmental program development and coordination efforts as well as legislative advocacy and education. 
• Monitor and coordinate the daily operation of assigned functional area; perform detail-oriented work and maintain accurate records, systems, processes, and statistics; evaluate using appropriate metrics. 
• Develops and maintains databases, contract compliance tracking records, and forms as needed. 
• May conduct presentations related to City's sustainability and solid waste and recycling programs and services upon request. 
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is completion of 60 college semester units. Previous volunteer or paid experience in a law enforcement support area is desirable.
 
Other requirements include:

• Must be free from any disqualifications for employment, including felony convictions.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law.
• Must be 21 years of age or older at time of appointment.
• Must be fingerprinted for purposes of search of local, state, and national fingerprint files to disclose a criminal record.
• Must be of good moral character, as determined by a thorough background investigation.
• Must be a high school graduate, pass the General Education Development Test or other high school equivalency test approved by the State Department of Education that indicates high school graduation level, pass the California High School Proficiency Examination, or have attained a two-year, four-year, or advanced degree from an accredited college or university.
• Must be found to be free from any physical, emotional, or mental condition, including bias against race or ethnicity, gender, nationality, religion, disability, or sexual orientation, that might adversely affect the exercise of the powers of a peace officer.
• Must possess a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record. 
• Must be able to meet physical, psychological and background standards. 
• Must be willing to work evening, night, weekend and holiday shifts. 
• Must be able to obtain required POST certification and maintain firearms qualification.

EXAM PROCESS

The exam process will include, but is not limited to: 

• Application review for minimum qualifications and required documents
• Written Exam: POST PELLETB
• Performance Exam: Physical Abilities Test (PAT)

The written exam and performance exam will be administered on the same day. See the job announcement for upcoming City of Berkeley exam dates. 

If you are unable to attend the City of Berkeley exam dates, you may register and take your exams with The Academy. The Academy charges a non-refundable materials fee of $10 for the written exam, $25 for the practice PAT, and $100 for the official PAT. After taking the exams and receiving passing scores, please attach your scores to your application.

POST will not authorize you to take the exam within 30 calendar days of having taken your last POST written exam. Please refer to the POST website for additional information.

Applicants may waive the written exam only by submitting a California POST Entry Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB) T-score of 48 points or higher. We will accept California POST T-scores from other agencies provided the test was taken no more than one year prior to the date of application. Applicants must submit, on agency letterhead, a letter that states that the individual has taken the California PELLETB written exam. The letter must contain the total T-score and the date of the test. For information on where the PELLETB test is offered, please visit www.theacademy.ca.gov/tests.

Applicants may waive the performance exam only by submitting a California POST physical agility certificate, known as the Work Sample Test Battery (WSTB), with a score of 325 or higher.  The 1.5-mile run is not a requirement.  The test should not be dated no more than one year prior to the date of application.

Tests may consist of any combination of written, oral or other exercises or assessment procedures that test content and may include, but are not necessarily limited to, typing, math, reading, writing and analytical skills; problem solving ability; computer and software proficiency, or any other job-related knowledge, skill, ability or qualification. The examination process and dates are subject to change. The City may, without notice, change or eliminate any assessment component as needs dictate. Applicants passing all examination phases will have their names placed on an employment eligible list that hiring departments will use to conduct final selection interviews.

The Department

The Human Services Department (HSD) delivers and supports services by forging long-term community partnerships; engaging with and building the capacity of the community to do its own problem- solving; and leveraging financial and volunteer resources.  The Aging and Family Services Division (AFS) of HSD specifically supports older residents and their caregivers to live active, healthy lives in the Tri-City community.

The Position

As a member of the HSD assigned to the AFS, the Senior Program Coordinator will organize, coordinate, and implement community wellness programs for older adults. The Community Programs include health promotion activities such as health screenings, wellness classes, and educational activities. The position works within a team that includes volunteers, health promoters, nurses, social workers and mental health workers. The position facilitates community awareness and partnerships, with individuals and agencies, to promote an age-friendly environment.

The Yuba County Sheriff’s Department is currently recruiting for two full-time Animal Care Services Officer. Under close supervision, incumbents enforces State and County laws regarding stray, dangerous, rabid, nuisance and unwanted domestic animals; investigates complaints; patrols assigned areas; captures animals; removes dead animals from public and private properties; assist in feeding and cleaning animal enclosures; assist with euthanizations and disposal of animals in a humane and prescribed method and performs other duties related to humane animal protection and control; performs related work as assigned including assisting the public with drop off, pick up and adoption of animals as necessary.  This is a working level class in animal control, responsible for enforcing applicable regulations in a limited public officer capacity. Responds to questions from the public about animal breeds, temperament and adoptions;  advises public on appropriate choices for adoption and the proper care, treatment and control of animals.
 
Cleans, disinfects and maintains kennels and kennel area; performs dishwashing and laundering tasks.
 
Maintains a computerized log and record of all animals at shelter.
 
Reports any animals exhibiting symptoms of ill health or communicable disease.
 
Maintains inventories and supplies of food, medicines and controlled drugs, completing the necessary forms.

Assists in supervising volunteers.
