This employment opportunity is excellent for a well- organized person seeking some summer work experience and getting exposure to government and specifically to work in Community Development. The primary responsibility of this position is to help with data entry and document preparation. The position will also be able to shadow planners and building staff on counter duties, attend meetings and assist staff on planning projects as schedules permit. 

This Summer Intern position is a non-benefit casual position. This casual position work schedule will vary (as needed) between 15-20 hours per week, not to exceed 1,000 hours in a fiscal year.

Serving as a resource and advisor to leadership and staff on DEI matters, they provide guidance on best practices and emerging trends in the field. Overall, the Senior DEI Specialist works to create a work environment where all employees feel valued, respected, and included, ultimately contributing to the agency’s overall success.

Definition
Under direction, provides lead direction and performs the more complex administrative, technical, and specialized functions in the areas of incentives, contracts, business services, finance, budget, and facility management; and performs related work as assigned.

Distinguishing Characteristics
This is the advanced lead level in the Staff Specialist series. Incumbents may provide lead direction and may be assigned to perform the more complex duties. This class is distinguished from the Supervising Staff Specialist in that the latter assigns, supervises, reviews and evaluates the work of assigned staff. This class is distinguished from Staff Specialist I/II, which is at the journey level, and does not typically perform lead work or the most complex duties.

The Office of the City Attorney is committed to providing excellent legal services, consistent with the highest professional and ethical standards, to the City with the goal of protecting and advancing its interests in serving the people of San José. The Office is seeking a motivated individual with the ability to work independently and also in a team environment. This position is responsible for performing legal secretarial duties requiring both sound judgment and good technical skills. This vacancy is specifically for the Field Operations CSO position.

The City of Foster City is looking for a dedicated and responsible individual to join the Police Department as a Senior Community Services Officer. This position requires mature judgement and discretion and is given specialized training. We are seeking highly skilled individuals with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Under general supervision, this position supplements administrative staff and provides support for sworn staff in police operations. There are four main assignment areas for the position, but currently there is only one vacancy in Field Operations.

Field Operations Assignment:
Performs vehicle abatement duties, provides parking enforcement, performs evidence collection and processing in accordance with departmental procedures, prepares police and operational reports. Responds to subpoenas as necessary. Handle a variety of department fleet maintenance and equipment maintenance duties; run errands in support of department operations, and other duties as assigned.

Education and Training Guidelines:
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way would be:

Education:  A high school diploma or equivalent with courses in office administration or specialized job training, with undergraduate college course work, specialized administrative or law enforcement education and/or training. An associate degree is desirable.

Experience:  Two (2) years of full-time experience using computers, telephones, radios and other modern office equipment and programs including preparing, compiling and distributing records, budgets, reports and statistical information. Prior experience in Property/Evidence is desirable.

Licenses and Certifications: Possession of a valid California Class C Driver’s License and a good driving record.

Special Requirements
Ability to provide effective service and technical support; ability to learn all assignments; ability to sit for long periods of time, stoop, squat, lift and carry small boxes, supplies and equipment up to 25 lbs.; ability to remain calm and courteous in stressful situations, possess stamina for high workload periods, high profile projects and tight deadlines; coordinate and communicate with a wide range of people, effectively disseminate information and analyze relevant data; flexibility to work irregular hours and overtime as necessary; handle multiple priorities and respond to urgent requests; provide community service in a polite and courteous manner.

Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed for relevant education, experience, training and other job related qualifications. Based upon a review of employment applications, a limited number of the qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the examination process. 

The process will consist of an Oral Panel Interview. An eligibility list will be established from those who pass the examination process with a score of 70% or higher. Current and future vacancies may be filled from this list. The list will remain in effect for at least one year unless exhausted sooner. 

The department will invite the most qualified candidates from the eligibility list to a final department interview. Applicants selected for a Departmental interview must complete a background investigation which includes a polygraph and fingerprinting. After a conditional job offer, applicants must also complete a psychological examination and pre-employment medical examination.

THE DEPARTMENT

The City of East Palo Alto is seeking qualified candidates for a Building Inspector I/II. Under direct or general supervision, the Building Inspector I/II performs routine to complex inspections at various stages of construction, alterations, and repair of residential, commercial, and industrial building sites to enforce building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and environmental codes, and other governing laws and ordinances. The Building Inspector I/II provides a variety of information to property owners, developers, architects, engineers, and contractors; and performs related duties, as assigned. The Building Inspector II differs from the level I in that is the advanced level classification in the Building Inspector series. Work is normally reviewed upon completion and for overall results. Incumbents also provide lead direction and functional supervision to assigned clerical, technical, and professional staff.
