THE POSITION: 
This non-benefitted position performs sorting, shelving and straightening, and related manual work in support of library services. Please see the attached job specifications for full details about this position. Spanish bilingual skills desired. TYPICAL TASKS include, but are not limited to: 

• Sorts and shelves various types of library materials; maintains shelves in proper order and appearance (e.g. shelf facing).
• Shelf reads and corrects sorting errors on bookshelves; relocates library materials as required.
• Retrieves library materials from book drops or other deposit areas.
• Keeps library premises clean and in good order, collects loose books and materials, and performs item counting for check out statistics.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience: Demonstrated ability to read and the ability to file or learn to file alphabetically and numerically.  At least 16 years old, and the ability to obtain a work permit if required. Spanish bilingual skills desired.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Incumbents must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull items, storage containers, and shelving units weighing an average of 20 pounds, and up to 50 pounds of weight, in order to move materials from one place to another, with the aid of lifting/moving equipment.
 
SALARY RANGE:               $18.08/hour

The City of East Palo Alto is seeking qualified candidates for a Building Inspector I/II. Under direct or general supervision, the Building Inspector I/II performs routine to complex inspections at various stages of construction, alterations, and repair of residential, commercial, and industrial building sites to enforce building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and environmental codes, and other governing laws and ordinances. The Risk Management Program Manager (Program Manager), reporting to the Deputy Director of Human Resources/ Risk Manager, will oversee the following three programs:

Examples Of Duties

Duties of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Plan, direct, monitor, and evaluate the effectiveness of the ADA Title I, Leave of Absence, and Workers' Compensation functions and programs, including needs assessment, program design and planning, implementation, evaluation, and regulatory enforcement.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.

• A typical way to qualify is three years of progressively responsible professional-level experience in the field of Human Resources within a public-sector environment, specifically regarding ADA in general and Title I specifically, Leave of Absence, Workers' Compensation, and insurance policies.
• Experience should also include at least one year performing supervisory duties.

Knowledge of:

• Principles and practices of public administration, and program management, including planning, implementation, and evaluation.
• Principles, theories, and practices of human resource management relative to the Americans with Disabilities Act, FMLA, Workers' Compensation, Long-Term Disability, etc.

THE POSITION

General Purpose:
This Recreation Aide position will be assigned to the Family Programs area assisting Recreation Leaders in providing support for the After-School Recreation program.
 
Supervision Received and Exercised:
Receive general supervision from a Recreation Coordinator and may receive technical and/or functional supervision from a Recreation Leader or Program Specialist.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties are normal for this classification.  The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to this class.

• Assist in leading recreation activities in program areas such as preschool, playground, parks, teens, sports, special events, and senior citizen activities.
• Assist in carrying out recreational activities appropriate to a variety of locations such as playgrounds, parks, community centers, pre-school classrooms, school sites, and sports facilities.  
• Assist in leading activities in areas such as arts and crafts, games, sports, music, drama, and nature study.
• Assist in setting up, taking down, and cleaning up recreational facilities; as assigned, open and close facilities as scheduled for use, and secure the facility upon leaving.
• May provide minor first aid to recreation program participants and/or perform related first aid/emergency techniques.

We have exciting internship opportunities available at the City of Millbrae’s Public Works Department.  The Public Works Department is looking to hire two (2) interns for the Engineering Division. This is an open-ended internship without a specific term. The working schedule is to be determined based on business needs and candidate availability, and no more than 1,000 hours in a fiscal year.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in an office environment in close proximity to other workers.  Incumbent shall be exposed to those conditions normally encountered in a business office environment.  Physical demands require frequent standing, reaching, leaning, twisting, grasping, lifting and sitting for prolonged periods of time.  Must carry moderately heavy boxes up to 50 pounds and/or utilize a dolly.  Incumbent must be able to drive safely to various City sites.  Incumbent must be able to see and hear in the normal range, with or without correction.  Incumbent must have the stamina to work long hours and overtime, if assigned, and be willing to work an irregular schedule, which might include evenings, weekends, holidays, and varying hours.

THE POSITION

Perform professional civil engineering work in the planning, design, technical investigation, and construction of projects in public works, transportation, capital improvements, and structural engineering. An example of duties include:

Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in civil engineering or a closely related field;

Possession of a current Engineer-in-Training Certificate, issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers, and one (1) year of professional civil engineering experience.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with a group of dedicated professionals who are helping to change the literacy landscape in Sonoma County. Under direction of the Adult Services Administrator and the Supervising Literacy Program Coordinator, this position coordinates and administers tutor services for the Adult Literacy Services Program (ALS), recruits and provides orientations, training and in-service workshops to tutors for various adult literacy programs, and provides on-going coaching and support for tutors.
 
TYPICAL TASKS include, but are not limited to:

• Organizes, conducts and evaluates orientations, trainings and in-service workshops for tutors of adult learners; organizes conversation classes and determines the schedule and use of the student computer. 
• Recruits, selects, supervises, supports and encourages tutors; plans and implements methods to both recruit and retain tutors.
• Provides tutors with all instructional resources and materials needed to work with the student and provides ongoing support to the tutor for the duration of their service.
• Plans and organizes events in support of the Sonoma County Library adult literacy programs; participates in public meetings.

Education: Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in education, public administration or related fields. Experience: A combination of education and experience that creates an understanding of adult illiteracy. Generally, this would be achieved by two (2) years of administrative or programmatic experience including one year of library or literacy experience.  Experience working with adults in an educational setting. Spanish bilingual skills preferred.

What You'll Do

The Public Works Department is responsible for the City's major capital projects and infrastructure including streets, sidewalks, streetlights, traffic signals, sewer and storm conveyance systems, and pump stations.  The Department is also responsible for the efficient management of the City's traffic operations and review of right-of-way impacts associated with private developments.

Transportation is and continues to be of importance to our Department and the community.  Traffic congestion plagues many of the peninsula cities.  Belmont has taken a proactive approach by continuously looking for transportation improvements, such as roundabout design, multimodal enhancements, and an adaptive signal operation system on our main East-West connection, Ralston Avenue.  Another pivotal project is the development of a citywide Transportation Master Plan, to help guide the City for its future growth.

Private development has grown significantly in the City the last 5 years, including biolife sciences, housing, and mixed-use developments.  Most notable are the Conceptual Development Plan and Development for the Belmont Stanford Campus at Notre Dame de Namur University and the Annexation of the Harbor Industrial Area from the County of San Mateo.

This invitation is focused on recruiting a Senior Engineer for private development and permitting services.  Key assignments include leading staff and managing consultants and contractors through the private development process, as well as managing the permitting services.  However, the Senior Engineer may be assigned to work in any of the work areas mentioned above.

In addition, the Senior Engineer assists in preparing and monitoring operating budgets in connection with assigned programs and contract management.  Effective communication skills and the ability to recognize the interconnectedness of the various civil disciplines and stakeholders are critical to the success of this position.  This position is public-facing and may be needed in planning commissions and city council meetings.  This position involves direct supervision of a growing team of 3-4 staff members, which may include engineers, engineering technicians, and contract staff.

Generally, the Senior Civil Engineer supervises, assigns, reviews, and participates in the work of staff responsible for performing professional and technical engineering services in the design and management of public works capital improvement projects, private development, permitting and other services, ensuring high work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures.

Positions at this level are distinguished from other classes within the series by the level of responsibility assumed and the complexity of duties assigned.  Employees perform the most difficult and responsible types of duties assigned to classes within this series, including management of the most complex engineering projects or exercising lead direction over lower-level staff.  Employees at this level are required to be fully trained in all procedures related to assigned area of responsibility.

The responsibilities and duties of the Senior Civil Engineer may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, review, and participate in the work of staff responsible for providing professional engineering services in the design and management of public works capital improvement projects.
• Establish schedules and methods for providing engineering services, identify resource needs, review needs with appropriate management staff, and allocate resources accordingly.
• Participate in the development of policies and procedures, monitor work activities to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures, and make recommendations for changes and improvement to existing standards and procedures.
• Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives and implement approved policies and procedures.
• Perform the more technical and complex tasks of the work unit, including management and administration of construction and professional services contracts.
• Supervise and participate in the work of lower-level engineering staff in the preparation of project plans, specification, cost estimates, and contract administration for capital projects.
• Supervise and participate in the inspection of capital projects, ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations and provide resolutions to construction problems.
• Prepare and/or review professional civil engineering designs for assigned projects utilizing a variety of computer software programs, perform detailed calculations and computations, and prepare and/or review the adequacy and accuracy of computations, preliminary layouts, and design work from field and survey data.
• Review and approve changes to approved plans and specifications and process a variety of permits.
• Exercise professional engineering judgment in accordance with current accepted practice of civil engineering and appropriate laws and codes.
• Participate in the selection of technical engineering staff, provide or coordinate staff training, work with employees to correct deficiencies, and implement discipline procedures.
• Participate in the preparation and administration of assigned engineering program budget, submit budget recommendations and monitor expenditures.
