DEFINITION
Under general supervision, performs skilled mechanical work in repairing, installing, maintaining, dismantling, and overhauling of mechanical and electrical equipment, performs maintenance of plant grounds and buildings, and does related work as assigned.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Performs installation, maintenance, replacement, and repair of pumps, motors, generators, and auxiliary equipment; levels and aligns equipment to prevent vibration; installs and connects instruments, gauges, tubing, pipes, instrument panels, switches and valves; dismantles pumps, motors, and generators and inspects for broken or worn parts, and makes appropriate adjustments, replacements and repairs; keeps records of repairs and maintenance services performed; maintains plant grounds and buildings.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of: The installation, operation and repair of pumps, motors, generators, and related equipment; mechanical ability and skill in the use of tools and materials involved in the installation, maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical equipment, use of hand tools and power equipment; basic addition and subtraction.
Ability to: Read, understand and work from blueprints, diagrams and installation sketches; diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical defects; understand and follow written and oral directions; prepare reports and keep accurate records; interact positively and cooperate with co-workers, respond politely to customers, work as a team member, function under demanding time pressure, respond in a positive manner to supervision, and attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis.
Education: Graduation from High School or equivalent.
Experience: One year of experience in the operation, maintenance and/or repair of electrical and mechanical equipment.
Physical Requirements: Moderate and sometimes strenuous exertion required, including sustained walking, standing, bending, climbing and lifting.
License: Possession of a valid Class C California Driver’s License (including acceptable driving record).
