DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Sanitary Engineer performs a variety of professional sanitary engineering assignments of moderate difficult at the San José-Santa Clara Regional Wastewater Facility.

Annual base salary range for Sanitary Engineer: $86,507.20- $109,512.00

The actual salary shall be determined by the final candidate’s qualifications and experience.  In addition to the starting salary, employees in the Sanitary Engineer classification series shall also receive an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation pay. 

About the Division
The CIP division is responsible for planning and implementing capital long term capital improvement projects at the Regional Wastewater Facility (RWF). The RWF is an advanced wastewater treatment plan that serves approximately 1.4 million residents over a 300 square mile service area. The ESD CIP division is currently comprised of 53 full-time positions that perform program administration, budget planning, project delivery, and process engineering services. The division is also supported by a co-located team of consultant staff and staff from the Department of Public Works who provide program management and construction management services, respectively. This integrated team is responsible for delivering a 10-year capital improvement program estimated at $1.4 billion. The RWF CIP is an exciting opportunity that stands among one of the largest construction programs in the South Bay.

The Capital Improvement Program (CIP) is currently recruiting for multiple Sanitary Engineer positions located at the San Jose/Santa Clara Regional Wastewater Facility (RWF).  The incumbent in this position will be supervised by an Associate or Senior Engineer. The Sanitary Engineer will provide engineering and technical assistance in the development and delivery of wastewater capital improvement projects.

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:

• Research and evaluate wastewater technology and equipment, and make selection recommendations based on sound engineering analysis
• Assist in the preparation of project bid packages (i.e. plans & specifications) and coordination of contractors’ bid processes.
• Evaluate, prepare, and/or coordinate responses to Requests for Information (RFI) and bid protests in a timely manner.
• Preparing technical reports, documentations and memoranda.
• Reviewing design guidelines and evaluate their relevance to new design projects.
• Schedule, organize, prepare, and distribute meeting agendas, minutes, and/or presentation materials for meetings as assigned
• Provide technical support during construction phase (i.e. review, prepare and coordinate responses to design related submittals, design change memos (DCM), RFIs and Potential Change Orders (PCO))
• -Negotiating, preparing, and managing consultant agreements and/or construction contracts.
• Review and keep track of consultant invoices and Monthly Progress Reports
• Participating in commissioning, post-construction process testing, and performance reviews.
• Providing technical assistance to the RWF operations and maintenance
• Managing workgroups and leading other staff in conducting field studies.

ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy is recruiting for a versatile Facilities Maintenance Specialist that is knowledgeable and experienced in a diverse set of technical trades.  
 
Under direct supervision of the Facilities Superintendent, the Facilities Maintenance Specialist performs a variety of semi-skilled construction and/or repair work related to electrical wiring, plumbing installations, carpentry work, HVAC, and much more. In this position you must be proficient with basic tools and equipment, and have the capability to diagnose mechanical problems and methodically troubleshoot any issues occurring with building systems, machines, and equipment. Project managements skills and appropriately prioritizing your work is imperative to succeed in this position. Additionally, the Facilities Maintenance Specialist must possess excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing, along with a friendly and outgoing demeanor to provide quality customer service. Furthermore, this person must be able to confidently work well under minimal supervision.

The Facilities Unit is a small energetic group with a strong sense of cohesion and team success. Our team takes pride in performing preventative maintenance of all buildings, including City Hall, the Police Department, Fire Stations, Corporation Yard, and many other City facilities. Whatever obstacles are encountered, our team collaborates to go above and beyond to ensure all service requests are completed including last minute emergencies that require immediate attention. The Position

The primary job responsibility of the Public Works Maintenance Worker I is to join our team of field employees who work daily to maintain, repair, and construct the physical systems that serve the community, including parks, recreation equipment, streets, traffic signals, landscaped areas, sewer & storm drain collection systems, and other public facilities. We’re looking for creative problem-solvers to perform high-quality skilled work with a variety of tools and equipment types under the direction and guidance of more experienced lead workers and managers in both individual and team projects.

Essential Job Functions

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

• Performs a variety of maintenance and repair work on various City facilities and structures including streets, landscaped areas, recreation facilities, sewer, storm drains, traffic signals, and other public facilities.
• Operates construction and maintenance equipment and power tools such as a dump truck, front-end loader, backhoe, tractor, overlay machine, jetter, compressor, jackhammer, paint sprayer, and concrete saw; maintains hand tools and assigned equipment; performs preventive maintenance on equipment.
• Conducts traffic control when working in high traffic areas of the City; installs street barricades and cones prior to the performance of maintenance or repair activities; directs and controls traffic around work sites.
• Performs various street maintenance functions; identifies and repairs pot hole areas; repairs or replaces cracked, raised, sunken, or otherwise damaged sidewalks, curbs and gutters; removes any roadway hazards; identifies all areas needing striping and/or painting; maintain, clean, and repair collection systems.
• Maintains, installs, and repairs traffic signal systems; maintain and repair street lighting systems, program controllers.
• Prepares, installs, repairs, and replaces City sign posts and signs; cleans and maintains existing signs; trims vegetation that presents safety hazards, clears walkways of trash and debris; removes graffiti.
• Maintains assessment districts and landscaped areas including parkways, open space areas, and medians; performs weed abatement and pesticide applications; installs and maintains irrigation systems to ensure proper operating efficiency; maintains, trims, and removes trees.
• Utilizes proper safety precautions related to all work performed.
• Clears, maintains, and disposes of trash in public areas; oversees the work of contract staff; performs special projects as required.
• Provides courteous customer service; responds to questions and inquiries from the general public regarding various maintenance projects; resolves customer problems or complaints.

The Senior Executive Analyst (SEA) is a manager level classification and plays a critical role in developing Analysts and guiding them with their assignments.  The SEA position is distinguished from a Budget Analyst position primarily by the scope and complexity of their assignments, the supervisory role they play, and the ability to independently perform their work.
