Mechanics at all levels perform maintenance and repair services on heavy/light City vehicles/equipment, such as fire trucks, automobiles, construction equipment, street sweepers, lawn mowers, stationary generators; and perform other duties as assigned.

The Mechanic is a journey level classification in the Mechanic series. The Mechanic performs a range of skilled tasks requiring journey level mechanical ability and aptitude. Work assignments are performed according to established rules and procedures.

The Senior Mechanic is an advanced journey and lead level position classification in the Mechanic series and may be distinguished from those in the Mechanic class by the broader range of responsibilities and leading a crew. Senior Mechanics provide lead direction and training to section staff.

Under general supervision of the Inspection and Neighborhood Preservation Manager, the Neighborhood Preservation Officer seeks public compliance with Municipal Code sections, ordinances, and resolutions in such areas as planning, zoning, signs, community nuisance, business license, and related areas; and performs other duties as assigned. The incumbent will have a broad range of knowledge and independence within general parameters in the application of field investigations, evidence collection and violation resolution in the enforcement of municipal regulatory processes.

Examples of Duties Include:

• Investigates reported violations of municipal codes, ordinances, and resolutions
• Seeks abatement of violations through education and voluntary compliance or through direct enforcement activities including the issuance of infraction citations
• Educates the public regarding requirements
• Conducts field inspections to verify violations; and gathers supporting evidence
• Prepares reports regarding violations
• Prepares and gives presentations for Administrative Hearings, Planning Commission, City Council or courts of law

 As a Park Services Officer Aide, you will:  

• Drive to different park locations and assist in the daily operations and maintenance of park facilities and grounds.

The Ideal Candidate

Basic knowledge of park operations and maintenance is a plus but not required.

Work Schedule: This is a 20-24 hours per week position. The regular work schedule is Thursday and Friday; weekend work may be occasionally required. This position is limited to up to 1000 hours per year. However, employment might end sooner, depending on the needs of the hiring department. Extra-help positions are paid hourly and are not guaranteed permanent status at the end of the extra-help assignment. 

Essential Responsibilities
Essential responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Actively engage with the public to provide excellent customer service, anticipate customer needs and deliver services in a timely and respectful manner.
• Patrols parks or trails and other public recreational area.
• Provide information and direct visitors to appropriate park areas.
• Develop and participate in interpretive programs.
• Report unsafe conditions, incidents of vandalism, and other related conditions.
• Interpret and apply oral or written material/instructions.
• Prepare reports and maintain records of activities; may make recommendations on relevant subjects such as modifications to equipment or facilities to reduce vandalism or improve safety.
• Tactfully and effectively enforce rules and regulations governing facilities. Issue warnings and code citations, directs traffic, enforce park rules as necessary.
• Assist ill or injured park visitors until proper medical aid arrives.
• Operate a motor vehicle or motorized maintenance equipment.
• Conduct light maintenance activities (e.g., repairing, making and installing signs, fences, etc.).
• Perform watering, weeding, pesticide applications, pruning, trash control and perform minor repairs and custodial maintenance.
• Operate light motorized equipment including, but not limited to, pick-up trucks, dump trucks, power mowers, sprayers and tractors. 
• May occasionally operate heavier and more complex equipment.
• Ensure compliance with park rules, codes and ordinances.
• Work weekends, holidays, or other irregular hours.
• May direct the work of other employees on an intermittent or project basis.

Required Education, Experience and Training

The department is seeking to fill one (1) full-time Power Resources Specialist I/II position to support the Regulatory Compliance and Policy Division.

The ideal candidate is a skilled and highly motivated individual, with creative problem-solving skills, the ability to learn quickly, and the desire to work both independently and collaboratively. Good judgment, initiative, and cooperation with other staff and outside stakeholders are assets to this position. Under general direction of the Deputy Director, this position will be responsible for supporting the division's engagement in state regulatory affairs to protect and advance San José policy, business, and community interests.

Typical duties of this position may include, but are not limited to:

• Monitor, review, interpret, and explain to a variety of audiences regulatory proposals and other policy issues with an eye toward impact on SJCE and its customers.
• Respond to compliance and data requests by gathering relevant data, drafting reports, and receiving approvals within designated timeframes.
• Support the preparation of comments, position papers, testimony, and the like related to a variety of technical regulatory proceedings impacting SJCE energy procurement, energy management, and electric rates.
• Work independently and with stakeholders to influence state policy.
• Build and maintain stakeholder relationships including non-profit, business, and government entities, and where appropriate build regional and statewide coalitions to support the interests of the department.

DEFINITION

Under general supervision, the Plant Operator II during an assigned shift is responsible for operation of the wastewater treatment plant and for maintaining a variety of machinery and equipment.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Monitors the operation of the wastewater treatment plant; operates treatment facility equipment such as settling tanks, pumps, activated sludge process, digesters, centrifuge, chlorinators and valves to control flow and processing of wastewater sludge and effluent; monitors gauges, dials, meters and control panels, and other recording instruments, interpreting results to determine processing requirements, and records data; oils, greases, and cleans equipment; services and maintains a variety of plant equipment; extracts samples and performs laboratory tests and analysis; inspects plant equipment and facilities to locate and report needed repairs; performs general plant maintenance work, such as sweeping, cleaning, sanding, and painting; performs general grounds maintenance work; maintains routine and daily records and shift logs; assists in the training of other plant operators, makes operating decisions in the absence of supervisory personnel; may have to work under adverse conditions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of: The operation and routine maintenance of mechanical equipment, including pumps and electrical motors; control procedures for wastewater treatment processes; tools, equipment and methods used in the overhaul, repair, adjustment and modification of stationary power equipment, and of the pumping, piping, and electrical systems used in the water quality control plant; sewage treatment processes and the laboratory tests used to check the effectiveness of such processes.

Ability to: Operate equipment used in a water quality control plant, make standard laboratory tests of sewage, receiving waters and sludge and interpret such tests; read and interpret gauges and recording devices reflecting plant operations; adjust treatment processes as indicated by plant conditions; perform mechanical repairs, maintenance work, and modification to equipment used in a water quality control plant; use various mechanic's tools with skill and accuracy; adapt to day, swing or graveyard work shift; follow oral and written directions; perform heavy manual labor involving lifting, carrying, kneeling, crawling and climbing; work in adverse conditions which require exposure to noise, noxious smells, gases, contact with wastewater, and risk of bodily injury; interact positively and cooperate with co-workers, respond politely to customers, work as a team member, function under demanding time pressure, respond in a positive manner to supervision, and attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis.

About Happy Hollow Park & Zoo (HHPZ): This is a 16-acre amusement park and Association of Zoo's & Aquariums (AZA) accredited zoo located in San José, California. HHPZ is open year-round catering to families with children. It operates nine amusement park rides, showcases various endangered species, and operates one of the oldest classical puppet theaters in California, as well as offering many other playgrounds and attractions emphasizing play and imagination in a natural conservation setting.

About Zookeeper Full Time/Part Time: The position performs work involving the care and feeding of zoo, domestic farm, and/or non-domestic animals and maintenance of enclosures, grounds and service areas; working with animals under all types of climatic conditions to prepare them for presentations, training, capture and restraint, basic husbandry, and behavioral enrichment. In addition, responding to general questions from the public regarding non-domestic and/or domestic animals.

Please note that schedules can vary every week or be on an "on call" basis depending on knowledge, training, and experience with specific animal routines. These positions will be required to work weekends, evenings, and holidays, during all climactic conditions as assigned and must have the ability to enter animal areas and perform physical work (including lifting objects up to 50 lbs.).
