City of Brisbane is seeking dynamic students for our Summer College Internships
For the City Clerk Intern, you will be working for the City Clerk. For this position, you will be assisting in project oversight of our records management project, creating innovative best practices to implement the records retention schedule and policy, and supporting the daily records management tasks in the City Clerk’s Office.
General Internship Program Information:
The City of Brisbane will be sponsoring up to five summer internships this year. Our internships are project-oriented and designed to give college students a good general overview of future employment opportunities and current issues in the Public Sector. You will have the opportunity for exposure to various areas of City Administration during your internship, as well as have opportunities to network with fellow interns and participate in professional development activities in San Mateo County and/or Santa Clara County.
Projects for 2021 include:
- Communications – Assist with developing innovative and relevant content for posting on all City-administered social media sites, organize the digital media library, and research and recommend tools used in managing data and performance of social media posts and campaigns.
- Records Management – Assist in project oversight of our records management project, create innovative best practices to implement the records retention schedule and policy, and support the daily records management tasks in the City Clerk’s Office.
- Public Works (Streets) – Provide support to the City’s Public Works Department in managing the transportation network. Assist staff in the tracking and management of infrastructure assets (streetlights, traffic signs, etc.), design and construction of capital streets projects, and public outreach through social media and citizen advisory committees
- Public Works (Utilities) – Provide support to the City’s public utilities including the drinking water, sanitary and storm drain infrastructure systems. Assignments will focus primarily on federal and state regulatory programs including infrastructure risk & resilience assessment, water supply restrictions and drinking water quality compliance measures.
- Community Development – Provide support to the Planning staff with the Housing Element Update and affordable housing policy development and administration. Specific tasks will include data collection related to the City's inventory of deed-restricted housing and outstanding loans/grants associated with affordable housing programs and assisting staff in managing consultant preparation of an affordable housing strategic plan and housing element update. Other planning projects may be assigned as needed.
Applicants must be college students currently enrolled in and pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree at an accredited college or university in a related field (e.g., public administration, public policy, business, planning, library science, environmental studies, engineering, sustainability). Undergraduate candidates must have a minimum 48 semester units or equivalent completed. Applicants should also be self-motivated, have excellent interpersonal skills, able to use Microsoft Office software, demonstrate good research ability and have the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
SALARY AND HOURS: Salary range for Interns starts at $15.00 per hour, 25-28 hours per week over a 12-week period. Start date is flexible depending on student’s availability.

SELECTION PROCESS:
The applications will be screened and a limited number of applicants possessing the most relevant qualifications will be selected to participate in an oral interview. Recommendations for appointment to the positions will be based on the results of these interviews. Prior to appointment, fingerprinting for submission to the Department of Justice must be completed with favorable results.
