Description

We have two immediate internships available with the District in the areas of: Water Distribution and Water Treatment. Assignments are for a 40 hour week. Optional work schedules or reduced hours (i.e. part-time) may be considered on a case-by-case basis.  Duration of assignments is for up to six (6) months. Positions operate out of MMWD’s Corte Madera location (Water Distribution) and multiple locations in Marin County (Water Treatment).

The Positions

Distribution System Operator Intern: (1 position) Under the direct supervision of a certified water distribution operator, learn how to operate and maintain mechanical, electrical and control equipment. Perform inspections of mechanical and electrical equipment.  Assist operators in handling consumer calls.  Assist field personnel with confined space entries.  Learn the basics of a potable water distribution system.  Safety Boots required. Work hours are M-F 6:30 am to 3:00 pm.  This position is for up to a six (6) month duration at the Corte Madera location. 

Desired Background: Must be 18 years old or older.

Candidate must have current or recent enrollment in one of the following college level courses of study:

▪ Drinking Water Treatment or Distribution   ▪ Wastewater Treatment   ▪ Environmental Science   ▪ Biology   ▪ Chemistry Candidate should possess genuine interest in a career in the waterworks field. Must be detail oriented, possess good problem solving skills, ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, and the ability to lift 50 pounds.

Water Treatment Plant Intern: (1 position) Under the direct supervision of a qualified and licensed Water Treatment Plant Operator, assist with the operation and maintenance of one of three different drinking water facilities. The candidate will be exposed to surface water treatment plant processes, chemical dosing, industry standard calculations, water quality laboratory tests, the operation and maintenance of analyzers and ground water quality verification. Safety Boots required. Work hours are M – F 7:00am-3:30pm at one of three different facilities: San Geronimo Water Treatment Plant in Woodacre; Bon Tempe Water Treatment Plant in Fairfax; Ignacio Water Quality Station in Novato. Optional work schedules may be considered on a case-by-case basis. This position is for up to a six (6) month duration.

 The City of St. Helena has an exciting opportunity to fill a position in the Public Works Water Treatment Plant.  This is a great opportunity to become part of a team of dedicated individuals that take pride in serving the local community.

Distinguishing Characteristics: The Plant Operator I/II is the entry level or journey level class responsible for a wide variety of plant operations and maintenance of the water treatment plant and related facilities, and incumbents are expected to perform the full scope of assigned duties. The classification is alternatively staffed with Plant Operator III and incumbents may advance to the higher level after gaining experience, obtaining required certifications and demonstrating a level of proficiency that meets the qualifications of the higher level class.

Examples of Duties: (include but are not limited to the following)

• Operates, monitors and maintains all plant equipment and components and related facilities, including but not limited to pumps, chemical feed systems, tanks, plumbing, pump stations, wells, and control systems; reads and interprets meters, gauges and charts; conducts well soundings; performs backwash operations; maintains and upgrades mechanical and electrical systems.
• Conducts regular on-site inspections of plant and system operations making appropriate adjustment to process controls ensuring that operational problems are identified and corrected; ensures that plants are operating within safety standards established by federal, state and local laws, ordinances and regulations.
• Performs basic and skilled water quality laboratory testing and analysis; takes samples on a daily basis to ensure proper plant operation and quality of water; adheres to quality assurance programs for laboratory analysis and instrumentation; prepares and updates reports, including records and logs in compliance with state and federal mandates for reporting.
• Performs maintenance and construction work as directed on the water treatment system and related facilities; maintains plant facilities and grounds in a safe, clean and orderly condition; loads and unloads equipment and materials.

Position Description

We have one full-time, temporary, Field Pipeline Locator internship within the District in the Records Department of the Environmental & Engineering Services Division. Intern Assignments are for a 40 hour week. Duration of this assignment is expected to be up to six (6) months, but can be terminated at any time. Positions operate out of MMWD’s Corte Madera location.

Definition

FIELD PIPELINE LOCATOR INTERN: Under general supervision of the Engineering Support Services Manager, this position locates MMWD underground pipelines and facilities using a Metro Tech 810 DX inductive locator. This includes locating pipes in roadways and on steep slopes, which will require proper safety gear and safety practices. In addition, this work will require the ability to interpret GIS mapping data and record drawings to properly identify the location of the underground water lines. Also, proper communication skills are necessary to report and resolve discrepancies found in the field. Work hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This position is available for up to a six (6) month duration, starting in July/August 2019.

Desired Background: Must be 18 years or older and have a California Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record. Education in the areas of engineering, Geographic Information System (GIS) and/or experience with pipe locator equipment and SAP computer system is desired. Desirable skills include ability to work independently and as a team player; detail oriented. This position performs heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs.) and incumbents must be able to work in various terrains. Must be able to operate a variety of office equipment including, computer, fax, calculator and photocopier. Candidate should have working knowledge of Microsoft Office and ESRI ArcGIS. Safety Boots are required.

NATURAL RESOURCES PROGRAM MANAGER

The Marin Municipal Water District seeks a Natural Resources Program Manager to plan, implement and supervise the District’s watershed natural resource management programs including the vegetation and wildlife management, fishery preservation and enhancement, roads and trails, environmental compliance and environmental stewardship. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of principles, practices and methods of botany, forestry, ecology, wildlife management, natural resources management, hydrology, fisheries, environmental science and soil science and will provide effective leadership and maintain an environment that fosters positive employee engagement, high productivity and effective communication.  The Natural Resources Program Manager will establish and maintain collaborative relationships with both internal and external stakeholders and staff.  This manager will have the responsibility for developing, planning and providing direction to the technical and support staff in all phases of the District’s Vegetation Management Plan, Roads and Trails Plan and other watershed natural resources programs. 

The District:  The District is a medium sized, municipal, water agency with a Board of Directors/General Manager form of government, 240 full time employees and a 105,000,000 combined annual operating and capital budget for FY 2020.  Annually, the District delivers water to 190,000 residents and businesses in the central and southern portions of Marin County and has stewardship responsibilities for 21,000 acres of pristine watershed lands on Mt. Tam.

The Position

The City of San Bruno Community Development Department is recruiting for a Building Inspector I/II, who will have a unique opportunity to help shape and guide the community’s future.  As the City continues to grow in population and develop within the burgeoning San Francisco Bay Area, now is an exciting time to join the San Bruno Community Development Department. Under the guidance of the Chief Building Official, the Building Inspector performs routine to complex inspections for compliance with building codes, issues corrections notices and citations, authors reports of building inspection activity, assists in administering the permitting function for commercial and residential buildings, and performs customer service for the residents of the community. The Building Inspector may also develop educational materials for the public, perform duties of a plan examiner, and represent the City at professional meetings, training sessions and other industry events.  Municipal or jurisdictional building inspection experience is highly desirable for this position.

The Department

The Community Development Department includes Planning, Building, and Code Enforcement. The Department is responsible for ensuring that new development and modifications to existing development in San Bruno are completed in compliance with City and State laws and for supporting the maintenance of safe, attractive neighborhoods and business areas through a progressive code enforcement program.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.   Possession of an AA/AS degree from an accredited college in Building Inspection or Construction Technology highly desirable, plus:

Building Inspector I:

¨ Two (2) years of experience in general construction or related fields or two (2) years of experience in municipal or jurisdictional building inspection experience, or a combination of both.

Building Inspector II:

¨ Five (5) years of experience in the capacity of Building Inspector I.

Special Requirements

Possession of and ability to maintain a valid California driver’s license.

¨ Possession of a minimum of one (1) Legacy International Conference Building Officials (ICBO) or International Code Council (ICC) Certification in Residential Building, Plumbing, Electrical or Mechanical; a combination of certificates preferred.
