We're seeking an Industrial Hygienist to join our Safety & Health team at the San Francisco International Airport (SFO). In this position, you'll handle challenging industrial hygiene tasks related to hazardous materials and other health and environmental risks at the Airport. You'll independently conduct regular monitoring of chemical, biological, and physical agents, while also serving as a technical expert and consultant in implementing occupational safety and health regulations. Your responsibilities include assessing industrial hygiene data concerning public health matters, designing and delivering occupational health and safety training sessions, responding to and assessing hazardous materials incidents, conducting ergonomic assessments, and fulfilling any other related duties as needed.

Essential Duties: 

• Serves as a technical advisor to departmental management and other personnel in identifying, containing, and regulating the use and storage of hazardous materials; in developing and implementing inspection practices and procedures.
• Investigates and evaluates health and safety hazards and coordinates remedial action with representatives from various City and County departments, other agencies, businesses, and the public; conducts surveys of potentially hazardous workplace operations, including monitoring for physical, biological, and chemical agents, evaluating results, recommending corrective actions and preparing reports.
• Anticipates, identifies, evaluates, and controls occupational safety and health and environmental hazards for personnel working in proximity to hazardous waste remediation or hazardous materials.
• Develops, modifies, and/or maintains health and safety programs for City and County of San Francisco personnel.
• Develop policies and procedures for responding to hazardous materials incidents and implementation of environmental health and safety laws, codes, and regulations.
• Develops and conducts health and safety training, and conducts programs concerning the proper use, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials and the regulation of hazardous materials according to law.
• Performs assessments to identify and resolve ergonomic issues in a variety of work settings.
• Advises program and departmental management on matters about public health and safety, the handling and containment of hazardous materials incidents, and evaluation procedures.
• Provides technical support in identifying, preventing, and controlling health, environmental, and safety hazards.
• Coordinates compliance with applicable laws, policies, procedures, and regulations.
• Assists in administrative tasks related to the implementation of ordinances, codes, and other regulations.
• Maintains technical reference materials and records compiles data and prepares reports.
• Maintains Respiratory Protection Program, including recommending appropriate respiratory protection, fit testing, and coordinating medical examinations, and maintaining records.
• Conducts and participates in meetings with professional and business groups concerning industrial hygiene and hazardous materials matters.
• Leads industrial hygiene programs – hazard communication, hearing conservation, exposure control, hazardous waste, respiratory protection, ergonomics, radiofrequency
• May supervise industrial hygiene, health and safety, environmental, and/or support staff.

These minimum qualifications establish the education, training, experience, special skills and/or license(s) which are required for employment in the classification. Education:

Possession of a Master's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety and Health; Environmental Sciences, Health, or Management; or a closely related field from an accredited college or university. Applicant’s college level (undergraduate or masters) coursework must include a minimum of 6 semesters of any combination of chemistry, biology, and/or physics.

Experience:

Two (2) years of professional industrial experience equivalent to the level of City and County of San Francisco classes 6137 Assistant Industrial Hygienist or higher, which must have included professional industrial hygiene activities including either hazardous materials management or identification, evaluation, and control of occupational health hazards, such as noise, radiation, asbestos, various chemicals, etc.

License and Certification:

Possession of a valid driver's license; if not a California driver's license ability to obtain a California Driver’s License within 45 days of hire.

Substitution:

Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Sciences, Health, or Management; Occupational Safety & Health; or in a closely related major (examples include but are not limited to toxicology; chemistry, physics; biology; or mechanical, chemical, or environmental engineering) which includes a minimum of 6 semesters of any combination of chemistry, biology, and/or physics, if accompanied by three (3) years of professional industrial experience equivalent to the level of City and County of San Francisco classes 6137 Assistant Industrial Hygienist or higher, which must have included professional industrial hygiene activities including either hazardous materials management or identification, evaluation, and control of occupational health hazards, such as noise, radiation, asbestos, various chemicals, etc.

OR

Certification by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene as a Certified Industrial Hygienist in the comprehensive practice of Industrial Hygiene may substitute for the required education and experience.

Planning, Building and Code Enforcement position:

The Public Information team works closely in support of each of the Department's divisions to provide information to the public and within the organization. ?The Department is currently seeking a highly qualified and experienced individual to fill the role of Public Information Manager. As the Public Information Manager, you will be responsible for developing and implementing public information strategies to effectively disseminate information to the public, media, and other stakeholders regarding the department's operations, policies, and initiatives.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent writing and presentation skills and have substantial experience with developing and executing effective communication plans using a wide range of appropriate tactics, including traditional and new media. Creativity, good judgment, initiative, and a collaborative attitude are essential, as well as the skills necessary in developing strategic partnerships, including with potential partners and donors, to ensure that equitable access to recreational opportunities are provided to all San José residents.

THE POSITION:
This extra-help, non-benefited position provides excellent customer service while performing a variety of professional all ages library services, including reference, reader’s advisory, collection development, event planning, outreach, digital literacy training for the public, and performs related work as assigned as replacement for regular staff who are on vacation or ill. Education and Experience: Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS), Master of Library Science (MLS), or Master of Science in Library Science (MSLS) degree from an accredited college or university. The Librarian II requires two years of appropriate professional experience working as a professional librarian, preferably in a public library. Must have a valid California driver’s license. Spanish bilingual skills are preferred.

What You’ll Do

• Perform skilled tasks in the mechanical repair and maintenance of diesel and gas-powered apparatus, vehicles, hydraulic systems for aerial ladders, and other like equipment.
• Accept assignments received in the form or oral or written communications.
• Determine the nature and extent of needed repairs, prioritize them, and perform necessary repairs.
• Inspect all department vehicles to ensure they meet proper safety protocols and are in standard working order.
• Maintain all vehicles to ensure safe working order for all employees.
• Perform regular servicing and preventative maintenance on all vehicles and apparatus including performing tune-ups, lube, oil, filter, Inspection, and chassis lubrication.
• Diagnose, service, maintain such things as: fire pumps, relief valves, and other control of plumbing equipment (proper certification required).
• Inspect, diagnose, and repair engines, power train components, transmissions, transfer cases, differentials, hydraulic and pneumatic brake systems, steering and suspension systems, and electrical systems.
• Perform welding and fabricating work when applicable.
• Operate all equipment and tools safely and efficiently.
• Perform routine shop maintenance and clean-up and dispose of hazardous materials according to established procedures.
• Keep records of work assignments for bookkeeping and tracking purposes.
• Potentially respond to unanticipated emergencies to make temporary and/or permanent repairs in the field.

THE JOB

Woodside Cadets will work and be involved in:

Emergency calls, firefighter training, public education events, fire prevention, station duties, CERPP, CPR/first aid training. They must also meet monthly hour requirements and attend monthly training drills.

The Cadet term begins in July 1st 2024 through June 30th 2025.

Cadets must have a valid EMT certification, proof of medical insurance and a valid California driver license in order to apply.
