About the Position:  The focus is on the development and implementation of a wide variety of capital improvement projects to increase public access and enjoyment of District lands.  The ideal candidate should be an organized, creative, energetic, self-starter with excellent oral and written communication skills, who enjoys working in an outdoor open space setting within a collaborative group dynamic. The candidate is also expected to foster communication and collaboration with other District departments to coordinate project requirements, work with local jurisdictional agencies to fulfill project permitting requirements, interact with project design consultants and contractors, and maintain project documentation.

The Capital Project Manager II will support a project from final design development through construction. This position will focus on construction project management – evaluating the constructability of a project during design, assisting with bidding, award of contract and managing construction oversight to completion.  Applicants with construction inspection, civil engineering, and/or construction management backgrounds are desirable. The Capital Project Manager III will support a project from planning and conceptual design and take a lead role from design development through construction.  This position will focus on project management – evaluating the constructability of a project during planning and conceptual design, and leading the design development and engineering, permitting, CEQA mitigation compliance, bidding, contracting and construction oversight to completion. The Capital Project Manager III provides project presentations to the Board of Directors, Board Committees, and at public meetings. Applicants with engineering, landscape architecture, construction inspection, and/or construction management backgrounds are desirable.

Work Environment:  This position will operate in the Engineering and Construction Department at the District’s office in Los Altos, California.  Capital Project Managers will often work in the field, and hike steep terrain and wildland areas with poison oak and wildlife. Fieldwork will require driving in remote areas on dirt roads, working in temperatures ranging from cold and blustery to hot and dry. Ideal candidates will be comfortable working in these types of field conditions, as well as in an office environment.

Education and Experience:  Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:  Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in civil or structural engineering, construction management, landscape architecture, or a related field, and:

Capital Project Manager II: three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in construction design, construction, and inspection preferably in parks, open space, or related field.

Capital Project Manager III: five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in project management preferably in parks, open space, or related field.  A Master’s Degree in an Engineering, Architecture, or Geology discipline and/or a professional license (PE, PG, Landscape Architect, Architect) is highly desirable.
 

Licenses & Certifications Required:   Possession of a valid California Driver’s License.

Responsibilities: Under direct supervision of the Recreation Fitness Specialist, is responsible for group instruction of Spinning fitness classes, utilizing Spinning or Indoor Cycling Certification training, and must possess a current CPR/AED certification. Internship Opportunity:

The City of Los Altos Recreation and Community Services Department has ongoing internship opportunities for current college students who have completed their coursework and are looking to fulfill their undergraduate program internship requirements to obtain a B.S. or B.A degree in Recreation, similar field or meet other personal career enhancement goals. Interns will work closely with one or more members of the Recreation Management Team and will have an opportunity to develop skills and practical on-the-job experience in a dynamic and diverse public service environment while promoting an understanding of local municipal government. The Recreation staff will work with each student to develop a successful and rewarding experience.

 

Description of Duties:

Under general supervision and guidance, the intern will plan, develop, and implement selected programs, services or projects. Examples of projects include assisting in the planning and coordination of community events, recreation programming, park and facility projects, policy updates and implementation, marketing, public engagement, research and analysis. This includes working with City staff, department Commissions, the public and community partners.

The intern will also aide in the production and distribution of program fliers, brochures and promotional materials as well as assist with recruiting and training efforts. The intern will gain experience in the agency’s methods for the development of policies, procedures, marketing, customer service, registration, community engagement, collaborations, planning, assessing, and budgeting, analysis, feasibility studies and program evaluations. Example programming areas include special interest classes, tiny tots, teens, seniors, youth and adult sports, camps, aquatics, facility rentals and special events. Example park projects include the development of a new Community Center, dog park, and a variety of other facility improvements. The intern will participate in department, community, commission and staff meetings.

 

Special Project:

Per guidelines provided by a specific academic curriculum, the intern will complete a minimum of one special project during the internship experience. The supervisor and intern will jointly determine the project and scope. The project should be mutually beneficial to the student as well as the City of Los Altos Recreation and Community Services Department.

 

Optional Camp Experience (Winter/Spring and Summer only):

• Winter/Spring Interns may assist in the planning of camp programs including summer programming, paperwork, administrative tasks, budget preparation, and other related items.

 

• Summer Interns may be directly involved with the camp program by: assisting with planning for the summer, participate in administrative team meetings, leading activities, and assisting with day to day operations. Happy Hollow Park & Zoo (HHPZ) is a 16-acre amusement park and Association of Zoo's & Aquariums (AZA) accredited zoo located in San José, California. Happy Hollow is open year-round catering to families with children. It operates eight amusement park rides, displays various endangered species, and operates one of the oldest classical puppet theaters in California, as well as offering many other playgrounds and attractions emphasizing play and imagination in a natural conservation setting.

Under the direction of the Amusement Park Supervisor, the Rides & Attractions Safety Coordinator position is responsible for multiple park operational areas such as customer service, concessions, cash handling, ride maintenance/inspections, playground maintenance/inspections, and puppet theater productions.
 

This is a highly visible City wide facility and program with focus on the day to day safety operations for the rides and attractions at Happy Hollow Park & Zoo.
 

This position regularly works weekends, evenings, and holidays, during all climatic conditions as assigned.

 

Rides & Attractions Safety Coordinator job duties include:

- Prepare reports, evaluations, memorandums, and correspondences

 

 

-Initiate, maintain, and develop effective working relationships with ground maintenance, park rangers, zoo staff, Public Works, ride & playground manufacturers and state inspectors to foster good relations and partnerships to ensure consistent guest safety.

 

-Initiate, establish, and implement policies and procedures as they relate to Ride and Playground Safety regulations. Ensure compliance with California Department of Occupational Safety and Health (CAL DOSH) mandated (scheduled and unannounced) rides safety inspections, annual qualified safety inspection (QSI), records audit of rides maintenance and training. Provide oversight of operational procedures and create and update policies including ride operations manuals, emergency, and evacuation procedures, tag out/lock out procedures, certification sheets and training aids to ensure compliance with multiple ride manufacturers, state guidelines (CAL DOSH) and ASTM F-24 industry standards. Completion of records management function for mechanical, preventative, corrective, and modification maintenance.

 

- Direct, monitor and approve expenditures as allocated in the budget. Prepare and implement part time staff budgets for Rides and Attractions team. Recommend and help develop operating budget revenue projections and expenditures and monitors spending for personal and non-personal services. Supervise and assign Part Time staff, plan and coordinate training. Create work schedules and monitor work performance. Recommend employment, retention, promotion, demotion, and completes performance evaluations. Work with other co-workers, department staff and City departments to insure safer visitor and staff conditions.

The City of Gilroy is currently recruiting for one full-time Engineer at the I or II level depending on qualifications and experience, for the Land Development Section of the Public Works Engineering Division. This position is for a 3-year limited term.
 
Under direct supervision of the Senior Civil Engineer, the Land Development Engineer performs professional or sub-professional engineering work in the field and office involving the design, investigation, development and construction of a wide variety of public works facilities, and engineering projects.
 
The Land Development Engineer will assist in the review and processing of: land development projects, plans for conformance to City standards and policies, storm water management plans with City consultants, preparation of City plan check comments, and construction material submittals. The Public Works Department is currently recruiting for a Communications Technician for the Radio Communications Shop. The Radio Communications shop maintains the communication system for the City of San José that is used by multiple departments, such as: Police, Fire, Department of Transportation, Parks Recreation Neighborhood Services (Park Rangers), and Public Works (Animal Care & Services). The City of San José public safety and city services depend upon the use of commercial radio communications equipment. For police officers and firefighters, radio communications are the primary means of communicating with the 9-1-1 dispatch center in performing their duties. These vast stand-alone radio systems with fault-tolerant designs are essential to providing the public with reliable emergency response services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with demand for system survivability through any catastrophic event. 

Responsibilities of the Communications Technician include, but are not limited to:
+ Installation, maintenance and repair of mobile and portable radios, base and control stations, dispatch consoles, central electronic banks (CEB), voting receivers and comparators, digital Microwave system and P25 conventional and trunked Land Mobile Radio (LMR) systems.
 + Respond to trouble reports, perform preventative maintenance and project assignments.
 + May update technical documentation including wiring block assignments, as-built drawings of installed equipment at City radio sites, specialized vehicular installations, and diagrams of the City’s various communications systems.

City of Gilroy is recruiting for one (1) part-time Recreation Specialist for the Senior Center. The goal of the Senior Center is to provide active leisure and social opportunities for Gilroy seniors that promote good health and excellent nutrition to enhance the lives of participants. The main goal of the Recreation Department is to offer excellent recreation programs that provide community members with a wide-range of opportunities to celebrate life and community through people, parks, programs, and special events which are delivered by a team of employees dedicated to offering quality recreational, social, and cultural services to all Gilroy residents.
 
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
 
Under general supervision of a Recreation Supervisor or Recreation Coordinator, plan, organize, and direct the physical, recreational, and social activities of assigned recreation programs. Program areas include, but are not limited to, adult sports, youth sports, adult special classes, youth special classes, pre-school, therapeutics, recreation facilities, special events, seniors, museum, cultural arts, summer camps, and aquatics. This position may be a year round part-time position or seasonal position. This classification is distinguished from the Lead Recreation Leader classification based upon the required education and experience and range/scope of work assigned. Further, this is a professional-level part-time position supporting the Recreation Department.   ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK:
 
The following are examples of work that apply to all Recreation Specialist though some work may vary based on assigned program areas.
 
1.  PROGRAMMING:

1. Coordinate, facilitate, and lead assigned recreation program(s) including development of program, hiring of part-time staff, supervision and training of part-time staff and unpaid volunteers, resolving program issues, and ensuring that assigned program is delivered as planned.
2. Seeks guidance and direction from Recreation Coordinator and/or Recreation Supervisor when needed.
3. Respond to inquiries and resolve concerns/issues regarding their assigned program areas.
4. Create program and department surveys to collect data, and obtain customer feedback experience.
5. Review and document the progress and effectiveness of specific and assigned recreation programs; develop and present recommendations for change.
6. Assist Recreation Coordinator and/or Recreation Supervisor in the facilitation of special events such as the Kids-Triathlon, Breakfast with Santa and/or National Night Out.
7. Recruit program participants and volunteers.
8. Observe program areas to insure cleanliness and safe, proper use of facilities and equipment.
9. Promote programs and events via preparation of brochures, flyers, social media efforts, and other venues for community outreach.

2.  OFFICE TASKS:

1. Perform a variety of clerical and administrative support functions for assigned program area as needed.
2. Write, review, edit, and await supervisor approval of written program materials before general public distribution.
3. Maintain basic program budgets for revenue and expenditure ledgers.
4. Keep activity and attendance records
5. Participate in citywide and recreation related training programs.
6. Provide assistance and support on special projects and events as assigned.
7. Maintain, monitor, purchase, and organize supplies, inventory, and equipment for assigned programs.

3.  SUPERVISION:

1. Maintain and monitor staff hours and staff budgets.
2. Review, approve, and submit Electronic Timesheets to supervisor for processing.
3. Ensure employees understand staff expectations and program budget limits.
4. Ensure that staff and their designated programs function safely in accordance with city safety standards and policies.
5. Schedule and lead part-time staff meetings and/or training on a regular basis.
6. Produce meeting agendas and keep minutes of meetings.
7. Recruit and utilize volunteers to support program delivery.
8. Render first aid in the event of injury, along with completing and submitting an accident report.
9. May serve as Acting Recreation Coordinator as assigned.

4.  Drive City vehicles as assigned.

5.  Perform related work as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High school diploma, GED or equivalent AND sixty (60) semester units (or equivalent quarter units) from an accredited college or university.  An additional year (a third year) of related paid work experience can substitute for up to thirty (30) of the semester college units noted above. 
2. Two years of paid work experience working in a recreation program-type setting.
3. Must have experience supervising children, teens, adults, and/or seniors and communicating with parents and the public. 
4. Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office software programs such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher.
5. Strong verbal and written communication skills to perform assigned work.
6. Valid tuberculosis (TB) Certificate.
7. Possess (within 12 months of hire) and maintain a valid First Aid and CPR/AED certification.
8. Possess and maintain a valid California Driver License along with a safe driving record necessary to operate assigned vehicle(s).
9. Pass a post-offer medical examination, which includes a drug test.
10. Pass an employment background check including a Department of Justice criminal record check. 
11. Prefer non-tobacco user.
12. Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
