Park Ranger I

Summary:
Under general supervision, performs skilled and unskilled maintenance duties and patrol; encourages the safe and effective promotion, protection and utilization of park resources and open-space preserves; and performs other related duties as assigned.

• Interprets and explains park policies, rules and regulations to the public; answers inquiries and complaints concerning park conditions, operations and maintenance.
• Conducts interpretive programs and outdoor activities; describes the natural features of the open- space area to visitors.
• Maintains stream crossings, hiking, biking and equestrian trails utilizing tractors and specialized trail-building equipment.
• Participates in custodial, carpentry, plumbing, maintenance and cleanup of park and open-space   structures and grounds.
• Plans, develops, coordinates and executes work programs and resource management projects.
• Assists in maintaining park water distribution and irrigation systems.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience: A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: an Associate of Science degree with work in natural resources or a closely related field, and one year of experi­ence in trail care, protection of flora and fauna, public facilities care, law enforcement and interpretation; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability:

Math Ability:

The County of Yuba is currently recruiting for the position of a Limited Term Project Manager in the Administrative Services Department, with a focus on the scheduled Library Renovation. This limited term appointment is set to end in June 2025. 

The incumbent will plan, direct and coordinate activities concerned with the implementation or administration of a project; participate in the conceptual development of a project and oversee its organization, scheduling, budgeting, and implementation; coordinate project activities or functions with other County staff, associated agencies, and contractors as appropriate; may direct, review and evaluate the work of assigned staff. This is a broad classification managing mid- to large-scale projects that are largely of an analytical, programmatic and/or financial nature.  

This is the management level in the project management series. 

About Administrative Services:

The Administrative Services Department provides logistical and resource support to all County departments. We are the primary provider of Custodial Services, Fleet Services, Capital Improvement Planning and Acquisition and Facilities Maintenance. We provide purchasing guidance and serve as Purchasing Agent for County procurement needs as well as assist vendors interested in doing business with the County.

Examples of Duties:

• Participate in and supervise the design, implementation, integration and/or installation required for the project assigned; schedule the project timeline in logical steps and budget the appropriate amount of time required to meet deadlines.
• Coordinate, conduct and review a variety of complex analytical and support activities, including policy and procedure development and implementation; assist in the development and implementation of project goals, objectives, procedures and work standards.
• Prepare and submit budget estimates, progress reports or cost tracking reports.

DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:
The City of San José Housing Department is a leader in the development of affordable housing. Its mission is to strengthen and to revitalize our community through housing and neighborhood investment. The Housing Department provides loans for the development of affordable housing and manages a portfolio of over 17,000 housing units with a total value that exceeds $700 million. Over the next five years, the City Council has a goal of creating 25,000 housing units, 10,000 of which will be affordable. The Housing Department has an operating budget of approximately $19 million and 110 employees. The Development Officer will be assigned to the Multifamily Project Development Program and will manage all phases of affordable housing lending. The position will oversee activities and programs within the Affordable Housing Production Division. The Development Officer reports to a Senior Development Officer. This is the entry-level classification in the Park Ranger series responsible for performing a variety of routine maintenance for District parks and open space areas and facilities.  Incumbents at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies.  Work is reviewed upon completion for soundness, appropriateness, and conformity to policy and requirements.  This class is distinguished from the Park Ranger in that the latter provides enforcement of land use laws and regulations and serves as a Peace Officer under the California Penal Code.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Management reserves the right to add, modify, change, or rescind the work assignments of different positions and to make reasonable accommodations so that qualified employees can perform the essential functions of the job.

1. Performs a variety of support duties for District parks and open space areas and facilities, including, but not limited to, assisting Park Rangers, visitor services, interpretation services, and camp services.  
2. Ensures facilities are available for use and consistently maintained in a safe and clean condition.
3. Patrols park, open space, and recreation areas; reports problems regarding safety and sanitary conditions.
4. Staffs kiosks, entry stations, and visitor centers; greets and welcomes park visitors; collects fees.
5. Implements, monitors, and enforces relevant laws, rules, policies, and procedures; cautions patrons regarding unsafe activities and reports incidents to Park Ranger as needed.
6. Provides information to patrons pertaining to park use, local natural and cultural history, points of interest, and recreation opportunities; answers inquiries and gives directions.
7. Receives and responds to questions, concerns, and complaints from patrons; determines issues and resolves or refers to Park Ranger or Chief Ranger as needed.
8. Performs custodial tasks.
9. Assists with preparing marketing and educational material; may assist with program delivery.
10. Assists in emergencies involving injury, illness, fire, hazardous water conditions, or other critical incidences by notifying proper authorities; provides first aid/medical care to the level of training.
11. Inspects facilities and grounds for safety and security; identifies and reports hazardous conditions and facility maintenance needs to supervisor.
12. Follows safe working practices and makes appropriate use of related safety equipment as required.
13. Performs administrative tasks, such as attending meetings and training, preparing reports, monitoring expenditures, and maintaining records.
14. Assists with District special events as needed.
15. Performs related duties as assigned.

 
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or GED;
  AND
• Six months of relevant work experience.
  OR
• Any combination of training, education, and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. 

 
Knowledge of:

• Methods and techniques used in the operation, repair, and maintenance of park and open space areas and facilities.
• Operational characteristics of a variety of tools and equipment.
• Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
• Basic wildlife, vegetation, and geographic features found in District parks.
• Relevant natural and cultural history.
• Outdoor recreation skills related to camping, biking, hiking, and horseback riding. 
• Principles and practices of recordkeeping.
• Principles and practices for providing high level of customer service.
• Modern office practices, methods, and computer equipment and applications.

 
Ability to:

• Perform general maintenance duties.

Licenses and Certifications:

• At time of appointment, California Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record maintained throughout employment.

 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must possess:  mobility to work in various parks and open space areas; strength, stamina, and mobility to perform medium to heavy physical work, to work around machines, to climb and descend ladders, to operate a variety of tools and equipment, and to operate a motor vehicle; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen and to distinguish colors in wiring; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio.  Frequent walking in operational areas to identify problems or hazards.  Finger dexterity needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard and/or calculator and to operate tools and equipment.  Incumbents in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and inspect work sites.  Incumbents must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 50 pounds or heavier weights with assistance and/or the use of proper equipment.
 
ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS
Incumbents work in both indoor and outdoor environments with moderate to loud noise levels.  May work in controlled temperature conditions, cold and hot temperatures, or inclement weather conditions.  Exposure to a variety of plant and animal species.  Incumbents will interact with individuals in interpreting and enforcing rules, policies, and procedures.
 
WORKING CONDITIONS
Incumbents may be assigned an on-call and irregular work schedule, including weekends, early mornings, evenings, and holidays.

The City of Berkeley is seeking a Housing Development Specialist (Community Development Project Coordinator)! In this role you will have the opportunity to be part of the team responsible for implementing the City’s Housing Trust Fund and Small Sites Programs. This position will work on renovations and new construction projects, the latter of which will include developments at the North Berkeley and Ashby BART sites. You'll work closely with nonprofit developers to underwrite project proposals, recommend funding, negotiate loan and regulatory agreements, and monitor project progress. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college with major coursework in business, planning, or public administration or a closely related field and four (4) years of professional project management experience in community development, such as housing, economic development, public works, or planning. Lead and/or supervisory experience is desirable.

A master's degree in a related program is desirable and can be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.

Must be able to attend evening meetings. A valid California driver's license is desirable.
