THE POSITION

Assistant and Associate Engineering Technicians perform office and field engineering functions in connection with public works activities. The current vacancy is assigned to Construction Inspection and will perform field inspections of public works projects, developments, and activities requiring permits and inspection; and inspects grading, underground utilities, City water mains, sewers, storm drains, curbs, gutters, paving, irrigation systems, streetlights, and other infrastructure construction for conformance with regulatory standards, plans, and specifications. The Assistant Engineering Technician is the entry level classification in the series, and the Associate Engineering Technician is the journey level classification in the Engineering Technician series, with responsibility for more complicated technical tasks.

Examples of duties and responsibilities may include:

• Performs field inspections of public works projects, developments, and activities requiring permits and inspection
• Inspects grading, underground utilities, City water mains, sewers, storm drains, curbs, gutters, paving, irrigation systems, street lights, and other infrastructure construction for conformance with regulatory standards, plans, and specifications
• Maintains daily written records of progress made in construction and materials used
• Makes progress payments, writes change orders, and performs other contract administration duties on routine public works projects
• Assists contractors and the public in interpreting and complying with construction requirements
• Prepares monthly progress payment records
• Issues stop work orders when necessary
• Checks compliance of contractors with local, regional, state, and federal regulations including those governing wages and payroll
• Investigates and resolves citizen complaints regarding construction work on City facilities
• Enforces safety regulations

The Emergency Dispatcher I/II position in the Sheriff’s Department performs a variety of difficult work in the provision of 24-hour-per-day, seven-days-per-week public safety emergency dispatch service, including all 911 communications. Emergency Dispatcher I is the entry level class in the Emergency Dispatcher series.  It differs from Emergency Dispatcher II in that the II level is fully trained as a dispatcher and may provide training for the Dispatcher I. This position is scheduled for forty (40) hours per week.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Receives incoming calls from the public; determines type of assistance required, including law enforcement, fire or ambulance personnel, etc., and dispatches emergency and non-emergency radio and telephone communications to appropriate jurisdictions and agencies.
• Operates a law enforcement 911 communications network.
• Maintains radio communications with field personnel as necessary to relay messages and information, and to determine the location and safety of field personnel.
• Performs a variety of clerical duties as required, including but not limited to answering business telephones; processing and/or maintaining department records, including case files; compiling information and statistics for reports; preparing criminal history reports; entering/cancelling/retrieving data on computer; ordering supplies, copying and filing documents, etc.
• Processes civil, misdemeanor, juvenile and felony warrants.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:

Equivalent to graduation from a college or university with a Master's degree in Library Science and three (3) years of experience as a professional librarian. Progressively responsible related experience may be substituted for the college coursework on a year-for-year basis.

A valid California driver's license is desirable. Must be able to work evenings and weekends.

The Department

The Human Services Department (HSD) delivers and supports services by forging long-term community partnerships; engaging with and building the capacity of the community to do its own problem- solving; and leveraging financial and volunteer resources.  The Aging and Family Services Division (AFS) of HSD specifically supports older residents and their caregivers to live active, healthy lives in the Tri-City community.

The Position

As a member of the HSD assigned to the AFS, the Senior Program Coordinator will organize, coordinate, and implement community wellness programs for older adults. The Community Programs include health promotion activities such as health screenings, wellness classes, and educational activities. The position works within a team that includes volunteers, health promoters, nurses, social workers and mental health workers. The position facilitates community awareness and partnerships, with individuals and agencies, to promote an age-friendly environment.

• Serve as a member of a departmental team providing programs and services designed to improve the quality of life of City residents.
• Administer one or more program areas.
• Assume direct responsibility for program design and implementation.
• Oversee day-to-day program operations.
