The San José Fire Department's (SJFD) core mission is to serve the community by protecting life, property, and the environment through prevention and response. SJFD is a high-volume, all-hazards fire department providing fire suppression and rescue services that protects approximately 200 square miles, Advanced Life Support and Basic Life Support services as well as specialized operations including Urban Search and Rescue, Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting, and a Hazardous Material Unit with a Decontamination Unit. This is the trainee level class in the Firefighter series, responsible for becoming proficient in the understanding of lifesaving and firefighting methods within the SJFD. Through a specific program comprised of general and specialized education, focused training including extensive hands-on experience, Firefighter Recruits will learn diverse tasks, policies, procedures and standards within the SJFD. Incumbents will learn techniques in emergency medical services, rescue work, firefighting and other emergency services. Duties may involve considerable physical exertion and potential risk to health and safety. Work is rigidly structured, highly supervised, and incumbents are continuously evaluated and receive feedback regularly. Firefighter Recruits must graduate from the Academy and be appointed to the class of Firefighter in order to retain employment in the job series.

The Security Manager plays a pivotal role in overseeing and coordinating organization-wide security services at Valley Water. Reporting to the Assistant Officer of Emergency, Security & Safety, this mid-management position is responsible for planning, managing, and executing strategic security initiatives to protect Valley Water's infrastructure, assets and staff, and the community. The Security Manager provides expert guidance, formulates policies, and fosters partnerships with local, county, state, and federal agencies to ensure the highest level of security preparedness. The Security Manager is entrusted with the strategic development and implementation of security programs, plans, and processes. This role requires extensive professional expertise, strong leadership skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
 
 Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Plans, manages, and oversees all functions, operations, and activities of the security unit, including contract security services, physical security systems and technologies, un-housed abatement, shooter awareness program, threat and vulnerability assessments and communication protocols.
• Develops programs, strategies, and solutions for security to ensure effective planning for accomplishment of organizational objectives, safety and security for employees, the community and Valley Water’s infrastructure and assets, including water supply and distribution systems, and compliance with all applicable policies, regulations, rules, and laws.
• Develops, implements and manages strategic vulnerability and threat assessments and mitigation plans to protect water supplies, distributions systems and all District facilities from including acts of terrorism; performs vulnerability studies and analysis of disaster and security response capabilities, including Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), Risk Assessment Methodology for Water Utilities (RAM-W) and Dam Assessment Matrix for Security and Vulnerability Risk (DAMSVR) assessments; assesses and determines appropriate level of security needs. 
• Leads efforts to explore new tools and technologies to improve existing physical security and add security assets to new facilities and property.
• Works collaboratively and engages with appropriate social service and law enforcement agencies to address un-housed abatement in Valley Water creeks and other properties; fulfills security requests to support field work.
• Administers contracts for security and security related services; reviews and evaluates compliance of contractor services with Valley Water’s contract standards and provisions; recommends improvements as required in procedures, techniques, and training.
• Provides staff leadership, oversight, guidance, and daily management of assigned unit; develops and implements goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for assigned programs; manages budgets and forecasts resource needs.
• Plans, directs, coordinates, and reviews the work of assigned staff; provides staff and performance reviews and implements discipline measures and manages the Security Office on-call program.
• Oversees, makes recommendations for, and approves the acquisition of security system hardware and software purchases. 
• Develops and delivers effective communication and training programs and activities, such as the Active Shooter Awareness program, to promote security and emergency awareness and preparedness for Valley Water staff, contractors, and the community.  
• Establishes ongoing relationships with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, including the Northern California Regional Intelligence Center (NCRIC); monitors notifications of intelligence, information and alerts from the Office of Homeland Security, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Energy, Department of Transportation, U.S. Bureau of Reclamation and the Awareness National Security Intelligence Reports, as well as the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies and American Water Works Association.

The City of Patterson is recruiting for a Fire Prevention Inspector.  This position performs fire inspection and fire prevention activities; enforces fire codes, laws and regulations related to fire protection, prevention and safety;  inspects new and existing buildings and a variety of structures, sprinkler systems and alarm systems; conducts plan and specification reviews to ensure compliance with fire codes; enforces the City and Fire District's weed abatement ordinance; develops and administers the Department’s public fire safety education programs and public relations programs; investigates routine complaints of fire/life safety hazards; establishes and maintains a variety of records and files on program activities; conducts research and writes a variety of reports; and performs related duties as required.

Summary Description

Under the administrative direction of the Public Works Director, assists in planning, directing, and organizing the activities and operations of the Water, Wastewater, Streets, Parks, Facilities and Fleet Divisions of the Public Works Department. Specifically responsible for providing leadership, management and administration of highly complex technical, financial, statistical and analytical work of the Department. Representative Duties

Education and Experience Guidelines - Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education/Training:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering, urban studies, public administration, physical or natural sciences, or a related fields. A Master’s degree is highly desirable.

Experience:

Four years of increasingly responsible professional experience with a public agency in engineering, planning, public administration, or closely related field including two years of administrative and supervisory responsibility.

License or Certificate:

The City of Patterson is recruiting for a Firefighter Paramedic.  This safety position will respond to fire alarms, emergency medical calls, traffic accidents, rescue and other emergency calls to protect life and property.  This position will also participate in trainings, drills, study activities and in the maintenance of the department apparatus, equipment, and facilities.  Under the supervision of the Fire Engineer or Fire Captain, performs ALS care to patients of medical emergencies and other medical procedures. The incumbent is expected to perform the full scope of duties. This classification is distinguished from the higher classification of Director in that the latter is responsible for the overall management and supervision of the Department. FLSA status – exempt.
