Under general supervision, performs a variety of general clerical duties in support of an assigned department/division.

THE POSITION

The Human Resources Manager, an at-will position, under general direction of the Assistant City Manager, recommends, develops, implements and evaluates goals, objectives, policies and procedures related to assigned human resource program functions, such as benefits, classification and compensation, recruitment and selection, among others. Consults and collaborates with City departments, employees, labor organizations, commissions, advisory boards and the public on relevant aspects of assigned program area. This is a management classification located in the City’s central Human Resources Division with overall responsibility for the day-to-day operations, which has Citywide impact. The Human Resources Division is comprised of 4.0 FTE (1) Human Resources Manager, (1) Senior Human Resources Analyst, (2) Human Resources Analysts, who come together to support the full-service City-wide efforts of over 200.75 FTE and approximately 30 – 120 PTE.

 

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Interview, select, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate program staff.
• Write and review policies, procedures and methods relative to assigned program; formulate, recommend and/or implement actions for program improvement;
• Meet with department management and staff on human resource issues.
• Interpret and explain provisions of applicable laws, rules, policies and agreements to City management, employees, employee organizations and the public.
• Assist in the selection and management of vendors, consultants and service providers; oversee compliance of consultants and vendors with contract provisions.
• Advise managers and employees on City procedures, benefits, and existing policies relative to assigned program.
• Coordinate and administer program activities such as open enrollment, Citywide classification studies, and executive recruitments, among others.
• Participates in the establishment of strategic short-term and long-range program plans.
• Assist in the development of the program budget.
• Prepare detailed and professional reports and other written communications, including policies and procedures, policies, executive summaries and statistical data.
• Prepare and deliver oral presentations designed to educate and explain program services.
• Meet and/or negotiate with representatives of employee organizations.
• Collaborate with information systems staff to identify and evaluate assigned program's system/database needs and implement new systems or changes as necessary.
• Represent the department in meetings with the board, the executive team, labor organizations, and other community organizations or committees.
• Respond to inquiries, problems and complaints from applicants and hiring managers.
• Perform other related tasks as necessary.

San Mateo County Health's Public Health Policy & Planning (PHPP) Division has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Veterinarian to work in Animal Control and Licensing as a member of the team.
 
The current vacancy is extra help part time 20-hours per week in the Public Health, Policy and Planning Division. The position is stationed in San Mateo, CA, but will travel/drive throughout the County to perform duties of the position.
 
Scheduling is flexible. Daily reporting hours and days of the week may vary according to the needs of the department. Evening and weekend work may be required based on the needs of the organization. This position is a hybrid of remote work as well as field-based at clinics.
 
The Veterinary Wellness Program provides veterinary services to the pets of the unhoused, those in transitional housing, and very low-income San Mateo County residents who are receiving services from San Mateo County. This position works with San Mateo County Health and cross collaborates with other programs within the County. Technical expertise, as well as knowledge of veterinary public health practices, are preferred.
 
San Mateo County is unique in that most of our homeless shelters allow residents to bring their pets with them, not just an emotional support or service animal. One of the barriers for homeless people to get into a shelter with their pets is that their pet must be current on their vaccinations. Within 10 days of a new resident moving into a shelter with a pet, the County veterinarian will meet with the owner and their pet to provide a general exam, the necessary vaccinations and flea control. This position will visit various sites throughout the County on a regular basis, providing vaccines, flea control, antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, and general exams. In addition, the Veterinarian will travel to various homeless encampments to provide these services and to offer and encourage spaying and neutering of the pets.
 
When pets need additional care, this position will coordinate with local veterinary clinics we contract with for services. These contracts allow us to provide spay and neuter services, dental services, and many other procedures that the pet owner would not otherwise be able to afford. These vital veterinary services keep pets from being relinquished to animal shelters and provides peace of mind for the pet owner. In addition, our veterinary program partners with our Street Medicine Program to provide health care services to the pet owners, which advances San Mateo County’s One Health Concept.
 
This Veterinarian position will be providing technical/subject matter expertise on issues relating to the spread of zoonotic, epizootic, and exotic diseases, as well as consulting on cases of rabies in domestic and wild animals. The position will also act as a liaison between the veterinary community, Veterinary Public Health, California Department of Public Health, and residents of the County.
 
Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Provide lead direction to staff responsible for following prescribed treatment and maintaining treatment records for animals treated.
• Ensure that the highest level of service and care are provided and that changes in animals’ conditions are recorded and properly addressed.
• Examine and evaluate animals, and perform veterinary medical treatments, including vaccinations and preventative treatment as appropriate. 
• Coordinate with local veterinarians and clinic/shelter professionals to arrange spay and neuter surgeries and medical procedures.
• Arrange for care at a contracted veterinary hospital for severely injured, sick or diseased animals and provides full orders for care.
• Establishes and maintains medical records and drug use logs to standards of veterinary practices.
• Ensure that records are in order and complete and prepare written reports as needed; ensures that all State and Federal laws, regulations, accepted standards, are adhered to. 
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of shelter animal health protocols, surgical procedures, and companion animal health issues.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with the staff, community, local veterinarians, State Veterinarian. 
• Assist in the monitoring of inventory and ordering of medical supplies and pharmaceuticals.
• Serve as technical/subject matter expert to answer questions from the County Health Officer, medical community and the general public regarding issues related to/involving animals—including but not limited to researching, recommending, implementing and/or maintaining measures to prevent the spread of zoonotic diseases, epizootic diseases, exotic diseases and disease outbreaks. 
• Serve as a consultant in suspect cases of rabies in domestic and wild animals as well as complex issues deriving from animal bites.
• Review pertinent legislation, regulations, and policies to provide recommendations, especially with regards to vaccination of domestic animals, rabies vaccine exemptions, quarantine/euthanasia of animals exposed to rabies.
• Disseminate relevant information to the local veterinary community as well as to residents of the county. 
• Assist with emergencies and disaster services.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

 
Ideal candidate will possess:
•       Experience working one – two years as a Veterinarian.

• Experience in diagnosing and treating disease, illness, and injuries of dogs, cats, rabbits, and other animals. 
• Ability to test animals for disease and administer vaccines.
• Ability to evaluate condition and coordinate maintenance of equipment and supplies.
• Ability to help ensure the safe storage, access, and use of medications.
• Ability to develop and provide guidance on sanitary protocols, feeding, preventative medicine, and general care to promote the health of all animals.
• Ability to research and prepare medical reports for guidance of management upon request.
• Ability to write grant proposals for funding.
• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and residents of the community.
• Attend meetings and other meetings as requested or required.
• Obtain continuing education as required and be committed to staying up-to-date technically with industry best practices and applying learned knowledge.
• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with partner and contract providers.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

This is an extra-help, at-will assignment, paid on an hourly basis. Extra-help hours are dependent on the business needs of the department and therefore work hours may vary from week to week. Extra help employees shall not exceed 1,040 hours of work per fiscal year. Some extra help positions are eligible for benefits under the Affordable Care Act. Extra help employees are not guaranteed permanent status at the end of the assignment.

 

Qualifications

Licensure/Certification:

• Veterinarian license to practice in the State of California
• California class C driver license or equivalent. Must possess and maintain a good driving record.

The Water and Sewer Utilities Department is a utility enterprise that provides planning, design, construction, maintenance, and operation of the City's water distribution system, sewer collection system, and recycled water system. The Position: 
A Water Service Technician I performs routine water service duties and is responsible for the maintenance and testing of water meters, backflow prevention devices, and fire services, as well as the handling of customer complaints and service requests.

Minimum Qualifications

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum Requirements:
• Graduation from high school or possession of a GED; and
• One (1) year of experience in a water utility performing service work including the servicing, testing, and repairing of water meters or one (1) year of approved related technical experience with mechanical instruments

LICENSE
Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license is required.

CERTIFICATION
Possession of the following certificates is required within twelve (12) months of, and for the duration of, appointment:
• A valid Water Distribution Operator Certificate (Grade D-1 or above) issued by the California Department of Health Services; and
• A valid Backflow Prevention Tester Certificate issued by the California-Nevada Section of the American Water Works Association or the Foundation for Cross Connection Control and Hydraulic Research

The Opportunity: The Town of Los Gatos is recruiting for a Planner at the Associate or Senior level to perform a variety of professional planning work, research and analysis related to the Town’s Planning and Zoning Ordinances and assignments associated with land use, infrastructure, economic development, and the environment. Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of planning, as well as the physical, social, and economic concepts underlying planning functions, and the ability to present and explain these concepts to the public, is required. Planners are required to attend evening meetings and make public presentations to the Planning Commission, Town Council, and other stakeholders. 

 

• Associate Planner is the experienced journey level of the Planner series. Incumbents are assigned increasingly complex tasks, including planning projects of moderate complexity and scope. Work is performed in accordance with policies established by the Department Director, but considerable scope exists in which professional judgment may be exercised and technical decisions made. Incumbents are responsible for planning work that is technically difficult and requires the ability to independently interpret policies and to exercise sensitivity to public concerns.  
   
• Senior Planner is the advanced and supervisory classification of the Planner series. Incumbents are responsible for difficult planning work. Work is performed in accordance with policies established by the Department Director, but a great degree of latitude is given to exercise professional judgment and to make technical decisions. The Senior Planner supervises technical staff and manages large and complex planning projects involving difficult and sensitive policy issues. Senior Planners supervise and coordinate the work of assistant planners, planning technicians, and/or interns. 

Schedule: The normal workweek for this position is Monday through Friday, with evening meetings. This position is not eligible for a remote or hybrid work schedule. 

 

The City of Auburn is seeking a dedicated and proactive law enforcement professional to serve as the Chief of Police.

This position will lead our dedicated department and be instrumental in guiding our department through today’s and tomorrow’s challenges. What You Will Do

The Chief of Police is responsible for the planning, administration and operation of the APD under general administrative direction. Upon hire, the incumbent can expect to work closely with the City Manager, City Council, Placer County and community leaders to further learn, understand and address community public safety issues.

APD utilizes the Community-Oriented Policing philosophy and the Problem-Oriented Policing strategy to better serve the community. This includes serving with the Community Advisory Council and Community Action Team to connect with those who live, work and play in Auburn. Water Treatment/Distribution System Operator II
The Water Treatment/Distribution System Operator II is the journey level class expected to perform the full range of water system activities and related support duties with minimum supervision. Incumbent is responsible for the performance of the division’s complex and difficult assignments and may provide training to entry level staff. This classification is distinguished from the next higher classification of Senior Water Distribution/Treatment System Operator in that the latter is responsible for division supervision and performance of the divisions most complex tasks.
