TYPE OF APPOINTMENT: PROVISIONAL (TPV)

This is not a permanent appointment. A provisional appointee must participate and be successful in a Civil Service Examination process for this classification and be selected through an open competitive process in order to be considered for a permanent appointment. Job Description

Under general supervision, the Tool Room Mechanic and Custodian is responsible for keeping, issuing, receiving and repairing tools and equipment utilized by the Airport’s Custodial Services unit; preventing minor losses through the safeguarding of tools and equipment; and keeping records of items received, issued and on hand; performs related duties as required.

1. Inspects tools and trouble-shoot equipment used in the cleaning maintenance program at San Francisco International Airport 
2. Maintains and repairs tools and equipment including assembly, disassembly, cleaning, ordering new parts and reassembly, including electrical and mechanical equipment.
3. Performs safety checks on tools and equipment.
4. Checks on tools and equipment returned for defective parts; orders replacements of supplies and stock items as required.
5. Repairs/replaces hoses, belts, electric plugs and electrical extension cords, on/off switches and replacing equipment fuses.
6. Repairs/replaces various wheels, filters, squeegee assemblies and squeegees on equipment.
7. Maintains custodial equipment through assisting/training staff regarding regular maintenance of janitorial equipment.
8. Performs and maintains custodial preventive maintenance program.  
9. Provides data to update tool and equipment repair database.  
10. Provides input regarding necessary replacement cycles and inventory of necessary repair parts.
11. Works in cooperation with current vendors and other repair facilities with regard to repair of larger pieces of cleaning equipment.

Nature of work requires some physical effort and dexterity in the use of fingers, limbs and body; intermittent exposure to working conditions where minor injuries may occur.

Requires completion of eight (8) years of elementary school, supplemented by at least one (1) year of experience in general mechanical maintenance and repair work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

THE POSITION

General Purpose:
This Recreation Aide position will be assigned to the Family Programs area assisting Recreation Leaders in providing support for the After-School Recreation program.
 
Supervision Received and Exercised:
Receive general supervision from a Recreation Coordinator and may receive technical and/or functional supervision from a Recreation Leader or Program Specialist.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist in leading recreation activities in program areas such as preschool, playground, parks, teens, sports, special events, and senior citizen activities.

• Assist in leading activities in areas such as arts and crafts, games, sports, music, drama, and nature study.
• Assist in setting up, taking down, and cleaning up recreational facilities; as assigned, open and close facilities as scheduled for use, and secure the facility upon leaving.
• May provide minor first aid to recreation program participants and/or perform related first aid/emergency techniques.
• Exercise precautions necessary to ensure the safety of recreation program participants and spectators.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public using principles of good customer service.
• Set up furniture or equipment for activities scheduled and see that it is in proper condition and is replaced after use.
• Monitor activities of facility users for appropriate and safe conduct.
• Clean up after facility users and set up for subsequent activities; sweep and mop floors as required, empty trash receptacles throughout the facility, as necessary; keep restrooms and kitchen clean and well stocked with paper towels, tissues, etc.
• Collect fees from public swimming pool patrons and aquatics class registrants, and issue pool passes.
• Complete daily attendance and cash receipt report forms.
• Answer the telephone, provide information to callers and write messages, as needed.
• Assist customers at the front counter. 
• Perform general clerical work such as issuing receipts, photocopying, and filing; complete and submit required forms and reports.
• Clean and sanitize workstation and equipment.
• Assist in conducting preschool class activities in areas such as arts and crafts, games, music, or story time.
• Notify appropriate City staff regarding necessary repair and/or replacement of play areas/related equipment.

The California Children's Services (CCS) Medical Therapy Unit (MTU) is seeking a Full-Time Physical Therapist to provide a full range of physical therapy treatments/services to children with physical disabilities from birth to 21 years at special education sites. • Design and construct, or supervise construction of, specialized equipment or orthotics.
• Provide expertise regarding therapeutic management during clinic, staff conference, Individual Education Plan (IEP) and Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) meetings, and parent meetings.
• Provide ongoing assessment and documentation of the child’s response to treatment in accordance with state California Children’s Services standards.
• Participate in discharge planning and refer parents to community services.
• Determine need for department and patient-related supplies and equipment.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of treatment areas.
• May participate as clinical preceptor in a university affiliated physical therapy student program.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Licensure/Certification:

• Eligibility for or licensure as a Physical Therapist by the Physical Therapy Board of California. Failure to obtain licensure within twelve months of employment may result in termination.

Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:

Physical Therapist I, CCS: Graduation from an approved school of physical therapy.

Physical Therapist II, CCS: One year of supervised experience in pediatric physical therapy.

Knowledge of:

• Principles and methods of physical therapy.
• Neuromuscular function and dysfunction, kinesiology, psychology and the basic pathology involved in cerebral palsy and other medically eligible conditions.
• Objectives of physical therapy treatment for children with physical disabilities.
• Family centered therapy.
• Growth and development of children.
• Construction, use and care of orthopedic appliances and equipment.
• Available resources for adaptive equipment and indications for appropriate use.
• Community resources for children with disabilities and their families.

Skill/Ability to:

• Evaluate and develop a treatment plan for children with various disabilities.
• Document findings, progress and recommendations in progress reports and daily running notes.
• Administer physical therapy treatments.
• Explain and teach physical therapy activities to children, parents, health care professionals, local school authorities and other interested persons.
• Instruct others in the use of the home program.
• Analyze situations accurately and implement an effective plan of action.
• Prepare reports and keep records of case histories.
• Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Act as a consultant/trainer for educational and other staff.
• Provide suitable transportation between work sites.
• Lift or assist with lifting children and equipment.

Anyone may apply. Current County of San Mateo and County of San Mateo Superior Court of California employees with at least six months (1040 hours) of continuous service in a classified regular, probationary, Confidential and Management extra-help/limited term, and SEIU or AFSCME represented extra help/limited term positions prior to the final filing date will receive five points added to their final passing score on this examination.

The examination will consist of an application screening (weight: pass/fail) based solely on the candidate's application and responses to the supplemental questions. Depending on the number of applicants, an application appraisal of education and experience may be used in place of other examinations, or further evaluation of work experience may be conducted to group applicants by level of qualification. All applicants who meet the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through any subsequent phase of the examination. All examinations will be given in San Mateo County, California, and applicants must participate at their own expense.

This position will perform a variety of responsible law enforcement and crime prevention work, including patrolling assigned areas, answering calls and complaints, investigating crimes, serving civil papers, and providing court room security; enforce all federal and state laws and local ordinances related to public safety and welfare.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Performs routine patrol duties, including but not limited to patrolling assigned areas of the County; responding to emergency calls and/or public calls for assistance; investigating disturbances, prowlers, burglaries, thefts, vehicle accidents and other crimes; checking buildings for physical security, etc.

• Administers first aid in emergency situations.

• Issues traffic citations.

• Serves warrants, subpoenas and civil documents.

• Apprehends and arrests suspects and violent persons; transports prisoners; seizes property and/or criminal evidence; interrogates suspects, witnesses and complainants; gathers and preserves evidence.

• Assists with County search and rescue operations.

• Prepares various reports on investigations, including arrest and unusual incidents observed.

• Assists with criminal investigations as required.

• Prepares case files; testifies and presents evidence in court.

• Works with other law enforcement agencies in matters related to the investigation of crimes and apprehension of offenders.

• May serve as special duty officer as assigned, including responsibilities such as serving on the narcotics task force, serving as Deputy Coroner, providing court security, serving as school resource officer, serving as K-9 handler, serving on gang task force, etc.

• Participates in other special projects and programs as assigned.

• Performs duties related to crime prevention and community relations.

• Performs general administrative work, including but not limited to attending meetings, preparing correspondence and reports, entering computer data, maintaining files, answering the phone, etc..
